Indies and Insanity: February 21, 2019

Daily Thread interaction summary: I need to mute threads more on Twitter.  (You’re all nodding.  I know.  I lack much common sense.)

The NBA is back from their All-Star break with a TNT doubleheader: Celtics/Bucks, then Rockets/Lakers.  As for college basketball, ESPN has the heavy hitters with Michigan/Minnesota and Oregon/USC.  ESPN2 has an AAC double-header with UCF/Cincinnati and Connecticut/SMU.  ESPNU’s Deep Cuts are Vermont/UMBC (UMBC is a name college hoopheads remember form last year), High Point/Campbell (Campbell has a 30PPG scorer, so this isn’t as random as it looks), and Hawai’i/UC Santa Barbara.

But this is a wrestling chat thread, so let’s talk wrestling after the jump!

This weekend has many important things going on, and not just my birthday on Saturday.  Let’s break it down!

  • CMLL, as always, is running Super Viernes on Friday on Claro.  The New Generation Dinamitas will square off against both Caristico, Mistico II, and Volador Jr. in the main event.  Meanwhile, Barbaro Cavernario faces Titan in a lightning match!
  • AAW is in Chicago on Saturday night with The Art of War.  Your main event is a triple threat tag with the Lucha Bros (so Fenix’s injury scare was just a scare), LAX, and the team of Myron Reed and AR Fox!  Plus, on the undercard, what is sure to be a wild brawl as Jimmy Jacobs goes one-on-one with Mance Warner!
  • AIW goes to Akron Saturday night for Hail to the King, Baby!  Both Joshua Bishop and Dominic Garrini will take part in Pick Your Poison matches — Garrini has Bishop face Tom Lawlor, while Bishop is making Garrini face Kevin Thorn!  Plus, Tracy Williams defends the gold against PB Smooth, and Harley Race will be in the building to sign autographs!
  • WWR heads to upstate New York (Deer Park) for Widowmaker.  In the main event, Lisa Marie Varon — best known as WWE’s Victoria and/or TNA’s Tara — will face Kris Statlander!  Also in attendance will be Veda Scott, Allie Kat, Solo Darling, Maria Manic, and Allysin Kay!
  • Your SHOW OF THE WEEK is in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, as Beyond Wrestling presents Destination: Uncharted Territory!  The headline is an eight-person tournament with the winner getting a future IWTV Championship match against Orange Cassidy — with the twist of all four quarterfinal matches being intergender!  (It’s Jordynne Grace vs Wheeler YUTA, Josh Briggs vs Solo Darling, Chris Dickinson vs Willow Nightingale, and David Starr vs Kris Statlander.)  But there’s also an intergender non-tournament match as “Retro” Anthony Greene faces the aforementioned Varon!
  • Meanwhile in Collinsville, Illinois, Glory Pro has their 2nd anniversary show!  Curt Stallion (he of EVOLVE) defends the big gold in the main event against Jody Fleisch!  Meanwhile, Eddie Kingston and PACO go two out of three, and the Besties in the World defend against Myron Reed and Stephen Wolf!
  • And to top it off, Progress is back in London with Chapter 84!  I’d give the subtitle, but I think it’s written in Cockney (what’s a Bokkle Oran Doove?).  WALTER defends the big gold in the main event against Chris Ridgeway, Jordan Devlin faces Travis Banks, and the Swords of Essex defend the tag gold against Aussie Open!

And now, for a free indie match: from Beyond, we have Kassius Ohno, going by his indie name Chris Hero, facing one of the best grapplers I’ve ever seen live, Jonathan Gresham.

Bring the insanity!
