March 5, 1995
Your hosts are Jim Ross and Todd Pettengill
This week’s featured match is Hakushi vs. Bob Holly
Bob “Spark Plugg”Holly vs. Hakushi w/ Shinja
Pettengill says he can smell the Jimmy Dean sausage all over Ross. Pettengill then says Holly is the Deion Sanders of the WWF due to his dual-sport status as Ross reminds us how Hakushi is undefeated. Hakushi uses a throat thrust but Holly comes back with a dropkick then an arm drag. Holly whips Hakushi to the ropes but Hakushi ends up sliding outside and takes a breather. Hakushi drills Holly with a thrust kick after a cartwheel in a sequence that seemed off by quite a bit as Holly just stood there watching Hakushi until he got kicked. Hakushi cuts off a comeback but Holly eventually fights back. Holly hits a knee drop then runs wild before applying a chin lock. We then hear Ross bring up Lawler’s accusations of Bret Hart being racist towards the Japanese as Hakushi escapes and hits a knee drop for two. We get a “Sparky” chant as Holly fights back. Holly gets a two count with a clothesline but Shinja jumps up onto the apron for the distraction, allowing Hakushi to attack. We go to break and return with Hakushi hitting a backbreaker. Hakushi now drives his knee into the back of Holly repeatedly then uses a Vader Bomb for a two count. Hakushi tosses Holly outside then flies out with a pescado. Hakushi hits a gordbuster as Ross puts him over. Hakushi uses some chops and kicks but eats boot on a charge in the corner. Holly comes back with a clothesline then fires away. Holly hits a dropkick for two as Pettengill yells for the fans to get back from the concession stands and watch the match. That’s quite the thing to say during your featured match. Holly hits a flying body press for two as Shinja distracted the ref. Holly then tries for a rana but Hakushi counters with a powerbomb then uses a senton for the win (11:03) **. Ross puts over Hakushi as a great star for the future.
Thoughts: A good bit of action here but their timing was off a lot and the result was an uneven match. Hakushi winning was a given though since he is lined up for a feud with Bret Hart.
WrestleMania Moment is Aretha Franklin singing “America the Beautiful” at WrestleMania III.
Now, we get the WrestleMania Report with the hosts at the desk. Here, we learn that King Kong Bundy vs. The Undertaker has been added to the PPV. I guess that was the big surprise DiBiase was hyping on Challenge.
An ad for the WWF “In High Gear” tour airs.
Aldo Montoya defeats Charlie Hunter from the 3/5 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
Shawn Michaels is with Pamela Anderson, saying he has the sexiest body in the world and after WrestleMania they will be the talk of the town.
We cut backstage to the band Fishbone as Pettengill says we will hear from them later on in the show.
Jacob & Eli Blue defeat Jumbo Baretta & Ben Jordan from the 3/5 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
Next week, Smoking Gunns defend the Tag Team Titles against Men on a Mission as we get a hype video for that match. Lots of trash talking here.
The announcers now interview Fishbone on a split screen as they are actually in Minnesota at the moment. The band introduces themselves as Pettengill says they will be singing America the Beautiful at WrestleMania. Pettengill says they are wrestling fans then asks them about the matches at WrestleMania then about Man Mountain Rock but Pettengill cannot get them to sign now. They also cannot wait to meet Pamela Anderson. Man this segment was brutal. And, we will see what happens with them as we approach WrestleMania.
Man Mountain Rock defeats Brooklyn Brawler from the 3/5 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
Tatanka defeats Ricky Santana from the 3/5 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
The interrogation skit with Ted DiBiase airs.
Now we are shown clips from the WrestleMania Press Conference. In his book, Bret Hart talked about Diesel & Shawn Michaels sulking for a majority of time because they were not the main event. Bret also was not too thrilled with the fact those two, who were in the title match and had been feuding for months, were seen sitting right next to each other during the event.
Smoking Gunns defeat Danny Ackerman & Bobby Wade from the 3/5 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.” Here, Ross correctly identified the enhancement team as they were incorrectly identified by Gorilla on Challenge, which was the way I was identifying them. Now, we have all been corrected.
Final Thoughts: The featured match was a let down but next week we get a title match. We also heard the news of Undertaker vs. King Kong Bundy at WrestleMania, which makes sense given what happened at the Royal Rumble and maybe we will get other surprises in store for next week.
