August 5, 1990
From the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Des Moines, IA
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
In action this week are Ted DiBiase, Legion of Doom, Big Bossman, and The Orient Express.
Big Bossman vs. Al Burke
Heenan is ragging on the people of Iowa something fierce to start off the show. Bossman catches Burke with a backbreaker then stays in control until hitting the sidewalk slam for the win (1:15).
Thoughts: Another win for Bossman, whose feud with DiBiase has been downplayed so he can be the special guest referee at SummerSlam.
Hogan interview from SNME
Ted DiBiase defeats Ricky Rice in a match first shown on the 7/30 edition of “Prime Time Wrestling.”
Hart Foundation defeats Black Bart & Kent Carlson in a match first shown on the 7/30 edition of “Prime Time Wrestling.”
SummerSlam Report from “Superstars of Wrestling.”
Gene Okerlund welcomes Dusty Rhodes & Sapphire to the interview platform. Sapphire is sporting a diamond necklace and bracelet. Okerlund asks Sapphire about her jewelry as she then pulls out a brochure for a cruise around the world as Dusty does not know who has been giving these gifts but he loves them. He then talks about Sapphire “whippin'” Queen Sherri at SummerSlam then talks about not having kings and queens while growing up in Texas then says he is looking for satisfaction at SummerSlam by beating Macho King Randy Savage and will get it when he beats him in the ring. Regarding these gifts, its quite easy to see where this will end up. Anyway, this feud is getting stale but Dusty still managed to cut a good promo, to the shock of no one.
“Texas Tornado” Kerry Von Erich vs. Brooklyn Brawler
Kerry backs Brawler into the corner to start then shoves him down. He comes back with a clothesline then a slam before the discus punch gets him the win (1:53).
Thoughts: Kerry dominated the match and was very much over with the female fans. Its clear they are pushing him strong but he has not looked good at all in his first two televised matches.
The Sgt. Slaughter vignette from the 8/4 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling” airs.
Legion of Doom vs. “Playboy” Buddy Rose & Tom Bennett
The LoD clothesline Rose outside then destroy Bennett as we hear from Demolition in an insert promo as they promise to give LoD an attitude adjustment. The LoD continue to beat on Bennett and put him away with the Doomsday Device (1:12).
Thoughts: Same formula as the other squash matches where one guy gets knocked out of the ring while the other is disposed of in a minute. Also, more hype for the eventual
The Orient Express defeat Jim Evans & Randy Fox in a match first shown on the 7/30 edition of “Prime Time Wrestling.”
In action next week are The Rockers, Rick Rude, Texas Tornado, Earthquake, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
Final Thoughts: Not much of a show this week as its generic SummerSlam hype with the key stuff coming from other shows.
