The Daily!: October 3, 2018

As Alexander Haig once said, “As of now, I’m in control. Don’t panic.”

…okay, panic.

Thoughts and prayers for Joey Janela, whose knee ligaments basically exploded during his match with Psicosis.  It’s so bad he may miss all of 2019.

As NOVA Project 4 is up on Powerbomb TV, I’ll provide a recap either today or tomorrow.

In the meantime, let’s get old-school.  From WWE’s official YouTube account (so I’m sure I’m okay posting it), here’s Bruno Sammartino defending the WWWF Title against Ernie Ladd, MSG, 1976.

Sunday Night Reset: September 30, 2018

Hey, someone remember to wake up Billie Joe Armstrong.

We’re going to have TWO tiebreakers in the NL, as Milwaukee/Chicago and Colorado/LA will face off.  Winners are division champs, losers play in the wild card game.

The AL playoff tree is set: Oakland at New York for the wildcard, winner faces Boston; Cleveland at Houston.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh is your NFL Game of the Night.  Over/Under on unsportsmanlike conduct fouls is 2.5.

Enjoy the night!

The Daily Discussion: September 26, 2018

Welcome to the Blog of Doom daily thread, now being simulcast on TruthTV!  Some fun news and notes to discuss:

  • PW Insider reports that there was discussion about possibly bringing Brock Lesnar in this week for Raw.  Obviously, that didn’t happen; there is no timetable for his next Raw appearance.
  • Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources tell him Sasha Banks is out due to an undisclosed medical issue.
  • The original plan in 2017 was for Dean Ambrose to be the one to turn heel on the Shield.  Injuries derailed that idea… although seeds are being sown right now, right?
  • According to the Observer, the Shield six-man to close out Raw got high marks from Vince himself, a good sign for a potential AOP push.

Sunday Night Reset: September 23, 2018

NOVA Project 4 was a blast.  When it’s available on Powerbomb TV I’ll drop a rant on you.  However, I can share this:  in April, we’re taking part in Mania Weekend!  WE’RE GOING TO WRESTLEMANIA!

Tonight’s NFL Game of the Week is New England/Detroit, as Tom Brady tries to get back to winning ways.  Meanwhile, the MLB Game of the Week is Boston/Cleveland, as both teams are setting their playoff rosters.

If there’s a groupwatch, I didn’t hear of it.  Personally, I’m viewing WrestleMania XII.  But I’m weird like that.

Enjoy the night!

We’ve made it!

Greetings, Blog of Doomers!  I am currently on location in Fairfax, VA, for NOVA Pro Wrestling’s NOVA Project 4, our anniversary show.  I’ll try to get a picture with 2 Cold Scorpio for y’all.

Tonight’s a decent night for college football, as Penn State faces Illinois and FAU and UCF battle for Group of 5 supremacy.

Tomorrow’s College GameDay Game of the Week is Stanford at Oregon.

Congrats to the Browns!

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

We’ve made it to the weekend!

Some of us in the Blog of Doom will be watching JCW Oddball Brawl (2013) from Detroit, Michigan.  Your card — not in any order and as without spoilers as one can have for a five-year-old card — is:

  • Bill Martel vs. Honky Tonk Man
  • Smothers Family (Isabella and Tracy) vs. Ring Girl Randy & Weedman
  • Evil Dead & Rude Boy vs. Mad Man Pondo & Necro Butcher
  • Kongo Kong vs. Zach Gowen
  • The Ring Rydas (Red & Blue) (champions) vs. The Thomaselli Brothers (Pauly & Vito) (challengers) for the JCW Tag Team Championships
  • Breyer Wellington vs. The Boogeyman (Bag Of Freshness Match)
  • Jon Bolen vs. Lashley
  • 2 Tuff Tony (champion) vs. Daivari (challenger) for the JCW Heavyweight Championship (Lumberjack Match)

Or, if you want more modern wrestling, MLW is having a WarGames on beIN Sport.

