Friday Night Get-Down: March 12, 2021

Tonight!  Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan make it official at Fastlane — a PPV that promises to be one of the many PPVs of all time.  In addition, Kevin Owens will try to stir the pot between Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair with his all-too-self-aware talk show, because somehow it’s March and they don’t know what to do with Kevin Owens.  Plus, Big E is back as we see if Apollo “Uhaa” Crews’s change of attitude (and personality) has the fun-loving IC champ’s attention in a feud poised on a knife-edge — it could be great, or it could go to hell.

No, I’m not taking bets either.

At last check, there will be SIX women’s matches on the first episode of AEW Elevation on Monday.  It appears Tony Khan heard the complaints about the lack of women’s action and is at least trying to take the first steps to fixing it.  Hey, YouTube is free, and free matches mean more exposure…. or something.  Whatever it is, I’m reviewing it.  I fully anticipate no one will read it because we’ll all be torturing ourselves with Raw instead.  Wrestling fans are WEIRD, yo.

Fun news for my boys at CRAB, as they’re going to try to run Tampa after last year’s event got called off.  (No, I won’t be there, but I wish them luck.)  And as it’s Mania week, they’re getting bigger names for the show — Rhett Titus is going to be on it!  Woohoo!  I hope they make the big buxx to get more shows!

Word life, this is basic Bidenomics — I get paid Wednesday!

It’s the road to Mania, so our Match of the Night comes from a very underrated PPV, WrestleMania 21.  The two kingmaking performances would be done better down the line (seriously, check out the Judgment Day I Quit match Cena and JBL have and realize there’s a reason everyone loved Cena before they hated him), but with the intro of the Money in the Bank Ladder Match and Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle, there’s good wrestling all over the place.  We also got Steve Austin and Roddy Piper in a verbal war and Hulk Hogan getting what we all assumed at the time was his last Mania moment.  But it began with tag team champions meeting each other one on one as Eddie Guerrero, worried he was being passed by in the lucha pantheon, challenged Rey Mysterio.  Rey was still adjusting to a new mask design (warning ahead of time for those easily distracted), but the match was still good stuff.  Enjoy.

All right, folks, we went over the rules in the back.  I want you to obey the mod’s instructions at all times.  I expect a good clean thread.  Now, touch gloves, go to your keyboards, and come out posting!
