The road to Wrestlemania continues tonight with another live RAW from…somewhere. And I’m assuming it’ll be used to push the upcoming Wrestlemania show, which is supposed to have damn near 20 matches and only about three have been announced. Do better WWE!

Oh well, at least A.J. Styles is staying with the promotion

HHH, Batista, Brock….you know all the REAL stars…will be in the building tonight with the rest of the crew.

4 NHL games, including the one I’m at watching the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Arizona Coyotes and 9 NBA games.

The great animated flick “Sing” is on FX tonight and HBO has a documentary on that Elizabeth Holmes chick that stole a load of money on some pharmaceutical scam and who doesn’t blink.

(A couple of housecleaning items. The October 6, 2015 NXT is a review show with nothing but highlights and that Dusty Rhodes tribute video that always makes me cry so there’s no reason to review that. So the next show to do a review of Takeover: Respect by the weekend.)

Howdy Blog O’Doomers!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. The WWE put on a nice little Network special last night despite lacking in fanfare and build up. Which is proof that all you need is a hot crowd and motivated workers to make a good watch.

With that behind us it’s all Wrestlemania all the time until the big show. Apparently Batista is scheduled to be in the house tonight and the Shield are having a farewell announcement and I feel like we’ll know Roman Reigns’ and Dean Ambrose’s WM plans during that speech.

We’ve got seven NHL games including my Lightning taking on the evil Toronto Maple Leafs and six NBA games.

Other TV fare out there…there’s The Voice…there’s the season finale of “The Passage” which I quit watching after a couple of weeks. And there’s a John Lennon documentary on A&E. And also lots of NFL free agency news I’m sure.

Wrestlemania 36 Comes to Tampa, Florida!

Word broke out last week but today the WWE made it official. Wrestlemania 36 will be held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on April 5, 2020.

And the logo. Which has a heavy hint of the gimmick of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

https://twitter.com/WWE_NEWS_NBC/status/1103691721215479808

Without assuming too much I think it’s safe to say that NXT Takeover, The Hall of Fame ceremony and the post-Wrestlemania RAW will all be at Amalie Arena. Fan Access will likely be at the Convention Center unless they hold it way out at the Florida State Fairgrounds.

Obviously this is very exciting for me and those of us on the Blog that live a short distance away.

Last week was one of those RAWs that kind of lived up to the hype. Fastlane is pretty after an afterthought as anything other than a table settle for Wrestlemania so expect most of the remaining shows to push toward the big card. So we’ll see the usual suspects tonight and probably dig into the Triple H-Batista situation that’s will come from last week’s angle.

As for everything else on the tube there’s the second part of “Leaving Neverland” on HBO and the Oprah inclusive interview following. Haven’t watched Part 1. I might. The R Kelly stuff was enough for me for a while.

7 NBA games, 2 NHL with a Flames-Maple Leafs game I might glance at.

RIP Luke Perry…Loved me some 90210 in my teenage years.

At Lightning game so we’ll keep this short. After the NXT boys raised the ratings slightly they are bringing back the BIG GUNS tonight with Roman Reigns making a MAJOR SECRET announcement and probably a bunch of people around for Ric Flair’s 70th Birthday Bash. Hopefully Arn Anderson will show up too even though he got fired…or retired…or something happened.

Six NHL games. 10 NBA games. A bunch of reality television.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Seems like a mixed review on the PPV last night but I thought both Chamber matches hit around four stars each so that’s plenty good for me. Little surprised they didn’t put the tag titles on Mandy and Sonya because you can tell they want to push Mandy to the moon but they can’t justify putting a singles title on her over the much superior workers in the division. Still they gave the women time last night and most of them looks good.

So RAW slogs ahead tonight as we got yet another PPV before Wrestlemania. The Road to Wrestlemania now feels like Interstate 10 from start to finish (Jacksonville, FL to Santa Monica, Calif. for those of you not familiar with the U.S. highway system).

Rumor is some NXT top talent might be on the show tonight.

Six NHL games, NBA is on All-star break and it’s a light college basketball schedule.

And there’s other stuff on too.

