From the Dane County Expo Centre in Madison, WI
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
Unfortunately, I was unable to track down a copy of this show that featured Rick Rude beating Sonny Rogers in Rude’s first match on TV since his promos against the Ultimate Warrior started to air.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes, also sporting the Hulk Hogan Friendship Bracelet. This is the same thing we saw from this week’s “Superstars of Wrestling” where Tugboat told us that Hulk Hogan really needs our support.
Black Bart vs. Big Bossman
Bossman attacks Bart from behind then beats on him outside of the ring. We hear from Ted DiBiase in an insert promo as he makes fun of everyone from Cobb County, GA for being dumb rednecks. Back inside, Bossman hits an elbow smash then hits the sidewalk slam for the win (1:55). After the match, Bart is cuffed to the ropes then beat with the nightstick.
Thoughts: DiBiase continues to rag on Bossman by insulting his town and trying to run his name through the mu. The fans are still into Bossman as a face even though he is cuffing and beating people after the match for no reason.
Akeem w/Slick vs. Scott Colton
Akeem beats down Colton to start. He stays on the attack as Slick is in all his glory then gets the win with a splash (1:36).
Thoughts: Akeem was really being phased out and would not appear again on weekly TV until the end of the Summer. He left the company soon after that.
The Rockers vs. Tom Bennett & Jeff Johnson
Mr. Fuji & The Orient Express are shown in an insert promo as they are not impressed with The Rockers, who are working over Bennett. Johnson makes the tag and lands a few shots in the corner but gets knocked down with a back elbow smash. Marty works over Johnson then hits the Rocker Dropper. Bennett runs in for the save but Shawn knocks him outside then The Rockers put Johnson away with a double flying fist drop (3:36).
Thoughts: More hype for the Rockers/Orient Express feud, which continues to roll along.
Gene Okerlund welcomes Earthquake & Jimmy Hart to the interview platform. Hart is laughing then reads a few letters that have come in for Earthquake that are all happy he put Hulk Hogan out of wrestling. Earthquake then tells us he came to the WWF for the top competitors and takes credit for having Hogan lose the WWF Title. He then said his goal is to put Hogan out of wrestling as clips of his attack on Hogan from the “Brother Love Show” are shown. Earthquake then proclaims that Hogan is finished and that Hulkamania is dead. Okerlund then brings up Hacksaw Jim Duggan as Earthquake flips out and says a 2×4 has no place in wrestling and promises to put Duggan out just like he did with Hogan. Earthquake did a good job with his promos. They really put him over as a major threat with how many times they replayed his attack on Hogan.
Al Burke vs. Dusty Rhodes w/Sapphire
Dusty tosses Burke outside then slingshots him back into the ring. Dusty lands a few punches as Gorilla plugs the “WWF Magazine” article on Dusty & Sapphire as Dusty hits the Bionic Elbow for the win (1:43).
Thoughts: More hype for the Dusty/Randy Savage feud.
Koko B. Ware & Jim Evans vs. The Orient Express w/ Mr. Fuji
Poor Koko is now doing TV enhancement work. Koko starts off running wild on both men. Evans tags and lands a few shots but runs into a back elbow smash. Koko rallies the crowd behind Evans as The Rockers are shown in an insert promo with Gorilla asking if they see any flaws in the Orient Express. They give some generic response and finish by saying they’ll be rockin’ and rollin’. Sato tags in and finishes off Evans with a sit out powerbomb (3:02).
Thoughts: A second segment this show revolving around the Rockers/Orient Express feud. It would appear there would be another match between the two teams again in the near future.
Final Thoughts: The Earthquake promo was really good but the rest of the main segments were rehashed from “Superstars of Wrestling.”
