Monday Night Open Mic

Howdy Blog O’Doomers!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and a Shanah Tovah to those that celebrated Rosh Hashanah over the weekend.

RAW is on tonight. Are we in the Shane McMahon creative era yet? Is that going to be a thing? If his creative era has kicked off already, I will say that last week’s show had a hell of an ending.

It’s the go home show for Clash of the Champions, so presumably SOMETHING is going to happen to connect the dots to that show.

Plenty of sports otherwise. Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Dallas Stars. The Raiders and Saints will be on several networks with an Monday Night Football megacast. And there is a full night of baseball.

Check out some of the content on the page. Scott is re-doing Saturday Night’s Main Events and there are a few other things. There is a thread on Cobra Kai I haven’t read, but looks interesting. Lots of cartoon stuff as well.

So I was thinking I should include the matches on these Hogan-Piper superfriends promos I have linked. Their first promo was a six-man elimination match at the Boston Garden. And here’s that match:

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was nice and rainy here in West Central Florida, which kept the temperatures from getting ridiculously hot. I’ll take it.

Check out Scott’s rant on Clash X: Texas Shootout, a super fun card despite Sting destroying his knee.

RAW is live tonight and I know they are going to have a Street Profits vs. Artists Collective match, but I’m not sure what else because I’m watching football. Giants vs. Steelers in the early game and Titans-Broncos in the late game. Dallas will try to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Final tonight when they play Vegas. There is a full slate of baseball as well.

I’m still on my Piper/Hogan Superfriends kick so here’s another ridiculous promo from 1987.

I am doing this a little early today so there might be some news I’m missing out on in regards to RAW tonight. Is this the week Shane McMahon starts as the head of RAW creative? When does he start!!!!

Not a whole lot happened this week outside of AEW having their big blow-off PPV that Matt Hardy almost died for (some workers should just take the WWE comedy gimmicks and enjoy making money in their mid-late 40s). I am definitely going to scour the inter webs for the FTR/Page-Omega match though, because that seemed well-regarded.

Meanwhile Vince released a hoss tag team for whatever reason and then cut off the roster from third-party usage, probably because Lana (a.k.a the escape goat) was using it to do some side dealings and that’s a no-no. Anyway this edict served to confuse workers even more and it seems like most will just charge on using their given names.

We got the start of the Eastern Conference Finals in the NHL today (Go Lightning!!) and two pivotal NBA Playoff games. A full slate of baseball and a college football clash between BYU and Navy. Happy Labo(u)r Day to all. Be kind to each other.

Here’s Piper and Hogan going out of their minds in a 1987 promo. Hot take: Piper/Hogan Megapowers would’ve been just as awesome.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and you are all still being very safe and courteous of those around you.

Scott and Thomas both have Payback reviews up and are worthy of your clicks. I thought the show was good, way better than I expected. Most of the board seemed to feel that way too with the women’s tag and the Rollins/Murphy vs. Mysterios tag gaining high praise. Scott and Thomas really didn’t like the show. I thought at least one of the ratings was downright ridiculous, but whatever, everyone’s got a preference.

RAW is coming back at you tonight with new women’s tag champs and a new U.S. champion. Is this the start of the Shane McMahon creative era? Do we know if that’s really happening?

Anyway got some playoff hockey (Go Lightning!!) and playoff NBA tonight with a slate of baseball.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was probably the biggest wrestling weekend in recent memory with WWE doing an NXT Takeover and Summerslam and AEW running Dynamite on Saturday.

And we got the best result…a lot of good stuff. NXT Takeover got a lot of heat for whatever reason, but it was another outstanding effort even if they couldn’t stick the landing on the main event. AEW Dynamite had a tremendous angle to end their two hour weekly episode and crowned new women tag champions.

Summerslam was definitely better than expected with everyone working hard and putting their best foot forward. Roman Reigns returning at the end provided a very unexpected surprise.

Now we move on. Keith Lee is expected to make his debut on RAW at the Thunderdome tonight. There will probably be a quick setup for Payback. I’m guessing a lot of rematches.

Renee Young (Paquette) wrote a very sweet letter to her “WWE Family” through the Players Tribune.

NHL Eastern and Western Conference second round games continue as the NBA closes out their first round. We got baseball too. Enjoy your evening.

