Can the Steiners hold off the challenge of the Quebecers? What does Doink have in store for us this week? Let’s find out!

Opening montage.

Match 1 for the WWF tag team titles (Quebec Province rules): Steiners (champions) versus the Quebecers (w/ Johnny Polo)

Highlights:

  • Vince explained that Quebec Province rules detailed that the titles could change hands on a disqualification or countout. Also, piledrivers, top-rope maneuvers, and tossing the opponent over the top rope were “illegal.” Is “Cowboy” Bill Watts booking this match?
  • In addition, this match marked the RAW debut of the Quebecers complete with theme song.
  • Rougeau leap-frogged Rick but got caught and powerslammed during a second attempt.
  • When a Steinerline almost sent Rougeau over the top rope, Ouellet came in and received a powerslam for 2.
  • Scott tagged in and hit a double underhook powerbomb on Ouellet for another 2.
  • As he dropkicked Ouellet, Scott couldn’t get 3.
  • He then gave Ouellet a cross corner whip but ate boot on his follow-through.
  • After Ouellet mounted the second turnbuckle, he delivered a flying clothesline for 2.
  • He then hit a fist drop for another 2.
  • When Scott reversed an Irish whip, he backdropped Ouellet.
  • Rick and Rougeau switched in, and Rick ALMOST lost the titles with a piledriver. Luckily, Scott advised him otherwise. Whew!
  • Following a commercial break, Rick used momentum to send Rougeau between the ropes to the floor.
  • Tags were exchanged on both sides while Ouellet clotheslined Scott out of his boots.
  • As Scott reversed another Irish whip, he delivered an overhead belly-to-belly suplex for 2.
  • He then hooked a single-leg crab, but Rick distracted referee Earl Hebner.
  • During the distraction, Rougeau came in illegally and nailed Scott. SNEAKY!
  • Rick tagged in, hit an elbow drop, and got 2.
  • After he reapplied a single leg crab, Rick got CLOBBERED by Rougeau in plain view of Hebner. Sinister!
  • Scott tagged in, delivered his own elbow drop, and got another 2.
  • When Rick hit a belly-to-belly suplex to Ouellet, Johnny Polo came to ringside wearing a Canadiens jersey and carrying a hockey stick.
  • Rick considered using the top rope, mounted the second turnbuckle instead, attempted a splash, but ate knees. That did NOT look crisp.
  • As Ouellet placed Rick atop the top turnbuckle, he joined and attempted a superplex.
  • On the other hand, Rick countered with a front suplex down to the mat for 2.
  • Following a second commercial break, Rougeau reversed an Irish whip, and Ouellet nailed Scott from behind. How dastardly!
  • Ouellet tagged in, and Rougeau slammed him atop Scott while Rick distracted Hebner again.
  • After Rougeau delivered a Ouellet-assisted splash, he got 2.
  • Ouellet tagged in, and the Quebecers hit a double stungun on Scott.
  • While Rougeau baited Rick to continue distracting Hebner, Ouellet gave Scott the business in the heel corner. Nefarious!
  • Ouellet tagged in, and the Quebecers delivered a school-boy/clothesline combo for another 2.
  • When he slammed Scott, Ouellet mounted the second turnbuckle, hit a Vader bomb, but couldn’t get 3.
  • Rougeau tagged in and hit a flying back elbow for yet another 2.
  • As Ouellet tagged in, he slammed Scott again and tagged in Rougeau.
  • Speaking of Rougeau, he backdropped Ouellet atop Scott.
  • He then gave Scott a cross corner whip but ate a boot to the midsection during his follow-through.
  • After Scott delivered a DDT, Ouellet prevented the hot tag, and Rougeau tossed Scott between the ropes to the floor.
  • He then rammed Scott face-first into the apron and tagged in Ouellet.
  • When Rougeau slammed Scott and hooked a Boston crab, Ouellet mounted the second turnbuckle and hit a leg drop.
  • The Quebecers then attempted the same move again, but Rick caught Ouellet and slammed him down to the mat.
  • As Scott ducked a double clothesline, he hit one of his own.
  • Hot tag Rick.
  • With all four wrestlers in the ring, Scott delivered a Frankensteiner to Ouellet for 2.
  • Polo then got up on the apron, but Rick nailed him.
  • After Rougeau grabbed the hockey stick, Scott stopped him from hitting him with it.
  • He then took it away and hammered Rougeau with it instead.
  • As a result, Hebner called for the bell disqualifying the Steiners.
  • Did that just happen?
  • Yes!
  • WE HAVE NEW CHAMPIONS!

Rating: ****

Summary:  Since a champion’s job is to bring his opponent to his level despite the outcome, the Steiners made the Quebecers look golden. Unfortunately, the rules were not in their favor, and new champions were crowned.

Match 2: Mr. Perfect versus Tony DeVito

Highlights:

  • Perfect gave DeVito a cross corner whip and followed with a clothesline.
  • As Perfect delivered an atomic drop, DeVito reversed an Irish whip and dropkicked him.
  • Perfect then leap-frogged and dropkicked DeVito.
  • While the Manhattan faithful chanted “We Want Shawn,” Perfect hit a Perfectplex.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Perfect won.

  • When he joined Ramon, Executioner rammed him face-first into the steps.
  • Ramon rebounded with a chokeslam and a fallaway slam.
  • As he hooked an abdominal stretch, Ramon placed him atop the top turnbuckle.
  • He then joined and delivered a belly-to-back superplex.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Ramon won.

Rating: ½*

Summary: Showcase match for Ramon.

Promo airs for Monday Night RAW.

In the ring, Vince interviews the NEW WWF tag team champions—the Quebecers. When Vince questions them about a rematch with the Steiners, Polo offers a one-on-one match between a Quebecer and a Steiner. Vince then wants the match to occur next week on RAW while the Steiners come to ringside. While Polo agrees, an expletive gets bleeped. Oops.

Footage airs of Heenan and Savage on the MDA Labor Day telethon.

Match 4: Doink the Clown versus Rich Myers

Highlights:

  • As Doink made his entrance, he tossed a bucket of confetti into the Manhattan faithful.
  • Myers attacked Doink at the onset but received a belly-to-belly suplex in short order.
  • When Doink delivered an elbow drop, he followed with a pumphandle slam.
  • He then hit a release German suplex while Crush was on the phone.
  • After Doink backdropped him, he slammed Myers.
  • He then mounted the top turnbuckle while Crush hung up on Savage.
  • As Doink delivered a Whoopie Cushion, he pinned Myers.

Rating: ½*

Summary: Showcase match for Doink.

After the match, Vince shills the address and phone number for MDA.

Doink then grabs another pail, and Heenan follows him. When Heenan wants him to toss the pail’s contents at Savage, Doink shares a hug with him. Afterward, he DOUSES Heenan with water much to the delight of the Manhattan faithful. WE HAVE A FACE TURN! Heenan then stumbles while the Manhattan faithful chants “Weasel” at him.

After a commercial break, Doink returns, grabs another pail from under the ring, and…wait for it… tosses more confetti into the Manhattan faithful.

Promotional consideration paid for by the following: WWF King of the Ring video game.

Conclusion:  Not only was the Quebecers’ victory a HUGE surprise but also changing the titles on a DQ was both a shock and a first for the WWF. With a one-on-one Steiner-Quebecer match next week, we’ll learn more about the story behind the story.

TV Rating: 1.8 (Yikes!)
