WWF Superstars – October 14th, 1995

October 14, 1995

From Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN

Your hosts are Vince McMahon, Jim Ross, and Jerry “The King” Lawler

The show starts with a taped promo from Waylon Mercy stating he is going to put Diesel to sleep today.

Jacob & Eli Blu w/ Uncle Zebekiah vs. Razor Ramon & 1-2-3 Kid

We see a clip from two weeks ago when Razor & Kid reunited after their match but Lawler wants to know how tight their friendship is now. Jacob shoves Razor a few times to start the match. Razor then trips up Jacob with a drop toehold and slaps him around while maintaining an armbar. Vince talks about Razor & Kid facing the Smoking Gunns for the Tag Team Titles as Jacob drops Razor with a clothesline. Eli tags in and hammers away before tagging out. Jacob puts Razor in the tree-of-woe and stomps away then tags out again but Eli ducks his head and gets taken down with a knee lift. Kid tags and hits Eli with several kicks until he gets caught with a powerslam for a two count. Jacob & Eli hit Kid with a double back drop then we see the Gunns scout their competition from the entrance. Jacob & Eli maintain control and keep the match going at a methodical pace. Eli misses an elbow drop but is able to knock Razor off of the apron to prevent a tag. The ref admonishes Razor after he attempted to run into the ring as Jacob & Eli beat on Kid in the corner as we go to break. Match returns with Kid fighting back but the ref yells at Razor and let the Jacob & Eli stay in control. We once again see the Gunns from the entrance as Jacob decks Kid. Jacob hits a swinging neckbreaker as Ross talks about Kid’s neck injury. Eli tags and almost gets rolled up but beats Kid down and tags out as the Blus’ hit a double shoulder tackle for a two count. Jacob works a nerve hold briefly but Kid fights out and hits a dropkick before making the tag. Razor fires away and hits Jacob with a super back suplex then signals for the Razor’s Edge. Eli runs in and breaks that up with a clothesline that completely whiffed. The match breaks down with Eli accidentally taking Jacob down with a big boot then Eli hits Razor and picks him up for a slam but Kid comes off the top with a missile dropkick and Razor falls on top for the win (11:22) *. Jacob & Eli attack Razor & Kid after the match with Zebekiah even landing a few shots but Razor & Kid end up clearing the ring.

Thoughts: Lousy match with Jacob & Eli completely going through the motions here as they controlled the majority of the match. This would be the final appearance of Jacob & Eli as they quit due to not making enough money and then had an incident with Shawn Michaels at the 10/5 MSG show where he was flipping out and calling them soft for quitting so they had enough of his shit and pinned him against the wall. But the bigger news was the fact Razor & Kid getting a title shot just eight days before the PPV and they came off as lucky to win this match here.

WWF Slam Jam with Dok Hendrix. We see the video from the MSG benefit for underpriviledged and handicapped children then Dok plugs the 11/25 MSG show where the main event is Undertaker challenging the World Champion. Dok plugs the 11/10 Nassau Coliseum show with a main event of Diesel & Shawn Michaels & Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog & King Mabel & Yokozuna. We hear a promo from Shawn Michaels hyping up this match. Dok then tells us Bob Backlund is the special guest referee for the match.  Other matches in Nassau include Razor Ramon vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Goldust vs. Undertaker, and Smoking Gunns defending the Tag Team Titles against Undertaker & Kama. Next Slam Jam segment will tell us about the 11/12 Meadowlands show.

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Tim Knox

Vince puts over Bigelow’s new “WWF Magazine” article about his love of deep sea fishing as we see a clip of him catching a 900lbs tuna, with Bigelow telling us of all the things to get hooked on to get “hooked on fishing.” Bigelow tosses Knox then takes him down with a headbutt. Vince tells Lawler he will be inside of a shark cage during the Bret Hart vs. Isaac Yankem steel cage match on “Monday Night RAW” but Lawler says no one will put him in a cage. Knox lands a few feeble shots but Bigelow fights back and drops him with an enziguiri then puts him away with a flying headbutt as Lawler rants about being clausterphobic and afraid of heights (1:48).

Thoughts: Quick win for Bigelow as they highlighted his love of fishing while hyping the cage match on RAW with a focus on Lawler being in the shark cage hanging above the ring. Its pretty obvious on commentary that Lawler will end up in the shark cage.

Dok is back in the Slam Jam Center to shill the newest Shawn Michaels & Diesel “Two Dudes with Attitudes” t-shirt with a free WWF Classic video for just $20.

A new Ahmed Johnson vignette. He talks, rather screams about honor being watching your mom go to work and make minimum wage and how she gets you a ticket to a WWF show and you pay her back by doing the best you can in school.

Clip of the Smoking Gunns defeating Yokozuna & Owen Hart for the Tag Team Titles three weeks ago on RAW.