Your football tonight is Georgia State taking on Memphis.  Tomorrow’s GameDay Game of the Week is Ohio State facing TCU in Cowboys Stadium.

Enjoy the weekend!

Impact, Indies, and Insanity: September 13, 2018

Impact Wrestling is on tonight at 8 as always.  Advertised matches are the Lucha Bros against Lee and Conley as well as Brian Cage against Kongo Kong.

The NFL Game of the Week of the Night is Ravens/Bengals, while the NCAA Early Special is… on right now, actually (Boston College/Wake Forest).

After the jump, your indie wrestling roundup:

I AM BACK FROM OHIO!

Our dojo, CRAB Wrestling, performed at a taco festival in Cleveland.  And we left a gift — the power of the Browns to avoid defeat!

I mean, we couldn’t make them win or anything — we’re not miracle workers.

Anyway, tonight’s games are Astros/Red Sox in MLB and Bears/Packers in NFL.  I’ll be watching baseball.  Also, sometime this week I’ll put out a column on our parent promotion, NOVA Pro, whose anniversary show is coming up.

Enjoy the night!

Thursday Night Thread

Sorry, guys, no time for the usual roundup — busy packing for my trip to Ohio with the dojo.

RIP Burt Reynolds — there’s always time to mourn a legend.

Enjoy the night!

Sunday Night Reset: September 2, 2018

Welcome to the Sunday Night Reset, where in a parallel universe the Okada/Scurll match is still going.

The ResistANTce are your winners of the 2018 King of Trios tournament, winning the final with a Chikara Special.  Sometimes you can go home again.

College football tonight is Miami (FL) against LSU, while baseball’s Game of the Week is Astros against Angels.  NFL begins next week, which is too bad.

Wrestling training adventure: our dojo show does their first non-Maryland show next week, as we’ve been invited to perform in Ohio.

Enjoy the night!

Lazy Sunday Thread: September 2, 2018

Let the All In hangover begin.

Fun fact: Dusty and Cody Rhodes are NOT the first father-son duo to be World Champions.  That honor goes to Fritz Von Erich (AWA, 1963) and Kerry Von Erich (NWA, 1984).  Dusty/Cody are second.

Talk, heathens.

Viva la weekend!

I’ll be watching my alma mater’s season opener tonight.  For those who like college football, there’s a lot of great games, with the highest-ranked one being Auburn vs Washington on a neutral field.  GameDay will be at South Bend, IN, for Michigan at Notre Dame.

If you all want, we could get together for a Labor Day PPV watch — a friend of mine and I want to do commentary with our friends.  Any suggestions?  (Yes, Wnyx, I know of your suggestion to jump in a lake.)

Enjoy the night!

Impact, Indies, and Insanity: August 30, 2018

Impact tonight is doing a Named Show: Redefined.  Matches advertised are Rich Swann vs Petey Williams, Brian Cage vs Fenix for the X Division Title, Su Yung vs Allie vs Tessa Blanchard for the Knockouts title, and Austin Aries/Killer Kross vs Moose/Eddie Edwards.

After the jump, your indie weekend roundup.

Found him!

Last night at TripleMania, Fenix won the AAA Mega Championship, while El Hijo del Fantasma unmasked.  Also, Dr. Wagner Jr challenged LA Park to an Apuesta for next year’s TripleMania.

RIP John McCain, a man basically everyone in politics respected.

Talk, heathens.

We made it!  Viva la weekend!

Anyway, as you’re reading this, I’m at the NOVA Pro show Summer of George, helping out with music, ring bell, and anything else they need me for in an effort to pay dues.  And be a part of a great community.  That too.

Tonight’s community re-watch is AAA When Worlds Collide, which I believe has Art Barr’s last match.  At least his last high-profile one.  It’s also the answer to a trivia question: what was Eddie Guerrero’s only match to get 5 stars from Dave Meltzer (back when Dave had credibility and stopped at 5)?

It also features a trios match where one team is Chris Benoit, Scorpio, and Tito Santana, a team I never knew I needed.

Enjoy the weekend!
