Mike Tyson 1990

> To respond to the earlier posting, Mike Tyson could not have done anything long term with the WWF in 1990, even if he had gotten by Douglas, he had to fight Evander Holyfield in June (where he would have lost anyways), and if he had gotten by that a fall fight with sparring partner Greg Page. So the guest ref spot was just a way for the WWF and Mike Tyson to make money together for a short term.

> Once Tyson got KO’d by Douglas (and whined about it afterwards) and had his eye all swollen, there was no reason to have him be on, so the WWF got the guy who won and was the new champion in Buster Douglas instead.

> Also the WWF was lucky to get him in 1998, if he had gotten KO’d in the 1997 rematch with Holyfield (Which looked likely) instead of biting his ear and getting DQ’d, his value would have been worthless, getting beat bad 2 fights in a row. But because of the controversy, it made him still a value for the WWF Attitude Era.

Right. As I said, we would get into that shortly, but this is a good summation. It just wasn’t gonna work.
