WWF Wrestling Challenge – November 6th, 1994

This recap also includes the Yokozuna vs. Mabel match from the 11/6/94 “Action Zone” since I was unable to find a copy of the complete show.

November 6, 1994

From the Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, NY

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Ted DiBiase

This week in action are Mabel & Adam Bomb, Jeff Jarrett, 1-2-3 Kid, Jerry Lawler, and the Heavenly Bodies. Plus, an interview with Bret Hart.

Mabel w/ Oscar & Adam Bomb vs. Barry Horowitz & Reno Riggins

Gorilla teases DiBiase about Mabel & Bomb taking out the Million $ Team at the Survivor Series. Bomb works over Horowitz to start. Horowitz fights back and hits a jawbreaker then chokes him out in the corner. DiBiase promises to take out the Guts & Glory team one-by-one until Luger is the last one left as Bomb catches Horowitz with a side slam. Mabel tags in and Horowitz & Riggins keep trying to pin him but gets tossed off. Mabel then takes on both men at the same time and tags out as Bomb puts Horowitz away with the Atom Smasher (2:54). Gorilla then puts over Mabel vs. Yokozuna on the Action Zone.

Thoughts: Mabel & Bomb are Survivor Series partners randomly tagging here to remind us about the PPV. It also showcased Mabel heading into his match against Yokozuna.

Todd Pettengill introduces the Chuck Norris vignette we saw on Superstars. And that is followed by promos from all parties involved in the Yokozuna vs. Undertaker casket match at Survivor Series.

The second IRS in the graveyard vignette airs.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Steve King

King shoves Jarrett from behind as Jarrett was doing his routine but ends up getting destroyed. Jarrett busts out a slingshot suplex then connects with a dropkick. Jarrett now works the leg before putting King away with the figure-four, a move Gorilla claims Jarrett stole from Nature Boy Buddy Rogers (1:56). Jarrett then tells us he will come out on top at the Survivor Series.

Thoughts: Jarrett is continuing his heel act about being the greatest at everything. He looked good in the ring tonight.

WWF Live Event News with Charlie Minn. Interesting note is that the advertised Bret Hart vs. Bob Backlund match for the 11/26 MSG show was “still taking place no matter what happens” at the Survivor Series.

Jerry “The King” Lawler w/ Queazy & Sleazy & Cheesy vs. Gary Scott

Gorilla plugs the Survivor Series Hotline. Lawler beats on Scott after getting embarrassed at the start of the match. The announcers now talk about a house show then Lawler puts Scott away with a piledriver (1:44).

Thoughts: Much like the Doink match on “Superstars,” the announcers talked about house shows instead of the Doink/Lawler feud.

Raymond Rougeau welcomes Bret Hart to the ring. Bret talks about the New Generation vs. Old Generation and feels bad for Backlund losing his way but will give him another title shot. Bret then says Backlund has lost his “marbles” as Rougeau talks about the submission match and stipulations with a towel man in each corner. Owen will even have the same towel Arnold Skaaland threw into the ring in 1983. Bret then talks about Bulldog being in his corner and wonders why Backlund took Owen in his corner and vows he will not surrender or lose his title. Generic babyface promo here by Bret to put over the stipulations of his PPV match.

Heavenly Bodies w/ Jim Cornette vs. Ben Jordan & Tony Roy

Jordan catches Del Ray with a dropkick then a clothesline but Del Ray catches him with a spinebuster that should have been a powerbomb but Jordan could not get up high enough. The Bodies now work over Roy then Del Ray puts him away with a moonsault (2:00).

Thoughts: The Bodies are showcased with a win due to being on the Survivor Series card as part of the Million $ Team.

We now get an ad hyping Bret Hart & British Bulldog vs. Owen Hart & Jim Neidhart for RAW.

Survivor Series Report airs.

The Bret Hart New Generation ad airs.

1-2-3 Kid vs. Todd Mata

Kid takes down Mata as the announcers put over the tag match from “Action Zone.” Mata hammers away in the corner as the announcers talk about the Survivor Series. Gorilla then puts over Kid’s “intestinal fortitude” as Kid catches Mata with a dropkick. Kid hits a running leg drop and a kick in the corner then uses a flying leg drop for the win (2:21).

Thoughts: Kid is always being pushed as an underdog and part of the New Generation. They once again mention the awesome tag title match on Action Zone.

Live Event News airs again.

Next week in action are Lex Luger, IRS, Smoking Gunns, Jim Neidhart, and Bam Bam Bigelow & King Kong Bundy. Plus, an interview with the Bad Guys Survivor Series team and more from Chuck Norris.

Final Thoughts: The exclusive part here was the Bret interview with the rest of the show being the same recycled clips and subpar announcing we’ve been accustom to for a while.

……..And now, the Yokozuna vs. Mabel match from the 11/6/94 edition of Action Zone.

Mabel w/ Oscar vs. Yokozuna w/ Jim Cornette & Mr. Fuji

Your announcers are Vince McMahon & Todd Pettengill. Before the match, Charlie Minn meets Mabel and the returning Oscar in the aisle then Oscar raps Mabel to the ring. The hosts talk about George Foreman becoming heavyweight champion and how Foreman & Michael Moorer combined weigh less than either Yokozuna or Mabel. Both men charge at each other with Mabel knocking down Yokozuna. The crowd chants “Whoomp There It Is” as Yokozuna rolls outside for a breather. Yokozuna rakes Mabel’s face after a lockup but whiffs on a clothesline and gets knocked outside with a flying shoulder tackle. Mabel heads out and they go back-and-forth until Yokozuna smashes Mabel’s face against the steps twice. Yokozuna rolls back inside then knocks Mabel back outside as we head to break. The action returns as Yokozuna decks Mabel with a forearm smash. Yokozuna now works a nerve hold that does not look the slightest bit painful. Mabel escapes then drops Yokozuna after a pair of clotheslines then hits a leg drop for a nearfall. Mabel heads to the middle rope and uses a crossbody for two. Mabel now heads up top but Yokozuna slams him off. Yokozuna now takes a breather in the corner then follows with an avalanche, looking like he was about to pass out in the process, and soon after that uses the Bonzai Drop for the win (5:56 shown) *1/2. Yokozuna continues to sit on Mabel after the match then finally gets off and taunts the crowd. Vince then hypes the Hart Attack tour taking place tonight in Philadelphia, PA.

Thoughts: This was actually a fun match until the break as after that these two appeared gas, especially Yokozuna. The nerve hold spots were always terrible but this was nowhere near as bad as it could have been and if it even went a few more minutes longer it could have really fell apart. Yokozuna getting the win made sense since he was feuding with Undertaker while Mabel is just part of a traditional Survivor Series match. And we saw Oscar return so maybe Mo is not that far behind?
