Can Parsons and JYD attain the American tag titles? Will Mike win his in-ring debut match against Akbar? And who will rock this episode with me?

Joan, what a surprise! From your compliment, I gather you want our fans to have some explosive fun.

Opening montage.

For those unaware, the 11/26 episode is a clip show, so I skipped it.

Prior to the opening match, Ralph Pulley sings the US national anthem quite well.

Match 1 (six-man): Blackie Gordman, Boris Zhukov, & Tonga John versus Jose Lothario, Johnny Mantell, & Mike Reed

Highlights:

  • Mantell countered a hip toss by John with one of his own.
  • When Reed tagged in, the Dallas faithful got up to retrieve beef jerky.
  • Nonetheless, Zhukov tagged in, but Reed escaped a rear chin lock and tagged in Mantell.
  • As Mantell gave him a cross corner whip, he backdropped Zhukov.
  • He then dropkicked him and followed with a gutwrench suplex for
  • After Lothario tagged in, he WALLOPED Zhukov resulting in a Zhukov flop.
  • Gordman tagged in, but Lothario leap-frogged him and delivered a back elbow.
  • When Lothario threatened another pair of back elbows, Gordman hesitated then charged.
  • Expectedly, Lothario evaded him sending Gordman to the concrete floor.
  • Upon Gordman’s return, Lothario backdropped him.
  • He then nailed Gordman with a left that sent him between the ropes to the concrete floor again.
  • As John tagged in, Lothario reversed a cross corner whip and hammered him with a solid right.
  • Gordman came in, but Lothario tagged him plenty.
  • With all six wrestlers in the ring, Mantell backdropped John.
  • Zhukov tagged in while John distracted referee Nick Roberts. In the meantime, the remaining heels double-teamed Mantell. SNEAKY!
  • While the Dallas faithful chanted “go Johnny, go,” Zhukov clotheslined Mantell for only 1 thanks to Lothario.
  • With all six wrestlers in again, Mantell escaped a slam, hit a move off-camera, and pinned Zhukov.
  • Mantell, Lothario, and Reed won.

Rating: *½

Summary: If you had told me that neither John nor Reed would be pinned in this match, I’d refer you to your local mental health facility.

After the match, Lothario clobbers and dropkicks Gordman.

Following a commercial break, Mercer interviews all four Von Erich brothers including Mike.

Prior to the next match, ring announcer Marc Lowrance introduces promoter Sam Muchnick along with Bing Devine of the St. Louis Cardinals (NFL).

Match 2: Mike Von Erich versus General Skandor Akbar (w/ Friday)

Highlights:

  • This match marked Mike’s in-ring debut.
  • Immediately, Mike hooked a backslide and got 2.
  • He then escaped an arm bar and dropkicked Akbar.
  • As Mike missed a second dropkick, Akbar slammed him.
  • Akbar then retrieved a whip from Friday, but Mike rolled up Akbar.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Mike won.

Rating: *

Summary: Showcase match for the newest Von Erich to the promotion.

After the match, Kevin storms the ring to keep Friday at bay. Meanwhile, Mike backdrops Akbar, grabs the whip, and tags Akbar with it.

Match 3 for the NWA American tag team titles: The Super Destroyers (champions w/ Gen. Skandor Akbar) versus “Iceman” King Parsons & Junkyard Dog

Highlights:

  • #1 gave JYD a cross corner whip but ate a forearm during his follow-through.
  • When tags were exchanged on both sides, Parsons reversed an Irish whip yet received a hip toss.
  • He then leap-frogged #2 and followed with a dropkick.
  • As JYD tagged in, #2 tried to ram him head-first into #1’s knee.
  • JYD no-sold it and head-butted both Super Destroyers. That’s one hard head!
  • After #1 tagged in, JYD gave him a cross corner whip but came up empty on his follow-through.
  • Parsons tagged in and delivered a butt butt.
  • Do we have new champions?
  • 1-2-NO!
  • #2 saved his partner and the titles.
  • With all four wrestlers in the ring, #1 made Parsons HIT THE POLE.
  • Parsons was BUSTED OPEN!
  • When JYD tagged in, he backdropped #1.
  • He then slammed #2 while Parsons was removed from the ring for medical attention.
  • As #1 tagged in, he landed an elbow drop for 2.
  • #2 tagged in, mounted the second turnbuckle, and hit an axe handle.
  • After Parsons returned with his head bandaged, referee Bronko Lubich called for the bell.
  • Methinks he disqualified JYD due to Parsons’ interference.
  • The Super Destroyers retained.

Rating: *½

Summary: Although Parsons and JYD are tremendously popular with the Dallas faithful, this match barely had any flow, and Parsons’ return causing a DQ made no sense. I realize keeping the belts on the Super Destroyers was important, but the decision stunk on Melba toast.

After the match, Parsons unceremoniously dumped Akbar into the ring. #2 then held Parsons so that Akbar could toss a fireball in his face. How dastardly!

Sorry, Chester.

Conclusion:  HOT ending to a show with matches that set the table for the upper card. The next episode should really rock, right, Joan?

Thanks for joining me. I’m sure my RSG-ites enjoyed your visit.
