The ESSENTIAL Thursday Night Thread: July 23, 2020

Baseball is back!  Yankees vs Nationals!  Let’s get some normal life back and be able to set aside our worries so… oh hell Juan Soto is out with Covid.  Well done, MLB.

DATELINE: WWE gives up on Boston for SummerSlam.  They haven’t said “It’ll be a PC show” yet.  I don’t blame them for holding out hope, but… eh.

DATELINE: Adam Cole and Pat McAfee swear at each other on the radio.  If McAfee pulls a Kevin Greene and actually becomes good at this wrestling thing, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

DATELINE: AEW outdoes NXT in the ratings.  As it should.

DATELINE: AEW Dark next week is an economy-size episode.  Twelve matches, including four Feature Bouts!  Dark Order 3 and 4 (Silver/Reynolds) face the Best Friends, Serpentico (the real one) battles Orange Cassidy, FTR take on The Initiative (oh, they gave Cutler and Avalon a team name), and a three-way tag main of Private Party, Proud’n’Powerful, and SCU!

And now, here it… wait!  We have an indie show this weekend!

So while there are many parts of the country that should not be holding shows at all, and others that should just be recording them instead of inviting fans (DC probably falls into the latter), Atlantic City NJ is willing to give it a shot with a big three-show two-day event.

  • GCW Homecoming Part 1 is Saturday night!  The dirty daddy Chris Dickinson faces Mance Warner!  Rickey Shane Page puts the GCW title on the line against Homicide!  And the DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Title will be defended as Joey Janela challenges YOSHIHIKO!  (I can think of at least three jokes about this match.)
  • Sunday afternoon sees Beyond putting on Two Weeks’ Notice!  RSP is back and challenging WARHORSE for the IWTV Title!  Intergender action sees Willow Nightingale face El Presidente Pinkie Sanchez!  Lee Moriaty takes on Wheeler YUTA!  And Team Beyond (Dickinson/Gage/Deppen) face off against Team Midwest (Matt Justice, Mance Warner, Steve Manders)!
  • Then GCW Homecoming Part 2 gets underway!  It’s the return of ACH to the indies!  Alex Colon takes on the Rascal Zack Wentz in a deathmatch!  Chris Dickinson completes the trifecta facing Calvin Tankman!  And more!

And now, your Indie Match of the Week for your Moment of Zen: OVW star Beth Phoenix faces Ring of Honor standout Sumie Sakai!

Bring the insanity!
