Sting’s Title Run in ’92

Was there no faith in Sting being at the top? He didn’t defend the title on PPV until the Great American Bash in July against Vader, and he then drops it to him. There were no Clash defenses in the meantime and Sting was in a lot of tag matches during the interim. He also had a non-title match with Foley at Beach Blast, which was an awesome match, but again not for the title. I know he had house show defenses with guys like Rude and Vader, but why no visibility as a fighting champion on major televised shows? What was the general feeling of the powers that be on Sting as champ?

He was not the guy, he was the guy who had it while they found a better guy. The whole 1990 bomb was still hanging over his head, unfortunately. Really it wasn’t until 97 that they finally thought he could be the top draw.
