WWF Wrestling Challenge – April 16th, 1995

April 16, 1995

From the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, MA

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Ted DiBiase

This week in action are 1-2-3 Kid, Kama, Duke Droese, and more! Gorilla also breaks the news that Diesel vs. Psycho Sid for the World Heavyweight Title has officially been signed for the In Your House PPV. Shocked that Challenge would break the news of a PPV main event and how it would happen to start the show.

Jeff Jarrett w/ The Roadie vs. Scott Taylor

DiBiase talks about how he has a major surprise coming up soon. The announcers talk about Aldo Montoya beating Jeff Jarrett last week in a non-title match. Jarrett beats on Taylor in the corner to start. Taylor avoids an elbow smash then gets caught in a swinging neckbreaker after a reversal sequence. Jarrett now puts Taylor in a Boston Crab and uses Roadie for leverage. The ref stops Jarrett and Taylor rolls him up from behind for a two count. Jarrett beats on Taylor and struts around before hitting a snap suplex. Jarrett then yells at the ref as DiBiase says that Julia Roberts is looking to date Jarrett, who flexes into the camera. Jarrett cuts off Taylor’s comeback attempt but struts around after thinking he tossed Taylor outside. Jarrett is then able to duck a flying body press and puts on a figure-four and gets the win (3:36).

Thoughts: Jarrett was acting extra arrogant and cocky while dismissing Taylor as we saw it almost cost him a few times, which plays to the story of him being overconfident heading into his title defense against Aldo Montoya. We also heard DiBiase mention a surprise for later on in the show.

A recap of RAW from two weeks ago where Sid attacked Shawn Michaels until Diesel made the save is shown.

An ad for the In Your House PPV airs.

Aldo Montoya vs. Mark Starr

We are shown a fan holding an “Aldo Montoya #1” sign at ringside. Of all the planted signs for an audience member to hold. Montoya dropkicks Starr outside then flies out with a pescado. DiBiase taunts Gorilla over his surprise but when asked by Gorilla, said he did not fire Bam Bam Bigelow. Starr fights back and hits a shoulder breaker but Montoya comes back with a flying forearm before firing away. DiBiase assures that Bigelow is still part of The Corporation as Montoya uses a flying bulldog for the win (1:51).

Thoughts: A quick win to set up Montoya for his match against Jarrett next week on Superstars. We also heard DiBiase talk about Bigelow, assuring us that he has not been fired.

The Bob Backlund at Spring Break vignette is shown.

We are shown Men on a Mission attacking the Smoking Gunns three weeks ago as they will be wrestling next.

Men on a Mission vs. Charlie Hunter & John Sinowski

Sinowksi tries to work the arm of Mo to start but gets caught in a press slam. The announcers talk about the Tag Team Title match this coming night on RAW then discuss the Allied Powers. Mabel tags and spikes Sinowski with a piledriver as Gorilla plugs Allied Powers vs. Heavenly Bodies on Action Zone. Hunter tags in and Mabel back drops him then roughs him up in the corner. Mabel then hits a belly-to-belly suplex and gets the win (2:37). DiBiase says that MoM looked great as Gorilla points out their mean streak. DiBiase then refuses to disclose his surprise.

Thoughts: Another squash win where MoM shows their mean streak and will take that into their feud with the Gunns.

The WWF “100% Naturally Good” ad airs.

We once again see the debut Hunter Hearst Helmsley vignette.

1-2-3 Kid vs. Barry Horowitz

Gorilla talks about Kid & Holly getting a title shot on RAW. Kid and Horowitz end in a stalemate after some mat work. DiBiase says its close to surprise time after saying Diesel has little chance of defeating Sid. Kid catches Horowitz with a hip toss but Horowitz slows things down with a side headlock. The crowd chants for Kid then we see Kid run Horowitz through the ropes. Horowitz tries to slingshot back inside with a sunset flip but Kid moves out of the way and covers for two. Horowitz retaliates with a back suplex then a bridging wrist lock suplex for two but whiffs on a clothesline and Kid drills him with a spinning heel kick for the win (2:50). DiBiase then leaves and says when he comes back we will have seen the surprise.