Another weekend by the waste side and it leads us to Monday night. Tonight RAW is actually Live from the Amway Center in Orlando where they will present their “Thunderdome” presentation. I’m sure it’s worth a look.

By all accounts Sonya Deville is fine after the kidnapping attempt. The perpetrator has been caught, arrested and charged. Hopefully he will get the help that he needs while he deals with the legal ramifications of his actions.

WWE Network added 10 more episodes of Superstars.

NHL and NBA Playoffs are continuing through the evening. I have to admit I like the “March Madness” style of just having games all day on top of each other.

The all virtual DNC starts tonight as well.

Sonya Deville escapes kidnapping attempt

Very scary situation for Sonya Deville (real name: Daria Berenato) as a South Carolina man successfully entered her Florida home around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

“The entry triggered an alarm, which led to the homeowner looking out the window and seeing Thomas on the property. The homeowner and a guest fled the house in a car and called 911. Thomas was still inside the residence when officers arrived, per the release. He was carrying a knife, plastic zip ties, duct tape, mace and “other personal items.”

I have no clue about the WWE’s current taping schedule so no idea if RAW is live tonight or not. Mickie James is supposed to return. I guess that’s something. I hope they replay Bianca Belair attacking Zelina Vega at her house while she was doing a Twitch stream with Kayla Braxton. I like that. Whether they green lit that themselves or someone in creative came up with the idea, I like when social media is used like that to further a program.

Anyway the build to Summerslam continues.

NHL is off tonight before official Stanley Cup Playoffs start tomorrow. NBA Bubble action continues through the evening. MLB has a full slate unless you are the St. Louis Cardinals.

Well pretty slow Monday news dump eh? We got a group that includes The Rock purchasing the XFL for about $15 million. Seems like an interesting investment and certainly something they have time to sit on while we live in pandemic world.

And with RAW tonight the WWE announces Shane McMahon is returning to the camera and he’s going to do something or introduce a faction or a concept or something.

AEW Dynamite will be pre-empted a few times over the next two months to make room for the NBA.

Lot of sports tonight. I’m watching the end of the Lightning-Caps right now. Three more games coming up with Vegas-Dallas about to face-off with the Habs-Pens and Blackhawks-Oilers coming up down the evening.

Half the NBA’s daily schedule is done with the big Zion-Ja matchup coming at 6:30, Lakers-Jazz and Spurs-Sixers will close it out.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. The Florida Marlins certainly didn’t. Something tells me this sports thing might not be the smartest move right now. That’s just me.

RAW is on tonight trying to follow up the ratings BOOM from Smackdown on Friday. Yes a show that everyone predicted would be one of the lowest rated ever posted its best numbers in a month. Proof that none of this makes sense.

The Adam Cole-Pat McAfee work got into full-blown work mode today when Triple H joined the show. Last week’s interview wasn’t a bad piece of business, but they have to be careful not to overdo it…and they will likely overdo it.

We got baseball tonight…despite a team in full CoVid outbreak mode and some NBA scrimmages. NHL exhibition games start tomorrow. Who knows if any of this will lead to something.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. We had the big TNA Slammiversary: WWE Outcasts House PPV over the weekend and the appropriately named “Horror Show” on Sunday. Speak on these things if you want.

I’m assuming they have taped a bunch of stuff for RAW. I have no clue.

I hope everyone had a safe weekend and continue to survive in this time of the pandemic.

RAW has been in the can for a little bit now and it’s the go home show for The Extreme Rules Horror Show or whatever this particular version of Extreme Rules is called. Expect a lot of build toward the Sunday broadcast.

Otherwise check out Scott’s review of When Worlds Collide. He undersells it quite a bit IMO, but still a fun read.

Just remain patient in these strange times and treat each other well.

I hope everyone is coming off of a nice week whether you celebrated Canada Day or Independence Day! I think the WWE taped a bunch of stuff tonight for future shows. No spoilers here though.

Definitely recommend Scott’s reviews of GAB 89 and GAB 90 from the weekend. Sadly he hasn’t done GAB 1991 and I’m not sure if he could sit through it again.

There is some live sports on tonight I think. A couple games from The Basketball Tournament maybe?

Stay safe people. Treat each other well. Keep it clean.

I hope everyone is staying safe and doing whatever they can to survive. It’s crazy out there right now.

