What the World Was Watching: WCW Worldwide – August 12, 1995

Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan are doing commentary and they are taped from Orlando, Florida.

Sadly, my copy of this show had a recording error and some matches were lost.  According to last week’s preview, these wrestlers won squash matches:

*The Renegade (14-0)

*Dick Slater & Bunkhouse Buck (16-9)

Kamala (w/Kevin Sullivan) (7-2) beats Scott D’Amore after a splash at 3:00:

Kamala nearly forgets WCW’s rule against throwing an opponent over the top rope, so he has to stop mid-motion and choke D’Amore instead.  Kamala uses his belly as a weapon several times before winning with the splash.  Once again, Sullivan has to run in after the match and hold Kamala’s eyes closed to get him to stop beating up D’Amore.

Non-Title Match:  Sting (United States Champion) (21-1) defeats Paul Orndorff (13-5) after reversing a suplex into the ring at 9:13:

Much of this match takes place on the canvas, with Orndorff working copious restholds.  There is also an awkward small package sequence where Sting does the move but Orndorff’s shoulders are not down, so they have to roll more on the canvas for referee Randy Anderson to start counting.  Orndorff knocks Sting out of the ring but when he tries to suplex him back in, Sting floats over and then awkwardly crashes on top of Orndorff for the pin.  There was a lot of sloppiness in this match and the Disney crowd’s silence did not help get the match over.  Rating:  *

The Last Word:  This broadcast was just a standard C-show and had a poor feature match so that made it skippable.  Paul Orndorff has not had a good singles match yet in 1995, with his best effort being a *½ encounter with Brian Pillman three months ago.
