WWF Superstars – July 1st, 1995

July 1, 1995

From the Stabler Arena in Bethelem, PA

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Dok Hendrix

The show starts off with the video package on Diesel appearing at the celebrity softball game in Oklahoma to benefit the children who lost parents during the Oklahoma City bombing.

This week, we will get the world premiere of Jeff Jarrett’s “With My Baby Tonight” music video. Plus, the debut of Waylon Mercy, featured match of Adam Bomb vs. Henry O. Godwinn, and the Allied Powers in action.

We go to the announcers were Dok is wearing an American flag shirt using a hibachi to grill hot dogs.

1-2-3 Kid vs. Ken Raper

Raper takes Kid down with a hip toss to start. The announcers talk about Kid making his return at King of the Ring as he ran out to help Razor Ramon. Kid catches Raper with a powerbomb then holds the ropes open for him to get back inside and sits there like an idiot while Raper snaps his neck off of the rope. Kid fights back with some kicks as we learn that Kid will face The Roadie at In Your House 2. Kid stays in control then puts Raper away with the Oklahoma Roll (1:54).

Thoughts: In his first match back from a neck injury we learn that Kid will be facing The Roadie at the next PPV. So it appears that Kid has replaced Savio Vega as Razor’s partner in that feud.

WWF Live Event News with Stephanie Wiand. We get the card for the 8/12 MSG show and its as follows: Diesel & Shawn Michaels vs. Jeff Jarrett & Psycho Sid. Wiand says that Tatanka was supposed to team with Sid but the story is Jarrett went to DiBiase and wanted to take his place because of how pissed he was at Shawn’s attack on RAW. Tatanka will now face Bam Bam Bigelow, whose stock as a face continues to plummet. Wiand will give us more details on this card later on in the show. Well, one of those announced matches will take place at least.

We see Godwinn prepare his slop bucket backstage in preparation for his match against Adam Bomb. Godwinn then swigs from it before the break.

Kama w/ Ted DiBiase vs. Jason Arhndt

Barry Didinsky, along with two kids, are modeling shirts for Shawn Michaels, Bigelow, and Bomb. The creatures of the night are sitting front row in the aisle where Kama yells at them after slapping down the black wreath. Kama decks Arhndt in the ribs but gets faked out and Arhndt fights back. Arhndt knocks down Kama but the ref holds his arm back as Kama was in the ropes and that allows Kama to land a cheap shot. The announcers talk about Kama costing Undertaker his match at King of the Ring as Kama hits a Vader Bomb for the win (1:26). Kama then heads right out to the aisle and gets in the faces of the Creatures.

Thoughts: Now with King of the Ring out of the way we are back to the Kama/Undertaker feud, which has been mild from the start and not getting more exciting.

Vince narrates a package of still photos from the Kiss My Foot match that is followed by the segment on RAW with Lawler at the office of his dentist, Dr. Isaac Yankem D.D.S.

A video package on RAW that lead to Shawn/Jarrett being announced for In Your House 2. We then get the footage we missed when RAW ended as Jarrett tossed the IC Title belt at Shawn then demanded a match against Shawn as he was backing out of the ring. Jarrett & Roadie also tried a sneak attack that failed.

The “With My Baby Tonight” video airs. Its a full length video to boot. It is what it is but not the worst thing I’ve ever heard.

We now get a video package on the WWF involvement with the Special Olympics.

Allied Powers vs. Billy Mack & Lloyd Anoai

We learn that the Powers will face Yokozuna & Owen Hart for the Lloyd’s last name is spelled “Lanui” here. Vince talks up some house shows including a Bigelow vs. King Kong Bundy match in White Plains, NY. The Powers work over Anoai to start. We see Owen Hart & Yokozuna with JIm Cornette watching from in front of the video wall. Bulldog now hits Mack with a delayed vertical suplex then Luger hits a running forearm for the win (2:10).

Thoughts: An easy win for the Powers as they will be challenging for the titles at the next PPV.

We get the video package on the Hall of Fame inductions.

The WWF Hall of Fame video airs. Really good stuff I thought.

Our guest ring announcer is some kid named Scott Burdette.

Waylon Mercy vs. Bill Weaver

Mercy shakes hands with Weaver and the ref as Vince doesn’t trust him. Mercy boots Weaver through the ropes after a quick commercial break. Mercy then drops Weaver with a clothesline then a right hand before slamming his face off the mat. Vince shills the Superstar Line and Jim Ross on option 6 for some inside scoops as Mercy beats the crap out of Weaver in the corner. Weaver fights back after Mercy was yelling at the ref but Mercy drops Weaver then puts on a sleeper for the win with quite the disturbed look on his face (2:17). After the match, Mercy shakes the ref’s hand before leaving.

Thoughts: The Mercy gimmick is cool but he is just not in any sort of shape to work a full length match. They hid it the best he could here but I don’t even think he could run at this point. I did like the camera shot when he had the sleeper on as he looked like a complete maniac but if Spivey was able to go here this really could have caught on big.

WWF Live Event News with Stephanie Wiand. More news on the 8/12 MSG show as Bigelow vs. Tatanka is now an “Indian Strap Match.” Other matches include: Razor Ramon vs. Mabel and Allied Powers vs. Jacob & Eli Blu which would be for the titles if the Powers win at In Your House 2. Wiand then promises next time we will get details on Bret’s return to MSG. Again, only one of those announced matches took place.

An ad for next week’s Men on a Mission vs. Smoking Gunns match.

Adam Bomb vs. Henry O. Godwinn

The match is joined in progress after commercial. Bomb clotheslines Godwinn then heads out and wins a slugfest but gets whipped into the steps and the match ruled a double count out (0:36). Godwinn then takes his bucket and dumps it on Bomb. Godwinn yells at the fans while heading up the aisle then Bomb gets up and screams “I’ll kill you!” before going through the curtain.

Thoughts: Looks like we are going for a Bomb/Godwinn feud which is fine for the midcard and gives both guys something to do at least. This is also the first time we see the slop bucket I believe and the bucket itself was highlighted on commentary as well as the segment at the beginning of the show.

Back from commercial, we learn that Adam Bomb was running through backstage trying to find Godwinn. We get a firework display to end to signal the beginning of 4th of July weekend.

Final Thoughts: We learned of two more matches for the PPV as they are not wasting any time building things up. The featured match was a tease to start a feud but next week we get a tag match with an easy winner to predict.
