WWF Wrestling Challenge – August 26th, 1990

August 26, 1990

From the Springfield Civic Center in Springfield, MA

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan

This week, we will see the Brother Love Show with guest Hulk Hogan. Also in action are Mr. Perfect, Hart Foundation, and Ted DiBiase.

Hart Foundation vs. Barry O. & Chris Duffy

Bret takes Barry over with a hip toss after an Irish whip. They both miss elbow drops then Bret takes control. Barry is sent up-and-over the corner then Duffy comes in and gets tossed out too. We see Demolition in an insert as they tell the Hart Foundation they do not have a clue which two of them to prepare for and they will walk out with the belts. Duffy is now the legal man as the Hart Foundation work him over until they get the win with a Hart Attack (3:21).

Thoughts: An easy win for the Hart Foundation to give them a bit of momentum heading into their Tag Title match at SummerSlam.

WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. Attack on Tugboat was shown with the news that he would be out at SummerSlam.

“Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. Mario Mancini

Heenan makes fun of Bossman’s mother on commentary. DiBiase starts off by working the arm then drops an elbow on the back of Mancini’s neck. Mancini avoids an elbow drop and lands a chop but misses a crossbody as DiBiase hits a suplex then softens him up for the Million Dollar Dream (2:35).

Thoughts: The focus was on Heenan making fun of Bossman’s mother again. DiBiase does not have a match at the PPV but they did hint he will be there in some fashion.

SummerSlam Report with Gene Okerlund.

Mr. Perfect w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Scott Colontonio

Perfect hammers away as the Texas Tornado is in an insert promo telling Perfect that the Intercontinental Title will be his at SummerSlam. Perfect embarrasses Colontonio, who manages to take him over with a hip toss, then uses a single leg takedown before hitting the Perfect Plex for the win (1:51).

Thoughts: A dominating performance from Perfect to make him stronger heading into his title defense at SummerSlam.

Brother Love Show with guest Hulk Hogan. This was from the 8/25 “Superstars of Wrestling” show where he announced that the Big Bossman would be in his corner at SummerSlam.

Sgt. Sluaghter tells us “maggots” that he will be on the “Brother Love Show” at SummerSlam and will declare war against us and Nikolai Volkoff.

Shane Douglas & Mark Thomas vs. The Orient Express w/ Mr. Fuji

Douglas and Tanaka start off with a fast-paced sequence. Douglas hits a dropkick but runs into an elbow smash. Sato tags as Douglas takes him over with a hip toss but runs into a knee smash then tags out. The Orient Express beat down Thomas as we hear from Volkoff & Jim Duggan in an insert promo as they tell them it will be a fight at SummerSlam. The Orient Express stay in control then Sato gets the win with a sit-out powerbomb (1:43).

Thoughts: Some last minute hype for the Orient Express vs. Duggan & Volkoff match at SummerSlam.

Next week in action are Koko B. Ware, Rhythm & Blues, Big Bossman, and Tugboat. Plus, an update on SummerSlam and an interview with Sgt. Slaughter. Heenan then promises that Rick Rude will win the belt at SummerSlam.

Final Thoughts: Just last minute hype for SummerSlam here. The main segments were from “Superstars” as the PPV is just one day away. I also found it telling how they told you Tugboat would be back in action next week as that tells me they felt he was not over enough to be in Hogan’s corner. Other than that, we will see the fallout from SummerSlam develop.
