WWF Monday Night RAW – May 1st, 1995

May 1, 1995

From the Omaha Civic Center in Omaha, NE

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Jerry “The King” Lawler

The show starts off with clips from last week’s Diesel vs. Bam Bam Bigelow title match. Vince brings up how it was the most viewed RAW.

We cut to the hosts as Lawler holds up a contract for a match with Bret Hart as Vince says that Bret will be here tonight.

Allied Powers vs. George Anderson & Ron Hagan

The announcers talk about the Intercontinental Title being vacant after Jeff Jarrett vs. Bob Holly on “Action Zone” and the rematch this coming Sunday. Vince also wishes 1-2-3 Kid a speedy recovery from his neck injury. Luger works over Anderson to start. Hagan tags and goes after Bulldog but is whipped into the corner and hit with a back suplex. Lawler makes dumb jokes about the enhancement talent as the Powers stay in control then Bulldog hits Anderson with a running powerslam for the win (2:40).

Thoughts: Not much going on here as the announcers mostly talked about the Jarrett/Holly angle on “Action Zone” and Kid’s injury more than building up the Allied Powers as a team.

Highlights from Jarrett vs. Holly on Action Zone as we saw what led to President Jack Tunney vacating the title and ordering a rematch.

Bob “Spark Plugg”Holly vs. Butler Stevens

Stevens mocks Holly and takes him down with an arm drag. Stevens misses a charge then gets slammed as Lawler does not believe what happened to Jarrett was fair. Vince now talks about Razor being angry over what happened to Kid as Holly stays in control. Vince says we will find out Razor’s replacement partner for his In Your House match against Jarrett & Roadie. Stevens rakes the eyes of Holly and hammers away in the corner but Holly comes back with a clothesline then fires up the crowd. Holly now connects with a dropkick then goes up top with a flying body press for the win (2:47).

Thoughts: A win to build up Holly for his rematch against Jarrett and a tease for the reveal of Razor’s partner at In Your House.

In Your House Report with Todd Pettengill. We learn that Razor will now be taking on Jarrett & Roadie by himself in a handicap match. Pettengill plugs the Superstar Line and how you can hear Razor’s interview with Jim Ross. So, after all that hype since the show began we now learn Razor will face Jarrett & Roadie in a handicap match.

We see Razor warming up backstage for his match against Sid.

Next week, we get Owen Hart vs. Bart Gunn and Jeff Jarrett vs. Doink.

Mantaur w/ Jim Cornette vs. Sonny Rogers

Mantaur drives Rogers into the corner then tosses him around. He hammers away but misses a charge in the corner and Rogers rolls him up for a two count. Vince talks about Bigelow and how the rest of The Corporation conspired to have him lose last week. Mantaur goes back to beating on Rogers as we learn that Bigelow will speak next week as Lawler once again talks about Bret ducking his challenge. Vince says that “WWF Mania” will broadcast from the house that is being given away on In Your House as Mantaur hits a front falling slam for the win (2:24).

Thoughts: A win to give Mantaur some momentum heading into his match against Bret on “Action Zone.” We also heard talk about Bigelow and The Corporation plus news that Mania will broadcast from the house that will be given away during the PPV.

The interrogation ad with Man Mountain Rock airs. Between the constant airing of this and the new video with Rock playing in front of a speaker wall it seems they are re-pushing this gimmick.

Sid w/ Ted DiBiase vs. Razor Ramon

Sid attacks Razor during Razor’s fireworks and hits a pair of powerbombs. Sid is about to hit another powerbomb but Diesel runs out for the save as Sid bails and leaves with DiBiase. Vince wonders if Sid is running away or has a plan to lure Diesel.

Thoughts: So after all the hype and hype for Razor’s partner at IYH, he was used to add heat to Sid vs. Diesel as they want Sid to be an unstoppable monster heading into the PPV. I don’t know why Razor was sacrificed for this but the angle did not do anything at all for me.

We return and see the replay of Sid’s attack as Vince hopes for an update on Razor’s condition later on in the show.

Adam Bomb vs. Dave Sigfrid

Sigfrid works the arm to start. Bomb reverses as the announcers talk about Bomb vs. Mabel at In Your House. Bomb now hits a suplex then works a side headlock on the mat. Lawler wants Bret to show up as Vince promises he will be here. Bomb drops Sigfrid with a clothesline as Lawler makes fun of Helen Hart. Bomb eats boot on a charge in the corner but rolls through a crossbody and gets a two count. Bomb goes back to the side headlock as Vince sells Sid’s attack on Razor. Sigfrid whiffs on a dropkick then Bomb pumps up the crowd before running wild then uses a flying clothesline for the win (3:40). Bomb then throws his “bomb”s into the crowd.

Thoughts: A long dull squash match that saw hype for Bomb vs. Mabel on the PPV and a backdrop for Lawler to continue his trash talk against Bret.

Raymond Rougeau is backstage in the locker room. We see Razor with his head down and hand over his head as Diesel talks to him. Rougeau says that Razor is not in any condition to speak and turns to referee Dave Hebner, who says nothing of note, while Rougeau asks if Sid can be stopped. Riveting segment.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley once again refuses to speak as this time he does not think we are listening.

Men on a Mission vs. Kevin Kruger & Bill Duke

Mabel & Mo rapped so poorly here I was clamoring for Oscar. Mabel overpowers Kruger but misses a sit down splash. Kruger uses some crappy offense that even Vince makes fun of before tagging out. MoM beats on Duke in their corner as Lawler makes fun of Oscar. Kruger tags in and hits Mo with a crossbody for two. Duke is back then and gets elbowed then hit with a DDT as Mo pulls him up after a two count. Mo now works a chin lock on the mat as Vince wants Mo disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct. MoM stay in control then Mabel hits Duke with a belly-to-belly suplex for the win (4:34).

Thoughts: Man, the MoM heel act here is the shits. Just as corny too. Anyway, another long and painful to watch squash match as heel Mabel seems in line for an actual push.

Vince says that we will get a further update on Razor’s condition next week.

Bret now comes out to ringside as Vince says we will get to the bottom of Lawler’s accusations. Bret gets a favorable reaction from the crowd. Vince asks Bret about Lawler’s claims of him signing a match against Hakushi to avoid facing him in a match. Bret says that Lawler is a liar, something everyone knows, and will wrestle and even beat Hakushi at In Your House. Lawler calls Bret “spineless” but Bret cuts him off and says after he beats Hakushi, he will accept Lawler’s challenge and beat him at In Your House. Bret then says that Lawler’s house will never be the same and after he is done, Lawler will go straight to the outhouse. God, what a corny line. Bret leaves then we see Lawler laugh as the show goes off the air.

Final Thoughts: We got more news about In Your House but man what a lousy show. The action stunk and the big angle was nothing special whatsoever. Next week we get two featured bouts that are more of what you would see on “Superstars” than RAW as we keep getting closer to the Inaugural In Your House PPV.
