Bobby Heenan is your host inside of a dark studio. The theme here is that its a skeleton production crew and this particular episode is only a half-hour long.
This week’s featured match is Marty Jannetty vs. 1-2-3 Kid
1-2-3 Kid vs. Marty Jannetty
This match took place at the 9/1 “Wrestling Challenge” tapings in Saginaw, MI. Jim Ross and Gorilla Monsoon are the announcers. Both men bump fists before locking up. We get a reversal sequence that ends in a stalemate after both men kipped up, with Kid nearly falling back down in the process. We get another stalemate after a faster paced sequence as neither man can gain the advantage. Kid almost puts Marty away with a victory roll then Marty regroups briefly in the corner. Kid tries a hurricarana but Marty counters that with a sit-out powerbomb for a nearfall then we head to commercial. The match returns with Marty working the arm as the announcers tell us that Marty had several nearfalls during the break. Marty misses an attack in the corner then Kid covers for two. We get a pinfall reversal sequence now that ends with Marty whipping Kid through the ropes then taking him down with a baseball slide. Marty now flies out with a pescado then heads back out to roll him back inside as Kid was about to get counted out. Marty heads up top but Kid dropkicks him to the floor then flies out with a somersault plancha and has his legs whack the guardrail. Back inside, Marty gets a two count with a flying headscissors then heads up top but Kid got his boot up to block the flying fist drop. Kid tries a suicide dive but Marty ducks out of the way and this time rolls inside for the count out win (6:22 shown) ***1/4. After the match, Marty goes out to check on Kid and brings him back inside. Marty helps Kid up and raises his arm then the two hug.
Thoughts: Really good stuff here and the ending wasn’t bad with the veteran Jannetty outsmarting Kid in a high-flying match. Also, we saw Marty help Kid up and show him respect afterwards, which is noteworthy for the future.
King’s Court from “Superstars” airs.
The Quebecers defeat Ross Greenberg & PJ Walker from the 9/12 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
Ludvig interrupts Luger backstage at SummerSlam.
Heenan plugs the Tag Team Title match on RAW between The Quebecers and Steiners.
Final Thoughts: The featured match was good in this abbreviated version of All-American Wrestling. This show was a breeze to watch but next week would return to the normal format with a new co-host.