The Princess Rant for NXT 8-26-2015

I’ve been looking for a writing project to get me back on the site regularly instead of just doing the Monday night threads and posting in the daily discussions. So after scanning through the Network for a couple of months I finally settled on picking up NXT around the third quarter of 2015. Mainly because this seemed to be right about the time that NXT started to find their stride. They had turned over some of the roster with Neville, Kevin Owens, Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Sasha Banks either moving to the main roster or in roster transition and working on the main shows while tying up loose ends in NXT. Meanwhile the next NXT roster was starting to take shape and Triple H was beginning to get much more aggressive in signing talent.

So we are going to pick this up after the first NXT Takeover: Brooklyn show.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Seemed like a pretty nice relaxing weekend and the weather was beautiful here.

Onto the shows. The build for the Elimination Chamber continues along with doubling up on the Road to Wrestlemania and there is so much left to be solved on both fronts. Becky is supposed to return and face the McMahons because the one thing this match needed with the McMahons. And Ronda Rousey is going to be defending her women’s title about Ruby Riott.

Mustafa Ali is out of the Smackdown Elimination Chamber with various injuries.

Three games in the NHL and nine in the Association round out the sports.

New episode of Arrow, new episode of The Bachelor, new episode of America’s Got Talent. All kinds of new episodes of TV for you to rot your brains with.

And this fun little video from about 20 years ago when Roddy Piper, Sting, Medusa and Bobby Heenan on Politically Incorrect.

What a Super Bowl that was? All those punts and stuff! It felt like watching Wrestlemania 32 all over again.

There is a live RAW tonight as we continue the quick build to the Elimination Chamber and the slower build to Wrestlemania. With the brand extension coming to a soft close WM gets closer. It appears that Seth Rollins is dealing with some injuries and might be slowed down for a few weeks. But there is a Kurt Angle announcement and probably an appearance from Becky Lynch to look forward to. And of course we will keep an eye on Dean Ambrose and see how he will end his WWE run. I think he might make a final face turn so he can put over a heel at Wrestlemania.

Slow night in sports. Four NHL games, Six in the NBA and a limited college basketball schedule. New episodes of America’s Got Talent and The Bachelor to get your reality fix plus there’s a new episode of Arrow tonight.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! The Royal Rumble happened on Sunday and of course there are reviews here and here. NXT Takeover happened Saturday with a review here.

My reviews will be much shorter. I thought Takeover was tremendous. I feel the same anticipation for a Johnny Gargano “PPV” match the way I felt about a Shawn Michaels match in the mid-90s through his first retirement. I just have to see them because they never disappoint. And I love the depth he’s added to the turn of the character. The tag match were great. Strong and O’Reilly are a joy to watch. I can’t see much for them until the main rosters focus on tags more. Strong had some great matches in 205 but Adam Cole seems like the only guy of the Undisputed Era that might have a shot on the main roster as it’s currently constructed. The War Raiders were great too. They really did everything they had to do to win over that crowd and as a I fan I can appreciate that.

The Rumble was all right. Becky-Asuka was really good and I’m all right with Becky losing because it set up a win later and Asuka stayed strong, like she should be. Sasha-Ronda and Finn-Brock were entertaining enough. The Women’s Rumble was poorly planned and poorly worked. They had better options than having Natalya and Lacey Evans go long, last year Sasha and Becky were the first in and it showed with much better pace to the match. Charlotte was disappointing as well, she should have been booked stronger in the match to make the final elimination a little more dramatic. I don’t understand why they wasted Bayley for the second year. With Sasha and Becky occupied this should have been her year to go 45-50 minutes. Men’s Rumble was better but just fell flat at the end. Wasn’t much to the closing sequence.

Tonight is Super Bowl LIII Opening Night. Two NHL games and five in the NBA. There’s Celebrity Big Brother, The Bachelor, etc. etc. for non-sports TV.

It’s go home time as the Royal Rumble is less than a week away! I’m going to binge Superstars for a few hours tonight to remember if I liked or hated that show during that time period.

Seems like there’s good news on the health front for Roman. Keep fighting Big Dog!

Looks like Matt Hardy could be a surprise entrant in the Rumble? Speaking of which has Bray Wyatt been seen recently?

Anyway there were a bunch of NBA games being played all day. A couple left this evening. Couple NHL games and a limited college basketball schedule. Kind of a light TV night.

It’s the penultimate show to the go-home show for the Royal Rumble. Man it feels like the Rumble creeped up on us quickly this year. And that’s probably because RAW had a run of such bad shows they were forced to do a soft reset.

