Is there a particular reason that tournaments, like King of the Ring, did away with the "3 matches in one night" dynamic and went to just semi-finals & finals? Is it purely because the past had workers like Bret & Owen who could handle wrestling 3 different matches and now there’s less freedom there? Was there too much injury risk? Too hard for writers/bookers to do full tournaments?
I remember recently the Survivor Series tournament for the WWE Title that Roman win was hampered by only having to win twice took some of the accomplishment feeling away for me…
It’s mostly because tournaments are DEATH as a main attraction and they want to advertise as many other matches as possible, so you get the half-assed semi-finals and finals format instead of the manly "win four matches in one night" format that might actually get someone over.
