WCW Live – Miami – April, ’99!

Some cool raw footage to share from a WCW house show from back in the day. I know it died a terrible, horrible death, but the wrestling world was so much better with a WCW in it. Some quick thoughts underneath the video:

  • Malenko and Benoit were great as a heel tag team in the Horsemen.
  • Kidman was an awesome wrestler, but the jorts and tanktop were something he should’ve switched out of as soon as possible.
  • Great shots of the kids enjoying the show.
  • Arn is working it great at ringside, playing the imaginary violin at one point, sarcastically.
  • YOU CAN’T POWERBOMB KIDMAN!
  • The ref mounting the ropes to avoid the action is a great show of instincts. In fact, I think it’s a jet black Scott Armstrong.
  • It’s a house show, yet everyone is giving it their all.
  • I forgot that Disco Inferno was an nWo hanger-on for a spell.
  • Konnan walks in looking like a gangsta version of a Smurf.
  • Disco gets great heat.
  • I’m so glad the low jeans/high boxers look passed.
  • Weird to see Konnan pull out some lucha moves when he was well into the lazy stage of his career.
  • The Tequila Sunrise still looks terrible all these years later.
  • Meng, the opponent this night for Goldberg, looks ripped for him – never seen him with almost-abs!
  • Goldberg’s security detail is down to Doug Dellinger seeing as it’s not TV.
  • Meng extends the average Goldberg match length by threatening to walk out and stalling with the crowd.
  • Nice fake out move, which I believe made it into the Revenge game, with Goldberg feigning heading off the ropes and then hitting a clothesline out of nowhere.
  • Cameo from Bam Bam Bigelow, looking like a fat tourist, for an attempted run-in.
  • If wrestling, or rather Vince McMahon, wasn’t so petty then Bill should’ve had a far longer and more successful run in the WWF.
  • Smiling, non-TV Goldberg doing the walk around ringside shaking hands is a welcome sight compared to the aura he usually had to maintain.
