WWF Wrestling Challenge – March 28th, 1993

March 28, 1993

From the Augusta Civic Center in Augusta, GA

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

This week in action are Doink the Clown and The Steiner Brothers

Mr. Perfect vs. Brooklyn Brawler

Gorilla talks about WrestleMania featuring the world’s largest toga party as Heenan is now refusing to wear a toga at the show. Perfect works over Brawler as we hear from Lex Luger in an insert promo saying his enjoyment will be Perfect’s demise. Brawler hits Perfect low and hammers away. Brawler hits a slam then heads up top but Perfect slams him off then soon after that Perfect uses the Perfect Plex for the win (2:21).

Thoughts: They hyped the fact the WWF crew will be wearing togas as much as they did the Luger vs. Perfect match at WrestleMania IX.

The Andre the Giant tribute video airs.

Doink the Clown vs. Tom Jones

Doink takes down Jones as Gorilla plugs the WrestleMania Hotline. Doink slams Jones then beats on him in the corner then uses the stump puller for the win (2:11).

Thoughts: More WrestleMania hype here as Doink will face Crush at the PPV.

The Jim Duggan lumberyard promo from “Superstars” airs.

The Bret Hart and Yokozuna contract signing airs.

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Joey Maggs

The announcers talk about Bigelow facing Kamala at WrestleMania. Bigelow beats on Maggs as the announcers wonder if Sensational Sherri will appear at WrestleMania. Bigelow hits Maggs with several falling headbutts then we hear from Slick with Kamala as he warns Bigelow about facing Kamala at WrestleMania. Bigelow pulls up Maggs after hitting an elbow drop and continues to overpower him until using a flying headbutt for the win (3:11).

Thoughts: This match felt longer than it was as we got hype for the WrestleMania match that never happened.

WrestleMania IX Report

Steiner Brothers vs. Glen Ruth & Dale Wolfe

Scott tosses Ruth around then we hear from The Headshrinkers & Afa in an insert promo calling out the Steiners to hype their match at WrestleMania. Scott destroys Ruth with a dragon suplex as Gorilla hypes the “March to WrestleMania” special. Wolfe tags in and Scott overpowers him too. Rick is in and hits Wolfe with a belly-to-belly suplex from the middle rope then the Steiners use a Doomsday bulldog for the win (3:27).

Thoughts: Fun to see the Steiners toss around their opponents as their match against Headshrinkers continues to get a lot of hype as a match between two of the most impressive teams in the company.

The show closes with the WrestleMania music video.

Final Thoughts: The key stuff was already shown on Superstars (even though the contract signing was billed as being from Challenge) as we are now just one week away until WrestleMania.
