WWF Wrestling Challenge – December 13th, 1992

December 13, 1992

From the Erie Civic Center in Erie, PA

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

Yokozuna vs. Chris Allen

Yokozuna is greeted by two Geisha girls in the ring. Fuji is now wearing a black robe. Yokozuna uses his sumo techniques before shoving Allen into the air. Yokozuna then hits a belly-to-belly suplex and continues to manhandle Allen until he hits a sit-down splash from the middle rope for the win (1:52).

Thoughts: Another impressive performance by Yokozuna as he is someone who is surely going to get pushed in the future.

WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. Same as “Superstars” that revealed the Royal Rumble main event of Bret Hart vs. Razor Ramon and the news of the Rumble match winner getting a title shot at WrestleMania.

Beverly Brothers vs. Bill Koby & Brett Tyler

The Genius’s absence is not explained. Heenan predicts that Flair will win the Rumble two years in a row and face Razor for the title at WrestleMania. Blake slaps Tyler across the face then rams him into the corner. Tyler avouds a charge but Blake takes him down with a dragon screw. The Beverly Brothers double-team Tyler as we see the clown in the stands. The Beverly Brothers now beat on Koby then put him away with the Shaker Heights Spike (2:23).

Thoughts: The announcers did not pay any attention to the match and talked about the Royal Rumble, with Heenan hinting that Flair will be part of the Rumble match. The future does not appear too bright for the Beverly Brothers.

Reverend Slick talks about wrestlers in the Royal Rumble thinking about the possibility of betrayal from friends and injury and how life is similar but to remember that tough times do not always last but tough people do in a solid promo.

Tatanka vs. Laverne McGill

Tatanka works the arm to start. He then fires up and hits some chops as the announcers talk about Tatanka being in the Rumble match. Tatanka stays in control then uses a Samoan drop for the win (2:05).

Thoughts: Tatanka’s undefeated streak is still pushed as they also hinted as to whether that would be over should he enter the Rumble match and get eliminated.

Kamala w/ Harvey Whippleman & Kimchee vs. Bill Baker

Kamala drops Baker with an overhead chop as Heenan once again says that you have to lean on people like Mike Ditka in order to get results, similar to what Whippleman & Kimchee are doing with Kamala. We then hear from Whippleman with Kimchee saying that Kamala will be stronger than ever because he is listening. Kamala then hits a splash to the back and rolls Baker around until finally stopping and covering for the win (1:38).

Thoughts: If you couldn’t figure it out last week then they made it even clearer that Kamala is going to finally slap after being abused and become a babyface.

Superstars interview with Bret Hart that resulted in Razor Ramon & Ric Flair coming out to attack Bret with Mr. Perfect making the save.

Barry Hardy vs. Bob Backlund

The announcers yell at each other over what happened the previous segment. The clown is back with banana peels as Heenan says he only cares about being the financial consultant of the world champion. Backlund works the arm on the mat as the clown leaves banana peels in the aisle. Backlund lifts up Hardy then catches him with a butterfly suplex and switches to a half-nelson cradle for the win as Heenan proclaims “Opie wins another one” (2:31). After the match, Backlund shakes the hand of Hardy but then ends up skidding on one of the banana peels in the aisle as the clown laughs hysterically.

Thoughts: The clown once again messes with a wrestler as the Backlund push continues. The clown is a lot more interesting.

Clips of the WWF stars at the Make-a-Wish event at Planet Hollywood is shown.

Kerry Davis vs. Shawn Michaels

Shawn uses a hip toss as the announcers put him over. Gorilla plugs the “WWF Magazine” article about Shawn Michaels as Shawn takes Davis down with a high knee. Shawn then hits a super kick before using the teardrop suplex for the win (1:39).

Thoughts: Another impressive showing from Shawn who has really expanded this character without Sherri. Shawn has done a great job as a heel on his own.

In action next week are Marty Jannetty, The Headshrinkers, Nasty Boys, Razor Ramon, and The Undertaker.

We now hear from Flair & Razor as they promise to stop at nothing and have served notice on Bret, stating they will take away his title.

Final Thoughts: We saw all of the key segments from Superstars and the clown messing with another person as the focus going forward will be on the Royal Rumble PPV.
