WWF Wrestling Challenge – December 1st, 1991

December 1, 1991

From the Springfield Civic Center in Springfield, MA

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

We are shown the announcements from WWF President Jack Tunney from Survivor Series where he reinstated Randy Savage and put him against Jake Roberts for This Tuesday in Texas and announced he would be at ringside for the Undertaker vs. Hogan rematch.

The Berzerker w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Ross Greenberg

The announcers talk about This Tuesday in Texas as Berzerker beats down Greenberg. Berzerker ties up Greenberg in the ropes and hits a boot to the face then tosses him outside and gets the win via count out (2:55).

Thoughts: Nothing new from The Berzerker as the announcers focused on the This Tuesday in Texas PPV.

Barry Horowitz & Duane Gill vs. New Foundation

This is the debut of the New Foundation. The New Foundation are Jim Neidhart and Owen Hart, announced as Bret’s brother by Gorilla. Owen also has the same baggy pants as Neidhart. Owen shows off his athleticism until Horowitz pokes the eyes. Owen comes back with a double dropkick then tags out as Neidhart clears the ring with a double clothesline. Neidhart then assists Owen with a suicide dive but Owen tells Neidhart not to fly out himself. Back inside, Neidhart beats on Gill as the announcers talk about This Tuesday in Texas. The New Foundation stay in control until they put Gill away with a rocket launcher (3:44).

Thoughts: Owen returns to the WWF but this time as himself. He looked great in the ring and did a lot of high-flying stuff. With Neidhart getting attacked by the Beverly Brothers a few weeks ago it makes sense that he now has a partner but there was not anything said as to why Owen was his partner but with the “Foundation” name and Neidhart teaming with his ex-partner’s younger brother I guess we were supposed to assume.

The same Undertaker & Paul Bearer promo to hype up This Tuesday in Texas that aired on “Superstars of Wrestling” airs. In fact all of those promos were repeated on this show.

We are shown Repo Man costing Virgil the Million Dollar Title at the Survivor Series Showdown then El Matador saving Virgil from having a $100 bill shoved into his mouth. This will lead to a tag match at This Tuesday in Texas.

Virgil vs. Brian Costello

Heenan makes fun of Virgil, who beats on Costello. Virgil flies out with a pescado then yells into the camera before hitting a chop. Back inside, Virgil hits a clothesline then drops an elbow. Virgil then hits a swinging neckbreaker before we hear from El Matador in an insert promo telling DiBiase that Virgil has a partner for This Tuesday in Texas. Virgil stays in control then uses the Million Dollar Dream for the win (3:00).

Thoughts: Based off this match and the previous segment you can see they are moving Virgil into a feud with Repo Man while El Matador seems to be paired against DiBiase.

We are shown Sgt. Slaughter saving Jim Duggan from last week’s beatdown by the Nasty Boys.

Col. Mustafa w/ Gen. Adnan vs. Al Phillips

Jameson is once again shown at ringside. Mustafa beats down Phillips and clotheslines him with his belt. Gorilla promises us uncensored footage of Savage being bit Jake’s king cobra as Mustafa stays in control. Mustafa takes advice from Adnan, hopefully about a new career opportunity for the both of them, and finally puts Phillips away with the Camel’s Clutch (2:19).

Thoughts: The Mustafa & Adnan pairing is among the worst of this era. They were horrible together and had zero heat. Jamison in the crowd is something to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks.

Savage and Jake hype up their match This Tuesday in Texas.

Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Chris Duffy

Heenan once again talks about Jack Tunney being on the take as Duffy rakes Bret’s eyes. Bret counters a piledriver attempt with a back drop then takes control of the match before the Sharpshooter gets the win (2:51).

Thoughts: Once again we heard Heenan vent about Tunney. No mention of Bret facing Barbarian on the PPV here in a match announced on Superstars.

British Bulldog tells us to read “WBF Magazine” to get his bodybuilding and nutrition tips and tells Warlord to read it and read it good. While not announced, Bulldog would face Warlord at This Tuesday in Texas.

The Natural Disasters vs. Jason Hedding & Mario Mancini

The Disasters beat on Hedding then start yelling at Jameson. The announcers tell us to by This Tuesday in Texas as The Disasters continue to destroy Hedding. Mancini is tossed outside then the Disasters use a splash combo for the win (3:25). After the match, Jameson shows his displeasure while Earthquake calls out the Legion of Doom.

Thoughts: More hype for the cold LoD/Natural Disasters feud. They would actually have a match on the WWF/SWS Super Wrestle show that I will be recapping.

Hogan promo from “Superstars of Wrestling” airs.

The announcers tell us that next week we will have results of the PPV.

Final Thoughts: Besides the New Foundation debut the rest of this was the same This Tuesday in Texas hype we saw on Superstars.