I think some form of RAW will be on tonight. Hard to say who will be there and what will be shown, but there is wrestling programming scheduled from 8 to 11 p.m. on USA Network. Towaza will defend the 24/7 belt in a rematch with R-Truth. Viking Raiders take on Garza and Andrade and a I think Crews vs. MVP is also scheduled.

Lots of repeats of other programming on tonight as we’re still three-plus weeks away from the potential beginning of major team sports in America.

There’s Canada Day and Independence Day this week. Please be safe and try to respect each other.

Howdy Blog O’Doomers!

Welcome to another Monday Night here at the blog. I hope everyone had a great weekend and stayed safe.

Tonight on a previously taped RAW (I think) it’s CHAMPIONSHIP MONDAY! We got the women’s title on the line between Asuka and the biggest female star in the industry Charlotte and then the World Tag Championship between the Street Profits and the Viking Raiders and the Women’s Tag Championship featuring Sasha and Bailey against the IIconics and to close out this mega show we’ve got R-Truth in a rare in-ring 24/7 title defense against Tozawa.

Gonna be hard to beat that show.

LATE EVENING NEWS DUMP: It appears that WWE Backstage has been canceled. Probably means the end of CM Punk talking WWE and it could very well put Renee Young’s role with the company in question.

As for the news that’s hit wrestling recently. I just want to say I hope the guilty are completely banished and the women that have been violated can find some comfort in that.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. We had another sorta/kinda PPV last night. Sadly I checked out before the GOAT wrestling match, which at least by most accounts hit the **** range. I liked the Lashley-McIntyre match. Good power match.

RAW is either live or taped tonight, the first under the Brother Love banner so expect lots of Charlotte and Seth Rollins. Word has gotten out that A.J. Styles was hating life on RAW because they made fun of him being a flat earther and his belief that CoVid-19 came from the same pizza parlor that Hillary Clinton ran her child slave trade operations from. And he blamed Heyman for the Good Brothers getting the axe. Wow has A.J. Styles always been that big of a whiny bitch? Just asking.

Anyway. ESPN has some “Return to Sports’ thing on tonight with some sports commissioners. I hope none of them listen to the baseball commissioner. Fox Sports 1 has some old games from the 2018 World Cup.

I hope everyone is having a good day. It’s Backlash go-home week for a show that I believe is already in the can. In Your House was last night. I really liked the two woman’s matches even though Shirai almost killed Rhea Ripley. I really liked Damien Priest-Finn Balor. I saw some real star potential in Priest.

Looks like there might be some significant call-ups. I suggested Dream, Ciampa and Priest move up and maybe Lee if they can get the N.A. title off of him in the next couple weeks. NXT needs a full influx of new developmental. And I would even move a couple guys down like Ali and Gable…maybe Cedric Alexander.

Anyway there’s the Best of “The Bachelor” on ABC. That’s a warning, not necessarily a suggestion. I think I’m going to load up the DVR and watch “Quiz” from last night. The ESPN documentary on Bruce Lee airs on ESPN2 at 8 p.m.

Keep. It. Clean.

It’s been quite the week and the weekend so I haven’t been as active the board as I usually am and that will probably continue a little while longer. I will do a review of the Owen Hart episode of Dark Side of the Ring soon, maybe by the weekend or next week. It’s a good episode and needs to be reviewed. I just want to be in the right mindset to do it. Sadly Dino Bravo and Road Warrior Hawk will be skipped for now, but those episodes were horrible.

RAW is sorta of taped tonight I think. Got an old Monday Night Game from last season between the Seahawks and 49ers on. I think there’s a throwback to old seasons of The Bachelor on ABC. Ahhh summer time viewing without sports is tough but that will probably change in the next several weeks.

Scott has a re-done rant of Royal Rumble 1993.

Take care of yourselves.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. We’ve got an action-packed Monday (not really). I think RAW is live or taped or something. Baron Corbin will be challenging Drew McIntyre for the World title in a crossover match because God knows when the ratings are down Baron Corbin is the guy that save the day.

Scott did a review update of Royal Rumble 1992. It’s a pretty historic card.

Outside of wrestling, ESPN is showing an old Monday Night game from a couple of years ago with Pat Mahomes doing Pat Mahomes stuff.

The Birds, a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie from the 60s, is on BBC tonight. I always enjoy watching that movie.

Quarantine viewing has improved a little, but it’s still a challenge so find something if you can.
