Sporting News: Winners & Losers from the Shakeup

I actually watched Smackdown last night because although I don’t subscribe to the Sportsnet channel that carries it, it was pre-empted in Canada and made available on the Sportsnet Now streaming service, which I DO subscribe to.  And the show was OK, although the Carmella stuff was death.  Clearly Vince thinks that RAW was the big winner, but he is very wrong.

Obviously when my editor at the Sporting News asked me to do a list of the 10 greatest Wrestlemania matches featuring Canadian wrestlers, he really had to twist my arm. Hopefully we can add the Zayn & Owens match to the list next year!

I know, I know, we’re all getting a bit nostalgic for the good old days what with WarGames and Starrcade coming out of mothballs to liven up the winter months.  But remember:  It’s all fun and games until someone is getting thrown into the river after a monster truck sumo challenge.  Let this list be a cautionary tale for the next time someone decides it’s a good idea to raid WCW’s “creative” coffers.

Given all of the recent insanity in TNA/Global/Impact/whatever, I figured an appropriate topic of conversation for this week’s Sporting News column would be the time that Hogan and Bischoff decided to restart the Monday Night Wars and literally did everything wrong in the process.
