Thursday Night EVENT CENTER: April 8, 2021 (Impact, Indies, and Insanity)

Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the Event Center here at the Blog of Doom.  It’s WrestleMania week, and that means the wrestling world is converging on one location — this year, it’s Tampa, Florida.  Both IWTV and FITE are bringing you a long line of wrestling from the hottest talents under the radar in case you cannot make the trip.

But first: Impact Wrestling returns to its traditional Thursday home tonight.  Highlighting the show is a six-man tag team main event, as Impact mainstays Willie Mack, Eddie Edwards, and champion Rich Swann take on AEW Champion Kenny Omega alongside his henchmen Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson.  Remember that in 16 days, Swann and Omega will have a title-for-title match at Impact’s Rebellion event.

In addition, six women will square off in teams of three as Jordynne Grace, Havok, and Rosemary face off against Tenille Dashwood, Nevaeh, and Alisha.  Given that Nevaeh called off her team with Havok last week, one has to wonder what their focus will be.  Meanwhile, XXXL will go at it in tag team action against Sami Callihan and a mystery partner, while longtime Impact veteran Chris Sabin faces Cody Deaner.

After the jump, we’ll run down the long list of independent shows going on this weekend as part of WrestleMania.

Events around Tampa have been going on since yesterday, but still to come are the following, all of which can be watched live on either IWTV or FITE.  All times local, meaning US Eastern.

  • Currently in progress on IWTV is AIW’s first ever Go For Broke episode.  At press time, no matches had been announced, but the concept was that winners would receive points known as Biggins Bucks that would lead to their signature Chandler Biggins Memorial Tournament later in the year.
  • Josh Barnett is hosting Bloodsport 6 on FITE.  Among the big matchups are Barnett against Jon Moxley, Rocky Romero vs Chavo Guerrero Jr, KTB vs Davey Boy Smith Jr, and matches featuring Simon Grimm, Allysin Kay, and Lio Rush.  Action begins tonight at 8.
  • On IWTV starting at 8 is No Holds Barred Volume 11 from ICW.  Jon Davis faces Dominic Garrini, Dan Maff goes one-on-one with Calvin Tankman, and in the main event, the three Rejects take on the Carnage Crew and their partner making a one-night-only return, New Jack.
  • Over on FITE at midnight, you can see For The Culture, highlighting some of the best wrestlers of color on the independent scene.  Independent champion Lee Moriarty faces Lio Rush, Fire and Flava take on Brooke Valentin and Willow Nightingale, and in the main event, a non-title affair sees Impact champion Rich Swann battle 2 Cold Scorpio.
  • At the same time on IWTV is No Peace Underground running MurderMania.  Ace Austin has a non-title match with Jamie Senegal, Jake Something battles Tony Deppen, and in the main event, the legendary deathmatch fighter Mad Man Pondo will take on Casanova Valentine.
  • Tomorrow at 11AM, FITE gives us a show called Real Hot Girl Sh*t.  Tasha Steelz battles Trish Adora, Allie Kat goes one-on-one with Billie Starkz, and in the main event Allysin Kay battles Jordynne Grace.  Plus, if you’re into that sort of thing, the men will open the show in a Gray Sweatpants Battle Royal.
  • Southern Underground Pro and ACTION Wrestling combine on IWTV tomorrow at noon for Have Fun, Be Sad.  Myron Reed and AC Mack collide, ACTION champion Arik Royal has a non-title match with Daniel Makabe, AJ Gray puts the SUP title on the line against JD Drake, and in the main event, Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku take on Impact tag champions Juice Robinson and David Finlay IV in non-title action.
  • Tomorrow at 4 on IWTV, Freelance Wrestling takes the stage with Chicago’s Secret Stash.  Robert Anthony defends the title against Storm Grayson, while on the undercard, Trevor Outlaw finds himself having to solve the enigma known as EFFY.
  • As soon as that’s done, IWTV will switch to Matt Tremont’s Hardcore Hustle Organization for Subterranean Violence Vol. 9.  While most of the action is of the simple no-DQ variety, Marc Angel and Drew Blood will go at it in a Devil’s Bullrope match to settle the score.
  • Tomorrow at 8 on FITE, Spring Break is upon us, though this year Joey Janela has ceded control of the event to Ricky Shane Page.  Page will defend the GCW title against Nick Gage in the main event, while Janela faces Chris Dickinson, two champions collide when Impact’s Rich Swann faces IWTV champ Lee Moriarty, and Lio Rush brings the Blackheart back against Jordan Oliver.
  • Starting at 8 with part 1 and continuing at midnight with part 2 is ICW’s Battle of the Tough Guys tournament.  It’s a special 16-man, two-show, four-round event featuring names such as JD Drake, Dominic Garrini, John Wayne Murdoch, Gary Jay, Brett Ison, and many more battling it out in the pit.  The action can be found on IWTV for both halves.
  • FITE at midnight tomorrow will present VXS’s Lucid Dreams card.  Lio Rush battles Low-Ki in the main event, while Daniel Garcia and AJ Gray collide in a Pure Rules match.  Also on the show, JTG battles Kaiju master Dr. Cube in a no disqualification affair.
  • Saturday morning, whet your appetite for WrestleMania with two wrestler-produced shows.  First it’s EFFY’s Big Gay Brunch on FITE at 11AM as the man himself faces Ace Perry in a Soul on a Pole Match, while AJ Gray and Billy Dixon collide on the undercard.
  • Meanwhile at noon on IWTV, Tony Deppen steps up to run Bier Haus.  While Deppen himself isn’t on the card, we do have JD Drake, Ace Austin, Myron Reed, Simon Grimm, and many others announced as being in action for this show.
  • GCW is running Planet Death Saturday at 3PM in tribute to the deathmatch viking Danny Havok, who lost his life in 2020.  Alex Colon and the Neo Shooter Lucky 13 will be the main event with a specific tribute match planned, while Matthew Justice hopes to survive Mad Man Pondo.
  • IWTV gives Beyond the floor at 4PM Saturday with Time Capsule.  While not all matches have been announced, Beyond has made clear that some of their best former stars such as Ricky Shane Page, Jaka, and the Boys from Jollyville will be there, and we also know that Dan Barry, Gary Jay, Allysin Kay, and more will be in action.
  • If WrestleMania Night 1 isn’t your thing, stick with FITE for Unsanctioned Pro’s Fueled By Spite.  Everett Cross defends the god against Aaron Williams, while Myron Reed battles Tre LaMar on the undercard.
  • Or, go to IWTV and more ICW, this time with Volume 12: Farewell to the Pawn Shop.  John Wayne Murdock battles longtime foe Eric Ryan, Dan Maff steps in against Nolan Edward, plus action from some of the deathmatch scene’s up and comers.
  • And if you still have way too much energy on Saturday Night (somehow), No Peace Underground closes it off Saturday at midnight with Shallow Graves.  Though much of the card has yet to be announced, we do know that Mance Warner and Su Yung will take part.

Thank you for sitting through the longest Event Center of the year.  We now return you to action in the ring as AEW and Ring of Honor collide: Freshly Squeezed Orange Cassidy battles the Foundation’s Jon Gresham in singles competition.

(Bring the insanity.)