Anyway as part of tonight’s show you will see the IC-title triple threat between Lashley, Ambrose and Rollins and PW Insider is teasing a few possible debuts from the NXT lads that got the call up.

Nothing on TV really excites me. There’s a lot of college basketball.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, the first weekend of 2019.

We’re back on a regular RAW schedule as the hard build for the Royal Rumble should begin now. I expect there will be some nice tributes to “Mean” Gene Okerlund despite the appearance of Hulk Hogan. With Gene, Heenan and Gorilla all gone they were kind of the commentary faces of that 80s wrestling boom period. Definitely a loss of another one-of-a-kind personality.

Beyond whatever happens with RAW we have a game between Alabama and Clemson that will determine the college football national championship. I don’t really have a dog in this fight so Clemson I guess?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

For those watching the TV or the football enjoy your evenings. If you go out please be safe. If you think you’re too drunk to drive, you are right.

WWE’s backstage smokes how Charly Caruso hosted ESPN’s First Take today and according to her Instagram she will do it again on January 2nd. Yay Charly! Here’s one of her segments!

You know I can’t ask you guys to keep it clean on NYE but PLEASE keep it safe 🙂

And a Merry Christmas Eve to all of you celebrating and a Happy Festivus for the rest of yous. RAW is on TV tonight and like most of their shows right before Christmas, I expect it to be a pretty light hearted affair that’s a little lower on storylines.

The Broncos/Raiders MNF game is a dog but there are plenty of good seasonal moves with “Beauty and the Beast” on ABC, “It’s a Wonderful Life” on NBC and “A Christmas Carol” on TMC. I think IFC starts their “Die Hard” marathon tonight as well.

I did want to add a couple of year-end match recommendations that you might have missed during the year because they just weren’t well publicized.

— Roderick Strong had a nice short run in 205 Live and both his match vs. Hideo Itami on the February 6 episode is very good, arguably Itami’s best in WWE. His match against Cedric Alexander on the March 13 episode is also excellent.

— Pete Dunne vs. Zack Gibson for the WWE UK title on the second day of the UK Tournament is a damn good match and they sold the drama well.

— Another good 205 Live gem is a tag match with Buddy Murphy and Tony Nese against Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik. Murphy was all a pretty good roll by that point.

In other news Road Warrior Animal sounds like a moron and gets dissed on Twitter.

Anyway talk about all the good food you guys will be having the next two days and keep it clean!

Well there might be a whole lot of shakin’ going on tonight. Vince McMahon is returning to TV against his better wishes because someone on creative (or the head of creative) decided that revolving a few weeks of shows around Baron Corbin was a good idea. That person, whomever it is, should probably be fired. Hopefully the shake up is smart and not doing something for the sake of doing something.

Outside of Vinnie’s big return, it’s the fallout from TLC. If you didn’t watch it, you can check out Scott’s review or Thomas’ review. My thoughts are pretty simple: The tag match was good, Ronda continues to impress me with her commitment to wanting to have good matches and the main event was stellar. Everything else was average-to-bad for me — wasn’t crazy about AJ-Bryan and Rollins-Ambrose was embarrassingly boring.

Saints-Panthers tonight as the Saints will lock up the NFC No. 1 seed with a win I believe. Eight NBA games, five in the NHL and a bunch of Christmas themed stuff on the other channels I’m sure.

Welcome to another exciting edition of the Monday Night Thread! Tonight we’re going to see how low RAW can go. It is the TLC go home show so maybe things will improve but I doubt it.

The Vikings and Seahawks are your Monday Night Football game and it’s one with serious playoff implications.

There are four NHL games, including the Lightning-Rangers game that I am attending and there are 11 NBA games. All kinds of music stuff is on tonight. There’s The Voice and some Country Christmas Special and some other Christmas special starring Pentatonix, which I remember seeing from another Christmas special a few years back. Sounds exciting.

I’m posting this early in the day so if any news breaks late afternoon I won’t have it. Tonight RAW will continue the build to TLC and possibly add another match.

Meanwhile the Eagles and the Washington team is your Monday Night Football game.

Bunch of stuff on TV. Some fall finales are starting to appear. Personally I’m excited about the return of Deal or No Deal at 10 p.m. EST.

And since I don’t have much else to add here’s a link to Edge and Christian playing NHL95 on UpUpDownDown
