Dean Ambrose: Man in the Middle

Hey Scott, Andy PG checking in:

I’d like to make the case that Dean Ambrose is the face of a backstage tug-of-war between Vince McMahon and HHH over the booking of the WWE. Look at his career:

  • We have been told by several sources the Shield kept objecting to being broken up. Since then, Rollins and Reigns have been good soldiers and had no real punishment matches. Since Mr. McMahon loves to hold a grudge, it implies who the guy raising the arguments was.
  • His first feud post-split ended when he stared like a deer in the headlights.
  • His next feud ended when he forgot to unplug a TV monitor.
  • He was one of the people who was ragdolled out of the ring to make Kane and Big Show look good for Roman Reigns to beat.
  • When he recovered, it was to become the sidekick to Reigns — existing so that Roman could go over.
  • Then he got shepherded to "NXT Kliq" member Kevin Owens and his career was revitalized. Sure, it’s the I-C title, but it counts.
  • He, not Reigns, was the man HHH last eliminated in the 2016 Rumble.
  • He then fought HHH himself, and despite the whole world knowing he had to lose, they got the Toronto crowd to buy a false finish.
  • Then Brock Lesnar happened and he was squashed like a bug.
  • Then Chris Jericho happened and the Asylum nearly killed his momentum dead.
  • Then they put the belt on him due to Roman’s suspension, and suddenly he’s the first champ of SmackDown, pinning Rollins and Dolph Ziggler before getting a run with AJ Styles and John Cena. On a related note, Vince doesn’t interfere with SmackDown the way he does with Raw.

It wouldn’t surprise me if HHH saw him as a top flight guy and Vince didn’t, and the bizarre booking arc above is a reflection of who’s controlling his career at what time.

I dunno, to be honest I haven’t really thought about it that hard. Ambrose just seems like a guy who stuff happens to.

On a related note, there’s apparently ANOTHER PPV this Sunday? What the actual f---?
