WWF Wrestling Challenge – February 5th, 1995

February 5, 1995

From the South Padre Island Convention Centre in South Padre Island, TX

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Ted DiBiase

This week in action are Doink, Bob Backlund, New Headshrinkers, and Hakushi.

Doink w/ Dink vs. Greg Davis

DiBiase gloats over what his men did to Mabel this past Monday night on RAW. Gorilla once again apologizes to Lawrence Taylor over the actions from “Scott” Bigelow during the Royal Rumble. Doink toys with Davis as DiBiase says LT should apologize for his taunting. Dink bites Davis in the ass then Doink works the arm on the mat. Gorilla then promises the footage of what Bigelow did at the rumble as Doink stays in control. Doink then hits a belly-to-belly suplex and goes back to the arm as Dink runs in and embarrasses Davis. Doink then catches Davis with a boot to the face and after that puts Davis away with the Whoopie Cushion (3:34). Doink & Dink dance around after the match.

Thoughts: This was mostly the announcers hyping up the Bigelow/LT footage from the Rumble. Doink is pretty much an opening match house show act at this point.

We see the replay of Bigelow shoving LT after losing the Tag Team Tournament Finals during the Royal Rumble PPV along with Bigelow’s challenge to LT.

Bob Backlund vs. Raven Clark

Backlund grounds Clark as the announcers talk about the confrontations between Backlund and Bret Hart during the Royal Rumble. Clark surprises Backlund with a small package for two but then walks into a right hand and after that Backlund uses the crossface chicken wing for the win (2:02). After the match, Backlund refuses to release the hold then finally lets go and looks at his hands then smiles over his accomplishment.

Thoughts: More of crazy old man Backlund as the announcers talked about his confrontations against Bret at the Royal Rumble.

WWF Live Event News with Tamara Murphy. This also plugs the In High Gear tour shows.

The New Head Shrinkers w/ Capt. Lou Albano & Afa vs. Sonny Pruitt & Lee Tobin

Gorilla talks about the Rumble being an embarrassment for The Corporation but DiBiase laughs over now having possession of the urn. Pruitt lands a few shots on Fatu but soon enough gets his ass kicked. Sionne press slams Tobin then kicks his ass for a bit as The Headshrinkers stay in control, even hitting the Decapitation, then Sionne tags out after a big boot and Fatu uses a top rope splash for the win (3:45). The announcers then talk about the Tag Team Title scene being wide open.

Thoughts: The Tag Division is really wide open and the depth on the heel side is quite weak and I don’t think the addition of the Brothers Blu will help. Anyway, the storyline of Capt. Lou trying to civilize the Headshrinkers was not brought at all here as that half-baked storyline is better off being forgotten.

A Man Mountain Rock vignette airs. Gorilla says he will be making his debut on RAW this Monday night.

Tatanka w/ Ted DiBiase vs. Matt Hardy

Tatanka beats down Hardy as Gorilla wants to know how insufferable DiBiase would have been if his team captured the titles at the Rumble. Gorilla now plugs the Bellport High School show as Hardy comes back with a bulldog. Hardy then slams Tatanka and goes for a springboard moonsault but misses. Tatanka now heads up top for a flying chop and pulls up Hardy after a two count. Gorilla does not think we will see much of Matt Hardy over the next week as Tatanka hits the End of the Trail for the win (3:21).

Thoughts: A win for Tatanka as Gorilla hyped up the six-man tag for RAW but no specific mention of the Luger/Tatanka feud that has been dragging for months.

Raymond Rougeau welcome the Smoking Gunns to the ring. He first congratulates them for winning the Tag Team Titles as the Gunns say this is due to their hard work, dedication, and training. They then said it would not be possible without fan support and say its the fans titles too. The Gunns also say its fine that all teams are gunning for them and how they got their shot after missing the tournament and will now give all the other teams a shot because only the best of the best are in the WWF. And they will retain to show they are the best and deserve the titles. One of the most generic fighting champions babyface interviews you’ll ever see.

Hakushi w/ Shinja vs. Shawn Dakota

Hakushi dropkicks Dakota while the lights were still off then hammers away. DiBiase says Jerry Lawler told him that Bret Hart was making racial slurs towards Hakushi as Gorilla calls that a lie then adds that Bret is on speaking terms with the Prime Minister of Japan. Hakushi drops Dakota with a chop then uses a few headbutts after a snap suplex. Hakushi chops down Dakota once again Gorilla wants to know Shinja’s purpose. Hakushi stays in control then puts Dakota away with a senton (2:59).

Thoughts: Hakushi continues to impress in the ring as they seem to be setting up something for him against Bret.

Duke “The Dumpster” Droese vs. Barry Horowitz

The announcers talk about Pam Anderson’s involvement at WrestleMania as Horowitz insults Droese before decking him. Droese fights back and hits a snap suplex then applies a bearhug. DiBiase talks about the passing of Rose Kennedy and wants to buy the Kennedy Compound to knock it down to give his place a better view of Nantucket. Droese back drops Horowitz then hits a powerslam as the announcers talk about Godwinn/Undertaker for Superstars. Droese then slams Horowitz and says its time to take out the trash as he uses the Trash Compactor for the win (2:45).

Thoughts: Lots of talk about Pam Anderson among other things. Again, Droese is just a guy put out to kill TV time.

Another Live Event News segment on the In High Gear tour.

Kama vs. Charlie Hunter

The announcers marvel over Kama’s size as he beats down Hunter. Kama works the arm as DiBiase says Kama is a Swahili word for “anger and hatred.” Kama hammers away in the corner then kicks down Hunter as Gorilla lists off all of the WWF newcomers then Kama hits a belly-to-belly suplex before the STF gets the win (2:36). DiBiase notes that Kama looks like a money-making machine.

Thoughts: Another unimpressive win for Kama. He moves around too slow to make this gimmick work in the ring. Anyway, DiBiase really seems to be interested in him so perhaps Kama will become a member of The Corporation soon enough.

Next week in action are Lex Luger, King Kong Bundy, Men on a Mission, Jacob & Eli Blue, and Aldo Montoya.

Final Thoughts: We had an incredibly boring exclusive interview with the Tag Champions and announced a card for next week that sounds incredibly pathetic as we are still building towards WrestleMania XI
