From the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, CA
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
This week in action are The Nasty Boys, Lex Luger, Owen Hart, and The Headshrinkers.
Nasty Boys vs. Ed Moretti & The Intruder
Knobbs beats on Moretti as the announcers talk about the WrestleMania Tag Team Title match. The Nasty Boys stay in control then put The Intruder away with the running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo (2:32).
Thoughts: They used the Nasty Boys match as a backdrop to talk about the WrestleMania Tag Title match. It also makes the Nasty Boys look a bit like goofs for giving up a title shot and not getting to be on the WrestleMania card.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. This highlighted Yokozuna destroying an enhancement talent last week on “Superstars.”
Damien Demento vs. Joey Maggs
Demento points and yells at Maggs before locking up. Demento kicks Maggs in the face as Gorilla says we will have an interview with Bret Hart coming up after this match. Demento once again talks to the voices in his head and that allows Maggs to sneak up from behind with a school boy that gets two. Demento rakes Maggs across the face and kicks him in the corner before he rearranges his knee pad and hits a knee drop for the win (2:16).
Thoughts: Demento is still circling the drain of the lower midcard while the announcers talked about the World Heavyweight Title match at WrestleMania.
Raymond Rougeau welcomes Bret Hart to the interview platform. He asks Bret about Yokozuna destroying his opponent after his match last week. Bret says Yokozuna & Mr. Fuji were trying to send him a message but that poor guy who got punished last week was not the excellence of execution. Bret also says that Yokozuna & Fuji do not respect anything about him, including the fact he is the champion, and that no matter what happens after WrestleMania IX he will still be called the WWF Champion. The interview was fine but the theme of Bret constantly saying no matter what happens, Yokozuna & Fuji will come out of WrestleMania respecting him sure does make it seem like Bret is going to lose the title.
The Headshrinkers w/ Afa vs. Jesse Storm & Mark Ming
The Headshrinkers & Afa are eating a raw chicken before the match. Samu shoves down Storm as the announcers talk about Headshrinkers vs. Steiners at WrestleMania. We then hear from the Steiners in an insert promo where they say barking drives Rick crazy. The Headshrinkers now beat on Ming until Fatu puts him away with a top rope splash (2:20).
Thoughts: The Headshrinkers looked more like stereotypical 80’s goofball Samoan savages here than they have been presented with the raw chicken but they are still impressive in the ring.
Owen Hart vs. Bobby Young
Owen works the arm as the announcers talk about the renovations that have taken place at Caesar’s Palace. Owen hits an elbow drop then catches Young with a belly-to-belly suplex as the announcers continue to plug WrestleMania. Owen goes back to the arm as Heenan puts over how Owen & Bret work out together then makes fun of them for being dumb and Canadian. Owen dropkicks Young outside then flies out with a pescado before taking the match back inside where he uses a flying body press for the win (2:44). After the match, Harvey Whippleman & Giant Gonzalez head out. Whippleman said that Gonzalez was scheduled to face 30 opponents but they were all scared and left the building. Whippleman said that Undertaker is also a coward like the others and that is why he’s not here today. Gonzalez then tells Undertaker that he will bury him.
Thoughts: Zero mention of High Energy but Owen is still wearing the same pants. Anyway, Heenan got in a few insults at Owen’s expense but the focus on commentary was the WrestleMania venue. Then we saw Whippleman & Gonzalez come out to say how they’ve scared everyone.
We now hear from Paul Bearer & Undertaker in a promo backstage as Undertaker promises to put the Giant to rest.
WrestleMania IX Report airs.
The Mr. Perfect and Mike Modano hockey segment airs.
“The Narcissist” Lex Luger vs. Reno Riggins
Luger beats on Riggins as Heenan claims that Luger will make a fool out of Perfect at WrestleMania. Gorilla recalls Heenan claiming that Perfect was the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all-time but Heenan said that was because he handled his career. Riggins dodges an attack and fires away but runs into a clothesline. Luger press slams Riggins then uses the running forearm smash for the win after covering with his pinky finger (2:08). After the match, Luger holds Riggins up in front of the mirror and tosses him down.
Thoughts: More hype for Luger vs. Perfect at WrestleMania.
Next week in action are Mr. Perfect, Doink, and the Stiener Brothers. Plus, the Bret Hart/Yokozuna contract signing.
Final Thoughts: The only thing exclusive was the Bret interview as they are hyping next week’s WrestleMania contract signing. Besides that we got more WrestleMania hype as the show is just two weeks away.
