Dr. D question

> Watching a whatculture youtube video about incidents with wrestlers and reporters, naturally led me to the YouTube vid of Dave Schultz slapping the tar out of John Stossel. Rumors are Vince went to Schultz to "make an example" out of Stossel. That was right before the inaugural WrestleMania. What was the whole story there? Was Schultz legit crazy? Did he lose out on a big Mania match?

Well, Stossell was out to get blood on the WWF, so it’s definitely plausible that Vince wanted D to take care of it. However, common belief is that Schultz is in fact a bag of mixed nuts and just took it way too far. He was "suspended" with the understanding that he’d be brought back when the heat died down to maintain plausible deniability, but trying to attack Mr T was the real inciting thing in his firing. After that, there was no coming back.

And although he didn’t miss out on a Mania match (he was suspended in New York anyway) he did miss out on making a shitload of money around the horn with Hogan. That would have been the money over the summer.
