August 30, 1992
From the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, TN
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
Clips of Warrior and Savage from the SummerSlam Spectacular are shown.
Ric Flair w/ Mr. Perfect vs. Gary Jackson
The announcers talk about SummerSlam while Flair toys with Jackson. Flair now chops Jackson before tossing him outside. Flair heads out and hits more chops as Heenan proclaims that Flair will be a very wealthy man at SummerSlam. Perfect chops Jackson then rolls him back inside where Flair locks on the figure four and gets the win (2:50).
Thoughts: More talk about whose corner Mr. Perfect will be in at SummerSlam.
Savage/Warrior interviews from “Superstars are shown.
Brooklyn Brawler vs. Crush
Brawler cheap shots Crush then ducks outside. Brawler returns and gets caught in a side slam as we hear from Repo Man in an insert promo promising to repossess Crush’s career at SummerSlam. Heenan picks Repo Man over Crush due to his experience as Crush overpowers Brawler before putting him away with a head vice (2:19).
Thoughts: The Crush/Repo Man match at the PPV has little fanfare and I do not think anyone thought Repo Man would have a chance to win.
Beverly Brothers w/ The Genius vs. Ken Wayne & Burt Stiles
The Beverly Brothers beat on Wayne to start. The announcers talk about SummerSlam and plug the hotline as we hear from the Beverlys in an insert promo proclaiming themselves as the next Tag Team champions. Stiles tags in and gets his ass kicked then the Beverlys use the Shaker Heights Spike for the win (2:42).
Thoughts: A win for The Beverly Brothers to build them up as challengers but that did not exactly work to perfection.
The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Barry Horowitz
The announcers put over the WWF PPV’s for being three hours long and being the first to use PPV as a vehicle for fans all over to watch. Heenan puts over Kamala as the first person that could hurt the Undertaker. Undertaker beats on Horowitz in the corner to start. He then hits a chokeslam then we hear from Undertaker & Bearer in an insert promo putting over the match against Kamala at SummerSlam. Undertaker hits his ropewalk attack and a clothesline as Heenan tries to sell SummerSlam as the greatest card he has ever seen then a tombstone finishes off Horowitz (1:57). After the match, Undertaker stuffs Horowitz inside of a bodybag as Gorilla says they have a “triple decker” sized bodybag for Kamala. Undertaker then carries Horowitz backstage.
Thoughts: Its amazing how much Undertaker has cooled off as a face. From a dull program with Berzerker to this feud against an aging Kamala. Then again, the roster was depleted on the heel side so really who else could he have feuded with at this point?
The announcers hype “World Tour 1992” Coliseum Home Video release.
Bob Bradley & Iron Mike Sharpe vs. Legion of Doom w/ Paul Ellering & Rocco
The LoD beat on Sharpe as we hear from Money Inc. in an insert promo as they promise to defeat the LoD at SummerSlam. We hear from Rocco on the outside and get some of that wretched material as the LoD now beat on Bradley then hit the Doomsday Device for the win (2:48).
Thoughts: Both Money Inc. and LoD are ice cold as they head into SummerSlam for their match. The Rocco gimmick remains one of the worst things I’ve ever seen since recapping WWF TV starting from January 1984.
The show closes with the announcers selling the PPV as Heenan talks about the Savage/Warrior storyline and how neither man has denied dealing with Mr. Perfect.
Final Thoughts: Just your basic “B” last minute PPV hype show here. The PPV will be next.
