From the Beaumont Convention Center in Beaumont, TX
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
We get the same still photos from the Rumble
This week in action are Kamala, Marty Jannetty, Money Inc., and in his in-ring debut, Doink the Clown.
Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Jim Hunter
The announcers talk about the European tour as Bigelow tosses Hunter across the ring. Bigelow hits a delayed vertical suplex as Gorilla says Bigelow will face Bret Hart for the title as they talk about Bret wanting to be a fighting champion will be his demise. Bigelow hits another suplex then heads up top for a diving headbutt and the win (1:42).
Thoughts: A squash win for Bigelow to put him over as a World Heavyweight Title challenger.
Clips of Bret Hart’s interview from “Superstars.”
Skinner vs. Dave Silguero
Skinner cheap shots Silguero after a break as Heenan says we will hear from Lex Luger later on in the show. Gorilla teases Heenan over Flair being gone from the WWF as Skinner roughs up Silguero. Skinner chokes out Silguero against the ropes then soon after that uses an inverted DDT for the win (2:30).
Thoughts: This match was a backdrop for the announcers to talk about Luger and reminding us that Flair is out of the WWF.
Sean Mooney tells us about a benefit for the Miami Project to benefit recently paralyzed New York Jet Dennis Byrd. Oddly enough, the WWF received criticism from the “New York Daily News ” a few weeks prior for the Crush/Doink angle where Crush was taken out on a stretcher as the writer was upset they did this just after Byrd became paralyzed.
James Santos vs. Kamala w /Slick
Gorilla notes how Kamala smiled to show how much happier he is with Slick. However, Slick tells Kamala not to choke out Santos then Kamala hits a thrust kick. Kamala stays on the attack and hits a splash but still needs the crowd and Slick to tell him to roll Santos on his back then he gets the win (2:47).
Thoughts: This Slick/Kamala babyface pairing is a dud seeing that Kamala’s character has not changed.
We see “The Narcissist” Lex Luger on the announcers monitor. Luger then thanks Heenan for being able to truly admire himself then Luger compares himself to ice cream while comparing Mr. Perfect to horse manure.
Jerry Stevens & Robert Taylor vs. Money Inc. w/ Jimmy Hart
Money Inc. works over Taylor to start. The announcers talk about Money Inc. having to defend the titles on the European Tour and how a lot of things can change over the next few months. Stevens is in now and gets destroyed then IRS hits the Write Off clothesline then follows with an elbow drop for the win (2:38).
Thoughts: Money Inc. continues to underwhelm as champs as the announcers spent most of this match hyping up the European tour.
An ad for WrestleMania IX airs.
Duggan interview from “Superstars”
Marty Jannetty w/ Sensational Sherri vs. Mike Williams
The announcers put over Marty’s match against Shawn at the Rumble as being great. Heenan says he thought Sherri had class until she hung around with Marty and now calls her a bimbo. Williams works the arm but Marty quickly takes over. Sherri is shown in an insert promo telling Shawn she will be by Marty’s side as Marty works a chinlock. Williams rams Marty into the corner then talks trash at Sherri but Marty attacks then uses a Rocker Dropper for the win (2:46). After the match, Marty lowers the ropes to allow Sherri to enter and the two slap five and show a lack of chemistry.
Thoughts: Seems like they were really going to hype up a WrestleMania rematch between Shawn and Marty but the latter got fired.
We get the segment from Superstars where Dr. Hatfield hypes up ICOPRO
Giant Gonzales attacking The Undertaker from the Royal Rumble airs.
El Matador vs. The Predator
The Predator is actually the future Horace Hogan under a mask. He received a tryout at this taping then lasted for several months in an enhancement role. The announcers talk about Giant Gonzalez then the Headlock on Hunger benefit show this past week, with Heenan telling us how people are unaware of all the charitable contributions made by the WWF as Matador takes control of the match. Matador is shown in an insert promo talking about how great it was to appear at the Headlock on Hunger show at MSG. The announcers then talk about Todd Pettengill and do an amusing bit about that with Heenan pretending not to know him.
Thoughts: Just a match to give announcers time to sell other things going on in the company.
Bob East vs. Doink the Clown
This is Doink’s TV in-ring debut. Doink starts off on the mat then uses a single leg crab as Heenan points out that Doink is an accomplished wrestler. We then hear from Doink in an insert promo laughing over Crush being dumb for falling for the oldest trick in the book. Doink then laughs before hitting a snap suplex then puts East away with a stump puller (1:44). The camera then shows Doink go from laughing to anger.
Thoughts: Doink did look good in the ring as his feud with Crush continues.
Next week in action are Razor Ramon, High Energy, Headshrinkers, and Virgil.
We then hear Yokozuna & Mr. Fuji accept Duggan’s challenge
Final Thoughts: All of the key segments were from Superstars or clips from the Rumble, making this show skippable.
