What the World Was Watching: ECW Hardcore TV – June 20, 1995

Joey Styles quickly recaps the Tony Stetson-New Jersey Devil, Mikey Whipwreck-Val Puccio, and Vampire Warrior-Hack Myers matches from Barbed Wire, Hoodies & Chokeslams, along with Tod Gordon’s run-ins with Bill Alfonso on the show and Steve Richards creating problems between the Warrior and Tommy Dreamer over Luna Vachon.

Styles urges fans to buy a VHS copy of Barbed Wire, Hoodies & Chokeslams because the barbed wire match between the Sandman and Cactus Jack cannot air on television.

A replay of the Luna Vachon-Beulah McGillicutty match from Barbed Wire, Hoodies & Chokeslams is shown, along with the post-match beatdown by Raven and Steve Richards.

ECW Fan Cam catches up with Raven, Richards, and McGillicutty backstage.  Raven gloats about being a step closer to revenge against Tommy Dreamer after he broke his fingers.  He jokes that he can feel Dreamer and Vachon’s pain.

A replay of the six-man tag at Barbed Wire, Hoodies & Chokeslams between 2 Cold Scorpio & Taz against Raven & the Pitbulls airs.  In a piece of footage that was not on the VHS release, Scorpio argues with Taz and Paul E. Dangerously and nails Dangerously.  Styles is unclear what they were arguing over, but it can be inferred from the match that Scorpio was not happy that Taz picked up one of the Pitbulls before Scorpio could hit the Tumbleweed.  When Scorpio tries to sucker punch Taz, his effort fails and Taz lays out Scorpio with a Tazplex.

The attempted Bad Breed reunion at Barbed Wire, Hoodies & Chokeslams airs, along with the Gangstas debut attack on the Public Enemy.

The Last Word:  Since Hardcore Heaven ’95 is scheduled for July 1, ECW was able to use this show to run through most of what happened at Barbed Wire, Hoodies & Chokeslams.  This was a good recap of the midcard angles and Taz-Scorpio has the potential to be a good feud.

Backstage News*:        ECW is hoping to draw a record crowd to the ECW Arena for Hardcore Heaven ’95 on July 1 because it is right on the heels of a wrestling internet convention.  Terry Funk was originally scheduled to wrestle Cactus Jack on the card but that is being switched to the Sandman facing Jack in a match where the Singapore cane is legal, and Jack can wrap his arms in barbed wire.  Funk was removed from the card because he is not in good physical shape and is taking time off before IWA-Japan starts touring on August 9.

*ECW will be doing another Florida swing in late July, visiting Fort Lauderdale on Jule 20, Tampa on July 21, and Orlando on July 22.  Fort Lauderdale might feature the first Chris Benoit vs. Eddie Guerrero match as Benoit, Guerrero, and Dean Malenko are booked for all three cards.

*In talent relations news, British wrestler Johnny Smith might be coming into the promotion.  ECW is also expecting Shane Douglas to depart for the WWF sometime in the near future.
