WWF Superstars of Wrestling – October 20, 1990

October 20, 1990

From the Toledo Sports Arena in Toledo, OH

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper

This week, we will see highlights from Hulk Hogan & Tugboat vs. Rhythm & Blues that took place on “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” Also from SNME is Koko B. Ware vs. Sgt Slaughter. And, we will see the Legion of Doom and Texas Tornado in action. The SNME clips were not shown on the copy of the show that I watched.

Legion of Doom defeat Brian Costello & James Saxton from the 10/15 edition of “Prime Time Wrestling.”

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We are shown clips from when Queen Sherri slapped the Ultimate Warrior three times on the “Brother Love Show” then saw how last week the Ultimate Warrior forced Brother Love to wear a wig and dress so Macho King Randy Savage can hide behind another woman. We then hear from Savage, who tells Warrior he can put wigs and dresses on whoever he wants and says he is too much man for Warrior to handle.

Shane Douglas defeats “Pistol” Pez Whatley in a match first shown on the 10/15 edition of “Prime Time Wrestling.” Funny moment on commentary as Vince tells us that Douglas has “quite a list of credentials” so Piper puts him on the spot and asks what they are as Vince struggles and comes up with the fact Douglas is in great shape and has three years experience. This was billed as Shane’s debut despite the fact he’s appeared on Prime Time Wrestling for the past few months.

We see that Jake Roberts is back at the doctor’s office. The doctor tells Jake his vision should improve over time then removes the dressing. The camera zooms in on Jake’s eye as he is trying to open his eye but is in too much pain. Jake continues to struggle and says everything is cloudy as we see that his entire right eye is white.

Brother Love Show is up next. Martel is on the set and sprays the set before guests Rick Rude & Bobby Heenan enter. Brother Love asks Rude if he meant what he said about the Big Bossman’s mother. Rude says he does then uses more insults to describe her and they are really not good at all. Heenan brings up how Bossman dragged him to the ring and handcuffed him to the guardrail then Rude vows to get revenge. One of Rude’s final appearances with the company. He quit then the Bossman feud was switched back over to Heenan as those two would close out the year in matches on house shows.

Texas Tornado vs. Paul Diamond

Diamond attacks Tornado from behind and backs him into the corner. Tornado fights back then Diamond bails as Vince tells us that he has an article in this month’s “WWF Magazine.” Vince then puts over Tornado’s instant success in the WWF then soon after that Tornado hits a discus punch for the win (2:00).

Thoughts: They continue to give Tornado a strong push while his feud against Mr. Perfect rolls on.

Survivor Series Report with Gene Okerlund. We learn of a new match here The Mercenaries (Sgt. Slaughter & Akeem & The Orient Express) vs. The Alliance (Nikolai Volkoff & Tito Santana & The Bushwhackers).

JD Wolfe & SD Jones vs. Power & Glory w/ Slick

Wolfe’s attire needs to be seen to be believed. The Rockers are shown in an insert promo vowing revenge against Power & Glory as SD messes around with Roma. Hercules provides a distraction as that allows Roma to attack SD from behind. Wolfe tags in and gets destroyed as Vince alerts us that he was just handed a note saying Jake Roberts will return next week as a guest on the “Brother Love Show.” Power & Glory stay in control until they put Wolfe away with the Power Plex (2:59).

Thoughts: Power & Glory continue to impress but the big news was learning about Jake returning to TV after getting Arrogance sprayed into his eyes.

Next week, Davey Boy Smith will make his return. Also in action are The Warlord, Big Bossman, Demolition, and The Rockers. Also, highlights from the Dusty Rhodes vs. Macho King Randy Savage match that took place at “Saturday Night’s Main Event.”

The show closes as they cut back to Brother Love & Rick Martel, who laughs then says “seeing is believing” regarding Jake’s rumored appearance next week. Martel was great at being an insincere jerk.

Final Thoughts: They focused on the current TV feuds here. Also, Shane Douglas was introduced on the syndicated shows and we learned that Davey Boy Smith will be making his return to the company as we are a month away from the Survivor Series PPV.
