The SmarK Rant for WCW Saturday Night – 02.13.93

Oh man, Gamestop sent me a SPECIAL BIRTHDAY COUPON for 20% off a used game!  If I buy another used game.  Don’t be jealous of how special I am.  I’m gonna run right out and take advantage of that awesome deal, don’t you worry.  I don’t even know how they stay in business when they’re practically giving away money like that!

Taped from Atlanta, GA, as we begin the post-Watts era for the company.

Your hosts are Jim Ross & Larry Zbyszko

So this is a special request from a Patreon subscriber, and if you too would like the ability to influence my ranting decisions by requesting something, head on over to the PATREON OF DOOM at www.patreon.com/blogofdoom and see if it’s something that interests you.  I actually posted the Summerslam 91 redo a few days early for Patrons, and you get instant access to the Rant Archives as a part of the Montreal Tier.

To be honest I might just carry on from here anyway because 92 is a slog under Bill Watts and this way we get to the Bischoff era right away.  In fact this is the last show under Bill Watts, as he resigns from the company on 02/10 and Bischoff replaces him.

The SmarK Rant for WCW Saturday Night – 07.25.92

I know I’ve been posting these on Saturdays but what can I say, I’m like a moth to a flame with this show.  I like me some classic WCW.  Also, July 18 is missing for some reason.  There was definitely a show that week so I guess it’s just the usual WWE Network wackiness.  It even had a cool angle where Steve Austin was supposed to defend against Ricky Steamboat, but Steamboat was injured and Larry Zbyszko took his place.  So Austin beats Larry and he’s like “Well, that was Steamboat’s title shot wasted, so now he can’t challenge for it anymore!”

I really enjoyed last week’s show so let’s carry on.  Also, I know no one would possibly notice, but this one and last week’s show were both posted on Saturday morning at 6:05 CST.

Your hosts are Jim Ross & Riki Rachtman.  Apparently he was an MTV VJ, but I had no exposure to him because we only got MuchMusic in Canada at the time.  He does have some impressive Nuno Bettencourt / Gary Cherone style big hair, though.

Bonus Repost: The SmarK Rant for WCW Saturday Night – 05.15.94

(Continuing on with the Flair-Steamboat theme this weekend, here’s one of their last matches together, the rematch from Spring Stampede 94, which I reviewed on WWE 24/7 shortly after the amazing Flair DVD set came out!)

The SmarK 24/7 Rant for WCW Saturday Night – May 15 1994

– Man, this channel is crazy sometimes.  After the last Flair DVD came out, people were like “Why put the Spring Stampede match on there when there’s a much better one from TV a month later?”  Well, apparently that’s what 24/7 is for.
