WWF Wrestling Challenge – February 16th, 1992

February 16, 1992

From the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum in Lubbock, TX

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

Replay of what happened at “Saturday Night’s Main Event” between Hulk Hogan and Sid Justice, including Justice destroying the Barber Shop.

WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. Same as the Update segment on “Superstars” where we learned of co-main events at WrestleMania with Hogan vs. Sid and Savage vs. Flair.

The Matador vs. Dale Wolfe

Heenan calls Matador’s pants color “guacamole green.” The announcers talk about the news of Hogan vs. Sid at WrestleMania as Heenan says its not fair to Flair. Matador works the arm to start as we get more WrestleMania talk from the announcers. Matador stays in control then hits the El Paso de la Muerte for the win (1:58).

Thoughts: The announcers talked about the change to the WrestleMania WWF World Heavyweight Title match.

The Mountie w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Terry Daniels

Heenan is still pissed over the fact Flair’s WrestleMania opponent has been changed. Mountie beats on Daniels and tosses him outside. Mountie now uses his control techniques as the camera shows a few teens in the crowd starting a “jailbird” chant then Mountie puts Daniels away with a dropkick (1:29). After the match, Mountie shocks Daniels with his cattle prod.

Thoughts: More talk about WrestleMania as they are trying to once again focus on the “jailbird” chants.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter vs. Brooklyn Brawler & Brian Elmore

Duggan starts up a USA chant. Brawler cheap shots Slaughter but ends up getting clotheslined. Duggan & Slaughter now clean house then Gorilla plugs the newest edition of “WWF Magazine” and an article on Slaughter & Duggan. Elmore tags in and Duggan catches him with a slam then puts him away with a clothesline (2:12).

Thoughts: Even as a midcard act the crowd does not care about Duggan & Slaughter. The Slaughter turn had a flimsy premise to begin with and Duggan seems to be getting dragged down by association.

Gorilla plugs the VHS release of “Suburban Commando.”

The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Ed Robinson

The camera shows a fan holding up a foam Undertaker casket. Heenan cracks a few jokes about Mike McGuirk too. The camera then shows a fan holding up an Undertaker t-shirt as Undertaker beats on Robinson. The announcers talk about Sid Justice as Gorilla calls him a liar and a piece of garbage then Undertaker hits the Tombstone for the win (1:12).

Thoughts: We get an odd instance of WWF cameras focusing on merchandise for the heels. This happened with Slaughter before he turned.

Classic WrestleMania Moments are shown.

WrestleMania VIII Report

Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. BA Dalton

The camera shows a few fans with Bret merchandise in the crowd. Gorilla tells us that next week we will see the Savage/Jake match from SNME. Bret clotheslines Dalton then drops him with a headbutt then a boot in the corner before using the Sharpshooter for the win (1:25).

Thoughts: Like Superstars, this SNME bonus footage from Jake/Savage will also be shown.

Next week in action are Shawn Michaels, Papa Shango, and the New Foundation.

Final Thoughts: Most of the focus was the SNME fallout and we saw that the WrestleMania main event had been changed. The big sell for next week’s syndicated TV is the chance to see Jake vs. Savage in its entirety as well as this bonus footage.
