More Luger Flair Goodness

Scott,

Just watched Halloween Havoc 89, on the network. The thing that stood out to the me most was how over Lex was as a heel, and how he could more than handle his end of a match as evidenced by the series of good matches he had throughout 89. I'd argue that this was his peak in the business. Why not have him go over Flair at Starrcade while Sting blows off his feud with Muta. They then could build toward Sting vs Luger and hold off on the Flair turn so that Sting has a credible challenger once he gets the strap as opposed to the Black Scorpion. Seems like this would make both guys in the process. Thoughts?

I'm sure they would have loved that because they spent the better part of 1990 trying to get Flair to do a job to Luger, but Flair wanted to put Sting over, period.  It seemed like the right call at the time, but in hindsight I actually think that Flair should have just made Luger because Sting was a huge flop and Luger at least was a strong heel, as noted.

BoD goodness

Scott, working a 16 hour ER shift and have so far gotten punched in the stomach by a girl on bath salts (cheap street methamphetamines) and had to examine a person who just shot themselves, ah the joys of being an ER doc.  Mentally checked out so decided to hang with my buddy, the BoD.

Just read the recent post about a Cena heel turn and it got me thinking about major wrestling events, if smart fans saw them coming, and what was leaked prior to the event.  Could you give some info on what the smarts were saying before the following events…

– Stone Colds WM X-7 turn
– Hogans WM 9 return
– Vince as higher power
– UT beating HBK into retirement
– Waltman returning to join DX
– Rocks Survivor Series 98 turn
– Rocks WM 27 return

Hang on, the bath salts story sounds way more interesting than this crap.  I'm hardly ever punched by meth addicts at work.
Anyway, on with the list:
– Austin's turn was pretty well known from Royal Rumble 2001, and as longtime readers can tell you, I was openly predicting it at the time.
– Hogan's return:  Wasn't quite online at that time so I couldn't say.
– Everyone knew Vince was going to be the Higher Power, but we just didn't want to admit it.
– HBK's retirement was pretty much known months in advance.  Not a secret at all.
– X-Pac's return was a HUGE shock, although it was known that he had been fired from WCW, but people assumed that the previous split was so acrimonious that it was unlikely Vince would work with him again.  Guess we were wrong.
– Everyone knew it was going to happen.  Rock never had a real babyface turn in the first place, so it was just a matter of time.
– Wasn't watching the product at the time of Rock's return.

More Sporcle-y Goodness

Scott,
as an early Sporcle adopter, I thought you might like my first stab at one – basically, who are the most overworked wrestlers in WWF/E history? We’re looking for anyone who wrestled more than 200 matches in one calendar year, since 1980. A lot of what you’d expect, but I was surprised at #1. No one’s done it in over a decade, incidentally.
Enjoy the quiz, and a plug wouldn’t hurt none, either. http://www.sporcle.com/games/seancollier/most-wwf-matches-in-a-year

I don’t know about the numbers, since a lot of guys lied, but if people are actually going through and counting matches and such, good on them.  I ended up with 31/58, and I only got #1 because I was guessing at people who I knew were around at the time.  Otherwise I would have been totally shocked by it as well.
