WWF Monday Night RAW – December 27th, 1993

December 27, 1993

From the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and The Quebecers

We get a video package on last week’s Tatanka vs. Ludvig Borga match where Tatanka was also attacked by Yokozuna until Lex Luger made the save. Luger also slammed Yokozuna during the melee.

Back to the hosts as Jacques proclaims we will see how Polo is the best wrestler in the WWF. Pierre is speaking in French.

Lex Luger vs. Barry Horowitz

Vince is bothered by Pierre speaking in French as Luger works the arm. Vince says that Luger wants to enter the Royal Rumble match as Horowitz fights back. Luger sends Horowitz into the corner and uses a school boy for two but Horowitz rakes the eyes and uppercuts Lex in the corner. The Quebecers laugh about facing Bret & Owen Hart at the Rumble then Luger tries to fight back but is booted in the gut. Jacques now speaks in French as Horowitz continues to hammer away. Luger comes back with a clothesline then catches Horowitz in a powerslam before using a superplex and the win (4:26). Vince then plugs Luger’s match on “Superstars” against Jacques.

Thoughts: I have no idea why they gave Horowitz so much offense in this match as Luger was trying to get into the Rumble match and just came off of last week where he beat up and slammed Yokozuna. They still hyped up Luger vs. Jacques for “Superstars” but did not have any confrontation here. And Luger’s reactions are still not that great.

1-900 number flashes on the screen on whether or not you feel WWF President Jack Tunney should allow Luger to enter the Royal Rumble match.

We see clips of Johnny Polo interfering during the Marty Jannetty vs. 1-2-3 Kid match from several weeks ago that led to both Jannetty & Kid attacking Polo.

Polo is now shown backstage as he calls Vince “McMoron” before saying he can take care of “Marty Confetti” just like he said weeks ago.

Johnny Polo vs. Marty Jannetty

Polo takes Marty over with a hip toss then taunts the crowd. Polo then brags after taking Marty down with an arm drag after an Irish whip sequence but misses a charge in the corner. Polo lands on the apron after a whip into the corner but Marty slingshots him back inside then uses an atomic drop. Back suplex gets two then Marty works the arm. Marty gets another nearfall this time with a sunset flip then goes back to the arm. Polo ducks a crossbody as Marty crashes and burns outside prompting Jacques to say “we love to fly and it shows” then Polo flies out with a pescado. Back inside, both men collide attempting crossbodies. Marty is up first and hits a jumping back elbow smash. Marty heads up top but Polo cuts him off and heads up but is tossed off trying a superplex then Marty uses a flying body press for two. Marty eats boot on a charge in the corner but avoids a charging Polo with a leapfrog and rolls him up for two. Marty sends Polo over the top rope with a dropkick as Pierre is helping up his manager but they both get taken out with a baseball slide. Pierre then trips up Marty from the outside but Marty still manages to hit Polo with a super kick. Marty then flies out onto Pierre as Polo came back inside then Marty slingshots in with a sunset flip but Polo doesnt go down then Pierre helps out his manager and gets the win (8:23) **1/2. Marty is pissed and jaws at Jacques before grabbing a chair and now the ref appears to toss out Pierre from ringside.

Thoughts: Its clear they are building towards a match between The Quebecers and Marty & 1-2-3 Kid but they just have to get to that point since Kid did not make an appearance during the show.

The “WWF Unbelievable” ad with Yokozuna as Santa Claus airs.

Doink the Clown w/ Dink vs. Spike Gray

We learn that Pierre was in fact tossed from the booth. Doink & Dink mess with Gray as Vince cackles like an idiot. Gray almost takes a swing at Dink but misses then Doink uses a bridging German suplex for the win (1:04).

Thoughts: Again, the Dink humor is not working unless your name is Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

Royal Rumble Report with Todd Pettengill.

We get a video hyping a Bam Bam Bigelow & Bastion Booger vs. Smoking Gunns match for next week.

Crush w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Mike Moraldo

Crush stays in control as Vince questions whether or not Crush has the intestinal fortitude to step into the ring with Randy Savage. Crush continues to beat on Moraldo then puts him away with a head vice (2:24).

Thoughts: An easy win for Crush as his feud against Savage continues.

We go back to the Undertaker’s workshop. He’s still making Yokozuna’s casket.

Bret Hart tells us not to drink and drive.

Alundra Blayze and Heidi Lee Morgan talk about becoming the Women’s Champion then we see highlights from their match, which was shown in its entirety on the 12/26 edition of “All-American Wrestling” where Blayze was victorious.

The Kwang video airs.

Razor Ramon vs. Derek Domino

Razor works the arm as Jacques cracks a lot of bad jokes. Razor stays in control as the announcers talk about Razor’s gold being in the possession of IRS. Razor now works an abdominal stretch then puts Domino away with the Razor’s Edge as Jacques says his New Year’s Resolution is to teach Pierre how to speak English (3:50).

Thoughts: More hype for the Razor/IRS feud as Razor is looking to retrieve his gold chain.

Next week in action are Jeff Jarrett and Yokozuna along with the featured tag match.

Final Thoughts: The main angle was with Marty and Polo & The Quebecers. We saw Luger in action as he did not have many squash match appearances as a babyface during this time. We also have a featured match for next week lined up and the commentary of Jacques was alright I suppose but next week’s guest commentator was not mentioned.

And that concludes 1993 for the WWF. This is the 10th straight year of WWE programming I have completed during this timeline and will continue into 1994 and what a year that was for the company. Anyway, thank you for reading these and please enjoy/comment on whatever I write. All feedback is welcome. Thank you.
