The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 09.01.97
OK, I’ve got a couple of hours free here on my vacation, so time to finally get this one done and hopefully wrap up 1997 Nitro before the permanent switch to 3 hours.
When we last left off… https://blogofdoom.com/index.php/2019/02/27/the-smark-rant-for-wcw-monday-nitro-08-25-97/
We start with a nice tribute to the career of Arn Anderson and a recap of the history of the Four Horsemen.
–Eric Bischoff, Steve McMichael (with his dog Pepe), and Bobby Heenan are doing commentary and they are live from Miami, Florida. Bischoff announces that Vader is AWOL because he has “not filed proper documents” so now Hulk Hogan’s team is one man down going into Fall Brawl.

Here’s another one I’ve been waiting for a while to roll around!
Live from Columbia, SC, drawing yet another record-breaking gate of 8058, an all-time record for the city. It just goes to show how inept the promotion for the Clash was, because that show only did about 4000 people during this hot streak where they were selling out arenas with ease week after week.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 08.18.97
OK, back to this for a bit. Oddly enough, they dumped a huge run of WWF Confidential onto the Network. I’m interested to check it out again because I only remember the episode with the Lex Luger 911 call and the debut with Steve Austin. Probably not something I can really rant on, though.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 08.11.97
It’s the night after Road Wild! Also Lord Steven Regal apparently got drunk and pissed on a stewardess and won’t be on the show. That’s how you know it’s time for rehab. Also, Syxx was briefly fired for violating the various Standards & Practices rules (vis-a-vis pointing to his crotch all the time) but the Outsiders threatened to quit and Bischoff backed down. For now.
Live from Denver, CO, drawing 7444.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 08.04.97
Live from Detroit, MI, and this is a big one. It’s Nitro #100!
Your hosts are Tony, Mike & Larry.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 07.28.97
I mean, just reading the description for this show sounds completely batshit insane. I’m pretty pumped.
As noted, based on my work and travel schedule leading up to Christmas, this might be the last new thing I can get out for a few days, but I’ll try to squeeze in another episode of Heat or something for tomorrow before I wrap it up.
Live from Charleston, WV, and back on Mondays, drawing a record gate of 9575 for the city.
Your hosts are Tony, Larry and Mike.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 07.22.97
Strangely, this is TUESDAY Nitro for whatever scheduling reasons.
Live from Jacksonville, FL, drawing a sellout of 7465.
Your hosts are Tony, Larry and Iron Mike.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 07.14.97
Back to the Monday Night Wars!
Live from Orlando, FL, drawing 10,000, complete with Michael Buffer doing the introduction of the show.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 07.07.97
Last week! Curt Hennig made a shocking debut in WCW, where he wandered out at the end of the show and did nothing! It was the SHOCKER OF ALL SHOCKERS according to Tony. SMELL THE RATINGS!
Live from Memphis, TN, drawing 7800. So crazy to have anyone else running the Mid-South Coliseum.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 06.30.97
Live from LAS VEGAS, after weeks of buildup, drawing 8239.
It’s another big show in a series of them, with big stuff going down tonight.
Not as big as RAW last night, of course, but pretty big stuff.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 06.23.97
Last week: Dennis Rodman showed up and the show ended with giant amounts of garbage littering the ring.
Live from Macon, GA, drawing another company record for the city with 7000 people.
The SmarK Rant for WCW Monday Nitro – 06.16.97
LAST NIGHT! The Great American Bash happened, and nothing much came of it. Randy Savage and DDP had a hell of a main event match, Flair and Piper broke up, and there was a whole lot of nothing in the midcard.
Live from Chicago, IL, drawing 16,500, which actually fell short of a sellout and juuuuuuuuuust missed the all-time gate record that they set last week. Well, put a nail in the company now.
Your hosts are Tony & Larry & Mike
