Indies and Insanity: April 25, 2019

A REMINDER: please do not talk about Avengers: Endgame here.  Scott has been kind enough to set up a separate thread on the board for that purpose.

Tonight, it’s Nuggets (3) vs Spurs (2) to see if it’s truly Pop’s Last Stand.  Meanwhile, Columbus travels to Boston for their Game 1, while Dallas plays Saint Louis soon after.  Also, the NFL Draft kicks off tonight, as I wait to see where my man Daniel Jones goes — if he goes in Round 1.

But this is allegedly still a wrestling community, so let’s see what wrestling there is!  Jump with me!

Okay, so here’s the highlights of the week!

  • We open with AIW doing Gauntlet for the Gold 14 in Parma, OH tomorrow night.  While no gauntlet match appears imminent, we do have the tag gold on the line as To Infinity And Beyond faces La Familia de Tijuana, MJF squares off against Shane Douglas (yes, that Shane Douglas), and in a celebration of both men’s 20th anniversaries in the business, Matt Cross and Josh Prohibition will face off in the main event!
  • This Week On Super Viernes: it’s the finals of the Torneo Increible de Parejas!  Your wacky tag teams are Barbaro Cavernario/Titan taking on Ultimo Guerrero/Volador Jr for the title.  Meanwhile, your Lightning Match of the week is El Valiente facing Hechicero.
  • WSU has a double-shot in Voorhees, New Jersey.  Tomorrow night’s show, “Thank You For Being a Friend”, has a six-team tag team tournament for the vacant Tag Team Titles.  Meanwhile, the Saturday show, which of course is called “Traveled Down the Road and Back Again”, hasn’t announced much (I expect to avoid spoilers for Show 1), but we do have Kasey Catal against Aja Perera in a #1 Contender’s Match.
  • Chikara hit the Poconos on Saturday night with a loaded show called Fright Knight!  Still Life with Apricots and Pears defends the Young Lions Cup against Brayden Lee; the big gold is on the line as Dasher Hatfield battles Missile Assault Man; Team FIST looks to recapture the tag gold; The Hurricane makes what he’s teasing may be his last in-ring performance; and Jakob Hammermeier takes on The Patriot (Tom Brandi)!
  • This weekend, Ring of Honor and the NWA combine to give you the 2019 CROCKETT CUP!  Coming to you Saturday night from Concord, NC (in PWX’s usual stomping ground), 8 teams square off in one night to determine the winner of this historic trophy!  Plus, all three NWA titles are on the line — Nick Aldis defends the Ten Pounds of Gold against Marty Scurll; Willie Mack puts the National gold on the line against Colt Cabana; and the vacated Women’s Championship will be decided between Allysin Kay and Santana Garrett!  (And because we’ve got a lot of Crockett Cup marks, here’s the first round:
    • Bandido and Flip Gordon vs. Guerrero Maya Jr. and Stuka Jr.
    • Satoshi Kojima and Yuji Nagata vs. Brody King and PCO
    • The War Kings (Crimson/Jax Dane) vs. the winner of a Last Chance Tag Battle Royal
    • The Briscoe Brothers (Jay/Mark) vs. The Rock and Roll Express (yes, them)
  • Also Saturday night in Tennessee, it’s a Scenic City card: Showdown!  AC Mack takes on Joey Lynch!  The Warhorse Jake Parnell faces Jaden Newman!  And in a special attraction, Nick Traimer and Alan Angels take on Cabana Man Dan and Bill Dundee — yes, folks, THAT BILL DUNDEE.

AEW announced the signing of Private Party — an exciting tag team of Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen — this week, so your Indie Match Of The Week is those two taking on the Southeast’s top indie duo, the Ugly Ducklings (Lance Lude and Rob Killjoy).  Worth the look!

All right, bring the INSANITY!  (But don’t bring the Avengers spoilers, dammit!)