Thoughts: A fun little squash match as it gives Kid a showcase heading into the Tag Team Title match on RAW. We also have DiBiase tease his surprise that will apparently happen very soon.

In Your House Report with Stephanie Wiand. Odd to not have Pettengill do this report as he is much better in this role. We hear Wiand tell us this show will be as popular as WrestleMania at half the price of $14.95. We once again hear that Diesel vs. Sid for the Title will take place on the show. Wiand also adds that Shawn has been talking to Diesel. Wiand then says for the very first In Your House the company is giving away a dream vacation house in Orlando, FL. The winner will be drawn live on PPV. More matches on the show will be announced in the coming weeks. The main thing here is learning of the price point and the winner of the house will be announced live on the PPV.

Kama w/ Ted DiBiase vs. John Crystal

Crystal works the arm until Kama takes him down. Gorilla promises some exclusive photos of Alundra Blayze’s surgery as Kama now works the arm of Crystal. Kama runs Crystal into the post as Crystal spills outside. Kama rolls Crystal back into the ring and hammers away. Kama uses a few submissions then a belly-to-belly suplex gets the win (2:05).

Thoughts: An easy win for Kama as we will also get to see the photos of Blayze after her surgery.

Now, DiBiase grabs the mic. He tells us to take a look at Kama and how he is a shining example of the New Generation. He then talks about reorganizing and restructuring The Corporation. DiBiase introduces Tatanka, King Kong Bundy, IRS, and Bam Bam Bigelow. Gorilla notes how Nikolai Volkoff is not there. DiBiase then brings out his newest member, the man who put Diesel’s best buddy Shawn Michaels on the shelf, and that is Sid. DiBiase refers to Sid as his “crowning jewel.” We see all of The Corporation members, besides Bigelow, celebrate with Sid and even lift him on their shoulders. Sid is then shown looking and laughing into the camera before giving us some intense facial expressions with the camera zooming in closer on his face as he talks about not wanting to be called psycho. Sid is now DiBiase’s big reveal. DiBiase said he would have offered Shawn Michaels a spot had he captured the gold at WrestleMania and is now going to use Sid to try and win the belt. And they made it a point to show Bigelow by himself during the celebration.

The interrogation ad with Nicholas Turturro and Man Mountain Rock airs. A bit odd this would air after WrestleMania sincve Turturro is not around but its not like this was a WrestleMania specific segment.

Back from commercial and we see the hosts. DiBiase says that the WWF World Heavyweight Title will be his after In Your House then says that Sid is not psycho as Gorilla objects.

Alundra Blayze’s post-op surgery photos while recovering at home are shown. DiBiase makes fun of the house and Blayze’s mom for also not being attractive. He then laughs and says Diesel will look like this once Sid gets through with him at In Your House.

Duke “The Dumpster” Droese vs. Mike Khoury

Droese tosses Khoury down as Gorlla asks DiBiase how he can control Sid. DiBiase then becomes angry and warns Gorilla not to refer to Sid as a “psycho.” Khoury staggers Droese with a dropkick then lands some kicks in the corner. Droese then uses a back drop to regain control as Gorilla asks DiBiase what happened to Volkoff. DiBiase says that “time is money” and Volkoff was wasting his time. Khoury uses a jawbreaker but Droese comes back with a hip toss then an elbow drop. Droese then says its time to take out the trash and uses the Trash Compactor for the win (2:30).

Thoughts: DiBiase talks up Sid and we learn that Volkoff is gone from The Corporation as this was how he was written off TV.

Next week in action are Hakushi, Bob Holly, Jean Pierre Lafitte, Owen Hart & Yokozuna, plus an interview with Diesel.

Final Thoughts: A newsworthy show as we learned the In Your House main event and saw that Sid is now part of The Corporation.
