From the Brown County Arena in Green Bay, WI
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan, and Jim Neidhart
In action this week are the British Bulldog, Nasty Boys, Virgil, Irwin R. Schyster, Texas Tornado, and Tugboat
British Bulldog vs. Frank DeFalco
Neidhart compliments Winston as Bulldog overpowers DeFalco. Gorilla tells us that WWF President Jack Tunney has confirmed that Bulldog is in fact the #1 contender for the Intercontinental Title. We hear from Mr. Perfect in an insert promo as he tells Bulldog that on his best day he will not be able to take the belt away. Bulldog stays in control then puts DeFalco away with a running powerslam (2:16).
Thoughts: Generic hype for the Perfect/Bulldog feud which actually beats hearing a bunch of dog puns.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. We are shown Sgt. Slaughter along with Col. Mustafa & Gen. Adnan as they brutalize an audience member on “Prime Time Wrestling” by putting him through their boot camp. They were extra vicious because he was wearing Hulk Hogan memorabilia and the guy ends up quitting. Lord Alfred says many superstars want to avenge this act, especially Hulk Hogan himself. This was an attempt to add more fuel to the Hogan/Slaughter feud.
Dan Johnson vs. Tugboat
Tugboat clotheslines Johnson in the corner. We then hear from Tugboat in an insert promo and compares himself to a hungry, great white shark. Tugboat rams Johnson into the corner a few times then puts him away with a splash (2:01).
Thoughts: Tugboat was more aggressive than usual here both in the match and on his promo. He is still without a feud.
WBF Superstar Troy Zuccolotto says he is not worried about the Championship because Hogan gave him some tips. Or perhaps some Python Powder.
Nasty Boys w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Ricky Rice & Al Burke
The Nasty boys beat on Rice as we hear from the Legion of Doom in an insert promo saying they are not afraid of anything. Burke is in now and gets his face rammed into Knobbs’ armpit. The Nasty Boys continue to brutalize Burke until they put him away with a running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo (3:16).
Thoughts: More hype for the Nasty Boys/Legion of Doom feud over the Tag Team Titles.
Irwin R. Schyster vs. Gary Jackson
Heenan says that IRS saved him $280 on his taxes. IRS beats on Jackson then uses an abdominal stretch then soon after that uses the Write Off for the win (2:39).
Thoughts: IRS is not getting heel heat with the crowds and his matches are boring. Not the start you want for a character that had a lot of time invested on through insert promos.
Sean Mooney is in the Event Center. We hear from Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage as they will be in attendance of the WBF Championship. We then see Tony Pearson, who Mooney calls a “ripped, Michael Jackson lookalike.” That isn’t selling me on a bodybuilding show. Then again, nothing would sell me on a bodybuilding show.
Another WBF Championship ad airs.
Virgil vs. Brian Costello
Virgil beats on Costello as we hear from Ted DiBiase & Sensational Sherri, claiming Virgil can become a boxer…….of fruits. Virgil slams Costello and continues to dance around and punch away before using the Million Dollar Dream for the win (2:54).
Thoughts: DiBiase’s promo was amusing in a corny way as his feud with Virgil is amping up again.
Ultimate Warrior tells us about the Personal Fitness Expo and the WBF Championship.
Barber Shop with guests The Mountie & Jimmy Hart. Mountie tells the Big Bossman he is just like every other local, hick cop and that this is his jurisdiction. Mountie also gloats over kicking Bossman’s butt then Hart says while Beefcake has a portable barber chair, Mountie has a portable electric chair. I liked that line. Beefcake tells Mountie after Bossman is through with him he’ll have a short circuit. Solid promo as the Mountie/Bossman feud continues.
Bob Bradley vs. Texas Tornado
Tornado trips Bradley, who spills outside. Tornado opens the ropes for Bradley but gets cheap-shotted. Tornado then heads out and hammers away before rolling Bradley back inside. He puts Bradley in the claw as Heenan jokes about Tornado being an idiot and gets the win (3:05). After the match, Tornado refuses to break and tosses Bradley outside.
Thoughts: Tornado was really aggressive here and in a way you would expect a heel turn to come soon. He is still without a feud and is getting worse with each appearance.
Another ad to hype the WBF Championship airs.
The Warlord w/ Slick vs. Buck Zumhoffe
Warlord drops Zumhoffe with a lifting choke and soon after that puts him away with a full nelson (1:11).
Thoughts: Warlord continues to rack up squash match wins on TV.
Next week in action are The Berzerker, Bret Hart, Ted DiBiase, Jake Roberts, and The Undertaker. Plus, Legion of Doom as guests on the “Barber Shop” and more!
Final Thoughts: The Mountie & Jimmy Hart stuff on the “Barber Shop” was good but the rest was forgettable. A lot of guys without any feuds or direction were shown and nothing you needed to see took place.
