Throughout the 80s and early 90s, the WWF would often start feuds on tv strictly for the the travel circuit instead of CC/PPV. Are there any matches you wish were on PPV instead of the circuit?
Roddy Piper vs. Jimmy Snuka has to be a prime candidate
They probably could have stretched it out to WM2 if Snuka wasn’t such a flake. The various combinations of Piper/Orton/Snuka/Tonga Kid were just burning up the houses.
Piper vs. Hogan one-on-one (there WCW feud doesn’t count)
It was the main event of the Wrestling Classic, the first ever PPV. On the Network and everything. As for a big show like WM, maybe, but neither guy was gonna lie down for the other so I don’t know how effective it would have been.
Tito Santana vs. Rick Martel
It was on SNME, but yeah, it really could have used a bigger blowoff like Summerslam 89.
Jake Roberts vs. Warrior
This was supposed to be the match that headlined This Tuesday in Texas before Warrior left abruptly and Savage had to get called into duty.
Undertaker vs. Warrior
Gah, no, those matches were atrocious.
Hogan vs. Paul Orndorff
Perhaps, but in a very real way I think this match drew far more money without PPV than a match on PPV would have. You really did have the feeling here of wanting to go to the local show to see Hogan get his revenge. Plus you couldn’t do a real finish at the point when it would have been on PPV, so it would be something like the countout finish of the Hogan-Quake match anyway.
Big Bossman vs. Ted Dibiase
This was the definition of a house show B main event.
Hercules vs. Ted Dibiase
Only if PPV means "We pay you to watch this."
