Impact, Indies, and Insanity: October 18, 2018

Impact Wrestling has the fallout show of Bound For Glory.  Matches include Trevor Lee against Ethan Page, Allie taking on Alisha Edwards, and the X Title on the line as Brian Cage defends against Rich Swann.

Your NFL Game of the Week of the Day is Denver/Arizona.  Meanwhile, the NCAA Appetizer is Stanford taking on Arizona State, while Game 5 of the ALCS is tonight as Boston hopes to get to the World Series.

After the jump, we’ll look at the weekend in independent wrestling.

Let’s look at the awesome for the weekend potentially appearing at a venue within 100 miles of you:

  • CMLL will once again be on Claro TV on Friday night as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of Blue Panther’s debut!  He will be in an atomicos match against Los Dinamitas, but the big main event is the trios match of Barbaro Cavernario, El Terrible, and Rush against Caristico, Dave Finlay Jr, and Penta El Cero Miedo!
  • Freelance Wrestling is coming to you from Chicago with their It Came From Under The Ring show on Friday night.  You get Caleb Konley against Craig Mitchell, Ethan Page taking on Jake Manning, the WorkHorsemen defending the tag belts against Isaias Velazquez and Stevie Fierce… but look, the highlight of this show is the Halloween Battle Royal, in which every wrestler who enters will be dressed as a completely different wrestler — and with any luck, will act like them.
  • Glory Pro will be down the road in Sauget at the same time, doing NoNewFriends Uncensored.  You got matches like DJ Z taking on Hakim Zane and Curt Stallion facing Marko Stunt in a bullrope match, but the highlight is a six-man tag of Danny Adams, Mike Outlaw, and Kevin Lee Davidson against Marcus Bagwell, Scott Norton, and Sean Waltman.  That’s right, it’s NNF vs. NWO!
  • On to NOVA Pro in Washington DC’s suburb of Annandale, Virginia (where I will be), as Friday night sees them run the Sadie Hawkins Invitational.  It’s an eight-team mixed doubles tournament with a four-way elimination final, and the gimmick is that the women were allowed to draft their partners.  So, Jordynne Grace drafted Jonathan Gresham, Veda Scott drafted Jason Cade, and some pairing are more oddball (Allie Kat with Maxwell Jacob Friedman?  Terra Calaway with Nick Gage?).  If the Mixed Match Challenge has drained your love of the genre, you can also watch a war as Tim Donst faces off against PCO.
  • PWG will be back in LA for Smokey and the Bandido on Saturday night.  WALTER defends the title against Jeff Cobb, while Bandido himself faces Rey Fenix.  In addition, the Rascalz take on LAX for the tag team titles, while Hechicero has a grappling superfight against Zack Sabre Jr.
  • Wrestling Revolver heads to Des Moines, IA, on Saturday night for Tales From the Ring.  PCO and WALTER will rematch their slugfest that put the old man on the map.  Stunt moves on to face the giant Ace Romero, while Larry D and oVe enter the Cage of Horrors against Cade, Shane Strickland, Palmer, and a mystery partner.
  • Alpha-1 is live on Sunday afternoon from Hamilton, Ontario, with Another Long Halloween.  The Alpha Male title is on the line as Josh Alexander takes on DJ Z, with a new #1 Contender being named in a match with Kobe Durst, PCO, and Rickey Shane Page.  Throw on a grudge match, as Ethan Page faces Friedman, and the Outer Limits title being defended in a scramble.
  • Also Sunday night in Nashville, we get the NWA 70th Anniversary Show.  Cody Rhodes defends the Ten Pounds of Gold in Nick Aldis’ contractual rematch, but this one is 2 out of 3 falls!  In addition, Jazz defends the Women’s title against Penelope Ford, while eight men (Jay Bradley, Mike Parrow, Ricky Starks, Willie Mack, Colt Cabana, Sam Shaw, Sammy Guevara, and Scorpio Sky) will face off over three matches to name the new NWA National Champion!
  • PWX comes to us from Concord, NC, for Monsters Among Us.  Elijah Evans IV defends the heavyweight title in a four-way against John Skyler, David Starr, and WALTER (man, that guy’s everywhere!), while Darius Lockhart defends the iTV title and we have two qualifying matches for their X16 tournament.

Also, Beyond Wrestling put Americanrana ’18 up for free on YouTube!  Tracy Williams vs. Wheeler YUTA!  PCO vs. Brian Cage!  David Starr vs. Joey Janela in a Barbed Wire Ropes Match!  You want all this, right here!

Okay, guys, BRING THE INSANITY!
