What the World Was Watching: Smoky Mountain TV – May 27, 1995

A replay of the Boo Bradley-Killer Kyle Jersey Dog Fight match at Volunteer Slam airs.

The PG-13-THUGS match for the USWA Tag Team Championship, which took place at Volunteer Slam, is shown.

Poor editing shows a camera guy going “Take one!” and walking away before the audience sees Chip Kessler interview USWA Tag Team Champions PG-13 and USWA promoter Randy Hales.  Hales said that the THUGS cheated so it was correct for PG-13 to retain the titles.  The Gangstas quickly interrupt and a brawl between the two teams erupts, which is soon joined by the THUGS.

A replay of the Ricky Morton-Al Snow scaffold match from Volunteer Slam airs, along with the post-match antics where the Dynamic Duo hung Morton.

The Duo cut a post-match promo where they say that their tactics are unpredictable and the Rock N’ Roll Express cannot catch up to them.

Kessler interviews the Rock N’ Roll Express after the Volunteer Slam scaffold match.  Ricky Morton puts over how there is no team that can defeat the Express over the long-term and states his desire to get another match against the Duo and he does not care what the stipulation is.

Jim Cornette’s turn on Bob Armstrong at Volunteer Slam takes place.

Kessler conducts a post-match interview with Cornette, SMW Champion Buddy Landel, Terry Funk, and the Punisher.  Cornette says he has longed to get revenge on Armstrong since the previous Thanksgiving.  He introduces the Punisher to SMW fans, promising the people are going to find out what he is all about in the weeks ahead.

The Last Word:  For fans that did not attend SMW’s big events – and by the attendance figures it was a lot of them – this show helped to catch them up on what took place the previous weekend.  It also featured a host of specialty matches that SMW television did not usually air.  The prospect of a PG-13-Gangstas-THUGS feud is interesting, although it would mean more if the Gangstas or THUGS held the promotion’s tag team titles.

SMW ran a couple of shows near the weekend in the Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Tennessee areas.  Here are the results of those shows, courtesy of prowrestlinghistory.com:

Harlan, Kentucky – Caywood High School Gym – May 26, 1995 (150):  Boo Bradley pinned Killer Kyle…The THUGS beat the Gangstas…Steve Armstrong beat SMW Champion Buddy Landel via disqualification…The Rock N’ Roll Express wrestled SMW Tag Team Champions the Dynamic Duo to a double disqualification.

Morristown, Tennessee – Talley Ward Rec. Center – May 27, 1995 (450):  Bobby Blayze beat Killer Kyle in a falls count anywhere match…SMW Champion Buddy Landel pinned Steve Armstrong…The Gangstas & D’Lo Brown defeated the THUGS & Boo Bradley in an elimination match…the Rock N’ Roll Express wrestled SMW Tag Team Champions the Dynamic Duo to a double disqualification.
