From the Louisville Gardens in Louisville, KY
Your hosts are Tony Schiavone and Gorilla Monsoon
In action this week are Jake Roberts, The Brainbusters, Big Bossman, and Jimmy Snuka. Plus, an interview with Roddy Piper and more!
Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Barry Horowitz
Jake works the arm as we hear from Ted DiBiase in an insert promo as he promises to put Jake out of commission again. Horowitz fights back but wastes time taunting the fans and Jake fights back then hits the DDT for the win, to the delight of the fans (2:13). After the match, Jake dumps Damien on top of Horowitz.
Thoughts: More hype for the DiBiase/Roberts feud, which is heating back up.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. We learn of the Survivor Series team captains and later on in the show will find out who will be part of these teams.
Red Rooster vs. Jim Merkel
Rooster backs Merkel in the corner after the latter tried a sneak attack. We hear from the Honky Tonk Man in an insert promo as he promises to play a tune on him. Rooster knocks Merkel down then dodges a clothesline as Merkel dumps outside. Merkel enters the ring and shortly after that Rooster puts him away with the chicken wing (1:29).
Thoughts: Rooster is now being moved into a program with the Honky Tonk Man, which is at least a step up from the Brooklyn Brawler.
Sean Mooney is in the Event Center to run down the 11/13 Nashville Auditorium show. Rick Rude & Bobby Heenan run down Roddy Piper to hype their lumberjack match then Brutus Beefcake promises to take care of Rick Martel.
Big Bossman w/ Slick & Akeem vs. James Sexton
We hear from Dusty Rhodes in an insert promo as he taunts Bossman with the stuff he stole from him as he promises to serve out justice. Bossman dumps Sexton outside as Akeem tosses him back in so Bossman can inflict more pain. Bossman beats Sexton down some more then puts him away with a sidewalk slam (1:51). After the match, Akeem hits Sexton with a splash then helps Bossman cuff the poor guy so he can get hit with a nightstick.
Thoughts: The Bossman/Dusty feud is still heavily pushed on TV.
Miss Elizabeth shills the “No Holds Barred” home video release.
Tony Burton vs. Tito Santana
Burton complains of a hairpull then shoves Tito, who gets pissed and clotheslines him over the top rope. Tito heads out and tosses Burton back in where he works the arm. Tito hammers away and hits a backdrop before getting the win with a flying forearm (2:01).
Thoughts: With Ricik Martel moving on to a feud with Brutus Beefcake, Tito is now left without any direction.
Sean Mooney is in the Event Center and runs down the Survivor Series card.
Mark Young & Bill Woods vs. The Brainbusters w/ Bobby Heenan
Young hangs in there with Arn then hits a slam. Tully tags in as Young slingshots with a sunset flip but Tully fights back. We hear from Demolition in an insert promo as they promise to get revenge on The Brainbusters. Woods is in now as Tully runs him into the corner as The Brainbusters stay in control until Arn hits a piledriver for the win (2:51).
Thoughts: The feud between Demolition and the Brainbusters continue as they build to a title rematch.
Gene Okerlund welcomes Roddy Piper to the interview platform. Piper talks about how he agreed to do “Piper’s Pit” at WrestleMania then months later got a call to be the co-host of “Prime Time Wrestling,” where he started rattling Heenan’s cage after Heenan was taunting him then Rick Rude came on and got in his face. Piper makes fun of Rude’s bad breath then laughs over Rude losing the Intercontinental Title. He then talks about receiving a telegram to appear on the “Brother Love Show” and knew something was going on so he brought his hygiene kit. Piper says Rude hit him with his Rude Awakening but he got up as he talks about how will take care of the Heenan Family one by one and promises Rude he will make Hurricane Hugo look like a Summer breeze. Long, but effective promo by Piper. His feud with Rude was one of the best TV feuds the WWF had going at this time.
Dino Bravo w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Red Tyler
Bravo does pushups with Hart on his back before the bell rings. He then runs over Tyler and hammers away in the corner as we hear him calling out others, proclaiming himself as the World’s Strongest Man. Bravo taunts the crowd then hits the side slam for the win (1:15).
Thoughts: They are still giving Bravo the strongman push as he has added pushups to his act.
We get a brief video on Mr. Perfect then a clip from last week’s “Brother Love Show” segment where The Genius introduces Perfect as his protege.
“Superfly” Jimmy Snuka vs. Alan Reynolds
Snuka beats on Reynolds to start. We hear from Snuka in an insert promo saying he is not perfect but good enough to defeat Mr. Perfect. Snuks stays in control of the match then puts Reynolds away with the Superfly Splash (2:08).
Thoughts: They are keeping Snuka strong for his feud against Mr. Perfect, so Perfect can look better when he wins.
Mooney is back is in the Event Center to hype the 11/13 Nashville Auditorium show. The Rougeaus make fun of The Rockers to hype their match then Hacksaw Jim Duggan tells Macho King Randy Savage that he will beat him up.
Next week in action are Jim Duggan, Honky Tonk Man, The Bushwhackers, The Widowmaker, and the Ultimate Warrior. We then hear from Ted DiBiase & Zeus and Hulk Hogan to hype up their “Saturday Night’s Main Event” match.
Final Thoughts: They did some Survivor Series hype along with focus on the other TV feuds going on at the time. Going forward, expect more attention given to the Survivor Series until the PPV happens.
