Especially with what they did with the Iron Man Tournament at Starrcade, would it have made sense to put the NWA Title on Terry Funk when he first fought Flair at GAB'89, and played the feud until December and blow it off at Starrcade '89 instead of having

Sort of like the Jake The Snake-Macho Man feud where Macho Man won every time they met in '91-'92, maybe Jake should have won the 1st meeting at Tuesday in Texas, might have made the feud better.
Maybe, but Funk wanted to lose all the time and Flair wanted to not lose the title, so it wasn't going to work out for either person. I agree though, logical booking at the time is that Funk wins the first match and Flair gets his revenge at a later date.
