November 26, 1989
From the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita, KS
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Gorilla Monsoon. Tony Schiavone is still on vacation, according to Vince.
In action this week are Mr. Perfect, The Rockers, Rick Rude, Brutus Beefcake, and the Powers of Pain. Plus, the Randy Savage vs. Hercu
The Rockers vs. Al Burke & Bobby Jaggers
Jaggers cheaphots Marty, who was on the apron, then ducks outside after an Irish whip sequence only for Marty to attack then roll him back inside. We hear from The Rockers in an insert promo talking about taking on all teams as Marty works over Jaggers. Burke is in now as Shawn hits him with a suplex. The Rockers stay in control until they put Burke away with a double flying fist drop (3:20).
Thoughts: Good showcase for the Rockers here. Jaggers was pathetically out of shape here though. He could barely run the ropes.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. This week’s topic is the “No Holds Barred” PPV with features the movie and the steel cage tag match of Randy Savage & Zeus vs. Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake. We then hear from Savage & Zeus as they are behind the blue bars with Sherri in front.
Warren Bianchi vs. Mr. Perfect w/ The Genius
The Genius does the ring introduction for Perfect, who grabs Bianchi by the throat and says he will teach him a lesson. Perfect is then shown in an insert promo reminding Hogan of his Perfect record as he is in control of the match. He yells for competition as he beats on Bianchi then gets the win with a Perfect Plex (1:53).
Thoughts: A dominating performance from Mr. Perfect as he is Hogan’s next opponent around the house show circuit.
Jim Neidhart is backstage playing the “WrestleMania” video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
“Rugged” Ronnie Garvin vs. Brooklyn Brawler
Brawler cheap shots Garvin in the corner but Garvin fights back. We hear from Greg Valentine in an insert promo as he promises they will call Garvin “ragged” once he is through with him. Brawler rakes the eyes as the announcers make fun of his appearance and body odor but Garvin knocks him down, hits the Garvin Stomp, then puts him away with the Scorpion Death Lock (2:14).
Thoughts: The Valentine and Garvin feud continues. Its been going on for close to several months at this point.
Sean Mooney is in the Event Center to hype the 12/9 Boston Garden show. Dusty Rhodes tells the Big Bossman he will shackle him with the ball-and-chain and give the key to the common people to put over their match as Greg Valentine & Jimmy Hart run down Garvin as Valentine says he will hurt him and not have his reputation tarnished.
“Ravishing” Rick Rude w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Mark Regan
Rude addresses the crowd as “Kansas Sweat Hogs.” Regan surprises Rude with a pair of dropkicks but has his head taken off with a clothesline. Rude takes over as we hear from Roddy Piper in an insert promo asking Rude why isn’t he laughing anymore? Back to the match as Rude stays in control then puts him away with the Rude Awakening (1:58). After the match, Rude refuses to give the woman a kiss, saying she is like “Miss Piggy” and a typical “Kansas Sweat Hog.”
Thoughts: This was used to put over the Rude/Piper feud.
Mooney is back in the Event Center to hype the 12/9 Boston Garden show. The Bushwhackers act crazy to put over their match against the Bolsheviks then Mr. Perfect & The Genius run down Hogan to sell the main event of the show.
Rick Martel models clothes with Lord Alfred Hayes giving us commentary.
Don Demmel vs. Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake
Demmel has a gut and a mullet and well, its easy to see why they had him go against Beefcake. Demmel lands some strikes in the corner to start but Beefcake fights back. We hear from Beefcake in an insert promo as he tells Martel if he wants to be impressed, check out his photo in the 1990 WWF Calendar before he puts Demmel away with the sleeper (2:09). After the match, Beefcake gives Demmel a haircut.
Thoughts: The Beefcake/Martel feud continues on here.
Gene Okerlund welcomes Big Bossman & Slick to the interview platform. Bossman holds the ball-and-chain as Slick addresses “fat boy” Dusty Rhodes and how he will get punishment and a present he does not have to steal. Bossman tells Dusty he made the biggest mistake of his life by stealing his stuff and will treat him like a criminal. Decent promos by both men.
We are shown some of the Hercules vs. Macho King Randy Savage from the Survivor Series Showdown. You can read the recap of this show by clicking here
Powers of Pain w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Todd Becker & Ray Oakley
The Barbarian beats on Oakley to start. Warlord drags Oakley over so he can tag out then beats on Becker and soon after that lifts him up as The Barbarian comes off the top rope with a clothesline for the win (1:51).
Thoughts: Per usual, crowd was dead for the Powers of Pain, who were never really able to get heel heat in the WWF. On commentary they were talking about them feuding with The Rockers, which if you could not get heel heat on them you might as well call it quits.
Mooney is back in the Event Center to hype the Boston Garden show. Dino Bravo is with Jimmy Hart & Canadian Earthquake as he runs down Tito Santana, even promising to get rid of him. Slick & Big Bossman once again promise to beat Dusty Rhodes and shackle him with the ball-and-chain.
In action next week are The Bushwhackers, Rick Martel, Dino Bravo, and Jake Roberts. Plus, a special interview with Roddy Piper and highlights from the Ultimate Warrior vs. Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan vs. The Genius matches from “Saturday Night’s Main Event” as the show closes with comments from the competitors. You can read the recap of that show by clicking here
Final Thoughts: Not much of a show. They still have not mentioned the Survivor Series results as the fallout from that show has yet to occur. They pushed the Perfect vs. Hogan feud a bit though and hyped up SNME but the rest was setting up midcard feuds.