Smoking Gunns vs. Scott Stevens & A.C. Conner

Ross shills the Superstar Challenge game as part of the Superstar Line. Conner hits Billy with a side slam then fires away. Billy ducks a clothesline and comes back with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors then works the arm. We now see Kid & Razor scouting from the entrance way as the Gunns work over Conner’s arm with Razor mocking the finger gun taunt. The Gunns stay in control as Ross puts over the team for being tall, big guys. Conner boots Billy then tags out as Lawler makes an O.J. Simpson/A.C. Cowlings joke. Stevens lands a few shots and a slam then drops an elbow for a two count. Billy then makes a blind tag and Stevens turns around and gets slammed by Bart. We see Bart whip Stevens into the corner a few times then hits a vertical suplex as the camera shows Razor & Kid again. The Gunns stay in control then hit the Sidewinder for the win (3:30). After the match, Razor & Kid get closer to the ring and clap then the teams have words for a bit.

Thoughts: More basic hype for the Tag Title match at In Your House.

Hype video for next week’s Kama vs. Undertaker match with Kama’s chain on the line.

We see The Bodydonnas head down the aisle with Sunny admonishing the fans then a graphic hyping Diesel vs. Waylon Mercy for later in the show.

Skip w/ Sunny vs. Sonny Rogers

Rad Radford jogs down the aisle and claps alongside Sunny as Vince says he aspires to be a Bodydonna. Rogers fights back against Skip but gets booted and hit with a gutwrench suplex. Skip slaps hands with Sunny & Radford then hits Rogers with a suplex. Skip pulls up Rogers after a flying leg drop as Vince puts over his abilities inside of the ring. Rogers uses a backslide for a nearfall then a cradle but gets clotheslined as Skip regains control. Ross tells us that Hakushi vs. Dean Douglas will take place next week as the camera shows Sunny on the outside. The announcers hype up the NY area house shows as Skip stays in control then he finally puts him away with a top rope hurricarana (3:45). After the match, Radford celebrates with Skip as the two do jumping jacks and pushups.

Thoughts: Long match for what it was but the story is that Radford is trying to become a Bodydonna so I would assume they want Skip to be in a team as his feud with Horowitz was barely acknowledged.

We see the finish of the six-man tag from RAW between Diesel & Shawn Michaels & Undertaker vs. Yokozuna & British Bulldog & Owen Hart where Bulldog pinned Diesel then the heels, along with Mabel, attacked and laid out the face team.

Waylon Mercy vs. Diesel

The story here is what condition will Diesel be in after getting attacked on RAW. Both men shake hands then get in each other’s faces. Diesel backs Mercy into the corner but Mercy turns it around and slaps Diesel. Mercy hammers away but runs in to a big boot after initially avoiding it by holding the ropes. Ross says he saw Bulldog & Jim Cornette earlier today and wonders if they will make an appearance and right on cue, Bulldog heads down the aisle. Diesel sees Bulldog and runs after him and they fight in the aisle as Diesel gets counted out (1:58). Shawn Michaels and Dean Douglas run out now too as several officials break things up. Diesel runs into the ring and attacks Mercy then lays him out with the Jackknife and starts hammering away as Vince tells us how Diesel has lost it while Shawn restrains his friend. Several officials run in but Diesel goes back after Mercy.

Thoughts: A segment for Diesel to get some heat back after getting beaten down on RAW. This would be Mercy’s final appearance on WWF TV as he quit due to physical pain and not making enough money to make it worth being on the road. His last actual match appeared to be on the Cologne, Germany house show I recapped yesterday.

WWF Slam Jam with Dok Hendrix. We hear from Undertaker & Paul Bearer hyping the match at the Nassau Coliseum house show. Now Dok goes over the 11/12 Meadowlands show that features Smoking Gunns & Savio Vega vs. Sid & Kama & Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Razor Ramon vs. Goldust, and British Bulldog vs. Bret Hart. The main event is Shawn Michaels & Diesel vs. Yokozuna & Owen Hart in a Lumberjack Match.

Shawn Michaels is standing backstage. He is asked to “reflect” on the events of this week. This, of course was taped a week or so ago since the day before this show aired was when Shawn Michaels got attacked at Club 37 in Syracuse, NY. And of course we will see the effects of that incident across WWF programming. Shawn says he doesnt know if he can reflect or if he will make it to “In Your House” but will catch up to Dean Douglas.

Vince will interview Diesel next week in addition to Dean Douglas vs. Hakushi and Undertaker vs. Kama with the chain on the line.

Final Thoughts: Not the best show this week. The featured matches were not good and the rest of the show was lukewarm PPV hype. Next week as two featured matches which I assume will be better as we get closer and closer to In Your House 4.
