WWF Superstars of Wrestling – November 12th, 1988

November 12, 1988

From the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, MD

Your hosts are Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Vince McMahon

This week, we will see the featured bout between the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers and the Rockers. Plus, Akeem and Hacksaw Jim Duggan in action and more!

The copy I had cut out a few squash matches so this is not a full show.

Fabulous Rougeau Brothers w/ Jimmy Hart vs. The Rockers

Shawn works over Jacques to start. He tags Marty and they hit a double dropkick. Marty gets a victory roll as the crowd goes nuts as the Hart Foundation are watching from ringside. Raymond pulls the ropes down on Shawn as the Rougeaus finally take control. The Rougeaus play mind games and distract the ref as Marty runs in for the save. The ref orders Marty back as Jimmy tosses his megaphone to Jacques but Neidhart runs in for the save and the ref rings the bell as this is ruled a double DQ (3:03).

Thoughts: The crowd was red-hot for this match and the finish. The Rockers looked great here as this amped up the Rougeaus vs. Hart Foundation feud.

Brother Love Show with guest Jake Roberts. Jake puts over his Survivor Series team (Jim Duggan, Brian Blair, Ken Patera, and Tito Santana) as they head out on the set. Duggan leads the crowd into a “USA” chant after he called out Dino Bravo. Jake then said we all have fears, like fears of snakes and fear of hard work as he stared down Brother Love. Jake, as usual, was excellent on the mic.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. Once again, we see the clip from “Saturday Night’s Main Event” where Jake scares Andre with his snake. After that, we hear from Andre as he promises to destroy Jake the Snake Roberts.

Akeem w/ Slick vs. Tommy Causey

Akeem beats down Causey then stars slapping his own ass. He then hits a press slam and taunts the crowd while Vince hypes up the Survivor Series. Akeem now hits a front suplex before hitting a splash for the win (1:55).

Thoughts: The Akeem gimmick is still in its infancy but the main focus here was on hyping Survivor Series.

Sean Mooney is in the Event Center to hype the December 3rd show at the Boston Garden. We hear from Ron Bass as he runs down Brutus Beefcake to hype their match on the show. The Red Rooster thanks Bobby Heenan for his guidance and promises to “pluck the feathers” of Koko B. Ware. This gimmick was utter garbage.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Bob Blackburn

We get an insert promo from Frenchy Martin and Dino Bravo, who promises to fix Duggan once and for all. Frenchy & Bravo now appear at ringside with Frenchy waving the Quebec flag. The crowd starts up with a “USA” chant then Duggan catches Blackburn with a clothesline. Duggan then hits a knee drop and hits a slam before putting Blackburn away with the Three Point Stance (2:20).

Thoughts: They focused on the Bravo/Duggan feud as the crowds loved chanting “USA” to piss off Frenchy and Dino.

Final Thoughts: Once again, a lot of the focus was on the Survivor Series hype. The problem with that is there are no longer any hot feuds going on to get you excited. The amped up Hogan/Bossman but its still not all that over and there is not much excitement between the other matches either. This company needs strong feuds at the top of the card right now.
