The SmarK Rant for Mid-South Wrestling – 10.05.85

The SmarK Rant for Mid-South Wrestling – 10.05.85

OK, time for a cooldown rant, like the women’s battle royale after the cage match at All Out, because the blog was NUTS on Sunday and Monday and frankly my bank account needs a break from all the money that Tony Khan was pumping into it.  Not only that, but I always insist on getting paid with the giant novelty cheques like Happy Gilmore and those things are a bitch to store.  And since I’m fresh out of AWA to review, it’s back to Bill Watts!

Yes, it’s a BONUS RANT, as usually I don’t do a Thursday morning posting on Dynamite days, but I’m on vacation and since we’re basically under stay at home orders, I got nothing else to do with my time but catch up on wrestling. I also reviewed the Yokozuna documentary for Inside the Ropes magazine and that’ll be out a couple of months from now as well.  So Wednesday was a productive day!

Repost: The SmarK Rant for Mid-South Wrestlefest 85 – 07.28.85

OK, I thought I’d post this again now we’ve actually hit this point in the Mid-South reviews, because it puts it a little bit more in context now after it was originally dropped onto the Network last year.  Also the Mid-South/WCCW review this morning is bombing like Dolph Ziggler at a comedy club and I need more content today.  Furnace repairs aren’t free, even with insurance!

This was originally written 05/05/19 according to my records.

The SmarK Rant for WWE Network Hidden Gems – Mid-South Wrestlefest 85

Been waiting to get around to this one for a while now, but nothing like a lazy Sunday to catch up.  I did actually start this one last week, but real life intervened and I had to stop and scrap it early on.

Taped from Skelly Stadium, in Tulsa OK, 07.28.85.  Not sure on the gate but it looks pretty full.  No commentary for this show.

The SmarK Rant for the Red River Showdown (Mid South v. World Class) – 07.27.85

The SmarK Rant for the Red River Showdown – 07.27.85

I really liked the suggestion of “Red River Showdown” as the name for these, for the Oklahoma v. Texas angle of these reviews.  Plus I think Bruiser Brody’s chosen masked alias was Red River Jack, so it’s a nice little tribute to him as well.  So once again, we journey back to 1985 for the battle between Mid South and World Class!  But I need a logo, can someone with more Photoshop skillz than I have (ie, anyone) whip up a combination Mid South/World Class thing for me?

We’ll start with Bill Watts this week.  And the thumbnail appears to be Dick Murdoch taking the Pledge of Allegiance so you know this is gonna be a good one.

The SmarK Rant for Mid-South v. World Class – 07.13.85

The SmarK Rant for World Class Championship Wrestling v. Mid-South Wrestling – 07.13.85

Man, I really enjoyed that episode of World Class I did last week, and I’m gonna carry on with this era for bit, even though I’m well aware that this is going to completely tank my numbers for the day and no one’s gonna read it.  Also, I get the impression that people don’t really like Mid-Atlantic for whatever reason, so we’ll permanently go with World Class and Mid-South as the combatants.

The SmarK Rant for Mid-South Wrestling – 06.29.85

Of course normally this would be the Mid-South v. Mid-Atlantic wars, but after I did Mid-South this week, I discovered that in fact the WWE Network is missing three weeks of Mid-Atlantic TV shows at this point.  So much like NXT and AEW, Bill Watts gets to run unopposed for the next couple of episodes.

Vacation time is here!  Can’t go anywhere in Covid-World, but I’ve got a stack of DC 100 Page Giants to catch up on, and a couple of seasons of SuperFriends that I ordered for myself for Father’s Day last month.

Meanwhile, I just wanted something light and easy to review tonight after a long day at work, and it’s been a while since we’ve visited the Irish McNeil Boy’s Club on the Network.
